We cut a free agent?

He's an unrestricted free agent with an expiring contract. The Dolphins have just made a decision they don't want him re-signed.

Yup. signed a 2 yr deal in 2011. Played out his contract. I would not be surprised if Ireland signs him as depth.

A personal favourite of mine , hoped he would be back at with a good contract for all.

Never been as high on him as everyone else. Good depth as long as he is cheap

That's what I think as well. Given Odrick's size, he would be much more suited to slide over to DT, which makes re-signing McDaniel unnecessary.

Yup were definitely drafting at least 1 DT. Maybe 2 in this deep DT draft. Guys not being re-signed. Soliai/Starks on 1 year deals.

He was good 2 years ago, invisible and hurt last year.

In October I was pounding the table that we move McDaniel to a playoff contender who was soft on the Dline (see Colts, for example) for ANYTHING.

I mean, a 7th in 2016 even.

Instead McD barely plays for us, and then leaves.

I feel the same way about Soliai and Bess this year. Extend them mid-year or trade them for whatever you can get.

I doubt anyone else feels the same, but simply bleeding assets with zero return on them is like a bucket with holes in the bottom. It's harder to ever fill it to the top.

I would not want to move Bess right now (because I think that would alert teams that we would be interested in Austin). But, at some point I would move him. Maybe even during the draft? (After round 1 - trade him for a 5th-6th?).

In his fourth season with the Miami Dolphins, back-up defensive tackle Tony McDaniel had a down year to say the least. The seven-year veteran appeared in 11 games after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on a bum knee during the offseason – not good for a defensive lineman.

McDaniel was sent to Miami in 2009 from Jacksonville in exchange for a seventh round draft pick. Miami seemingly has received the “better end” of that deal, gaining a serviceable back-up for their already stout defensive line. But, nonetheless, health is beginning to become an issue for the seven year pro.

McDaniel has never been a starting caliber defensive lineman – which explains why Miami was able to get him for next to nothing. The big behemoth is barely even a space eater anymore – looking sluggish and tired all the while.

The former Tennessee Volunteer mustered 11 total tackles (6 solo), 0.5 sacks and 1 pass defensed in 11 games. Although only seeing time to spell starting defensive tackle Randy Starks, McDaniel’s season is a complete disappointment.

Plus this is another player who has had legal problems in regards to his girlfriend.Public outbursts and arguiing.It lloks like he is more trouble than he is worth.

McDaniel, 25, was arrested Saturday morning after he and his girlfriend, Alaina Smith, allegedly argued both inside and outside their Davie home after he returned from a night of partying. McDaniel reportedly grabbed her purse and pushed her to the ground, where she hit her head on the pavement.

Understand the point , but he may add to losses that get a compensatory pick ... although with all the signings , that may not happen next year.
