The Dolphins worked out free agent OG Danny Watkins on Monday.
The Dolphins need guard help. There's been speculation -- fueled by Eagles GM Howie Roseman's recent comments -- that Watkins lacks passion to play football. He's apparently still interested in collecting paychecks, if he's willing to work out for teams. Watkins went unclaimed on waivers Sunday. Sep 2 - 6:13 PM

Born and raised in British Columbia, it was not until the age of 22 that Danny Watkins gave up his stick and his skates for a helmet and shoulder pads. While attending Butte College in Oroville, CA, Watkins first stepped onto a football field as a way to earn a scholarship and quickly established himself as one of the best junior college lineman in the nation, garnering All-America accolades as a sophomore. A first-round selection of the Birds in 2011, Watkins battled injuries in the latter half of the 2012 season after breaking into the Eagles offensive line with 12 starts in his rookie campaign.

Please, no.

"A man's suffering is similar to the behavior of gas. If a certain quantity of gas is pumped into an empty chamber, it will fill the chamber completely and evenly, no matter how big the chamber. Thus, suffering completely fills the human soul and conscious mind, no matter whether the suffering great or little. Therefore, the "size" of human suffering is absolutely relative." - Viktor Frankl

I'm speaking of his lack of playing ability on the field. I have seen him enough in Philly to know I don't want him in Miami.

I think with his love for firefighting he might be a better fit with the Heat...

John Jerry could barely make it to the first quarter last Thursday, he's not ready to start so we need somebody to start there.

That's an ugly quote, though. There's nothing worse you can say about a player.

What was said about him?

I remember some of the gurus here really liked him before the 2010 draft. Alen was very vocal in his praise of Watkins as I recall.

I don't think he'd be a bad project at all, regardless of Grossman's unprofessionalism

Roseman seems like a real ass hole. Cannot imagine Ireland opening his pie hole and diss a cut player like that.

No, he just calls their mothers prostitutes.

But in all seriousness, what did Roseman say that was so bad? The only thing I could find was

“You felt like you were getting an enforcer, and he never let himself go here on that, and I don’t know why that was,” Roseman said, via Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly.com. “I told him that was what I was the most confused by. Because that was something that everyone at Baylor told you about and you saw on his play on the field, and I think it all goes back to the pressure he put on himself here. He put a lot of pressure on himself, and he couldn’t just go out and play, and I think getting away from being Danny Watkins the first-round pick and just being Danny Watkins will really help him.”

He might just be a great project for us. And if he's not, so be it...

Watkins played tackle at Baylor and Guard for the Eagles, and the Eagles did not give him much of a chance to play tackle for them even when Peters went down and they sorely needed a tackle.

I don't know if this says more about the Eagles or Watkins, but take it FWIW

Read the part bolded....

I think Watkins was worth a look but if we dont offer a contract I can understand why. I havent seen much from him yet to indicate hes a starter at the NFL level

Eh, great athlete, things went to crap in Philly so he may have been caught up in that situation.

Didn't they have Howard Mudd maybe 1 yr? Then Reid sort of lost the handle on the Eagles as a whole.

i've changed the title to acknowledge that Watkins might not have had his tryout yet. It might be scheduled for tomorrow.

He's coming aboard.

@JasonLaCanfora: Former Eagles 1st rnd pick Danny Watkins will sign w/MIA. Guard visited Fins, was getting interest from other teams after clearing waivers

Watkins did have a tryout with the Dolphins, but Panos said he hadn't yet heard back from Miami.

If he is signed, who is likely to be cut?

Not a bad signing (If this is the indeed the case). Hopefully a change of scenery and a new coach will do him good.

We have lots of extra DBs.

We had to do something at right guard. I'm happy to see the level of desperation that this shows. Much better than not realizing the seriousness of the problem.

I have a feeling Yeatman will be cut here... fml... although it should be Don Jones. BTW, until I see a 2nd source on him signing, I will call this unofficial. Jason La Canfloral is well known for sucking.
