In my eternal frustration with Madden, I've started digging through some of my older games and found some gems. And by gems, I mean "games only I seem to have heard of or liked." So now I'm curious, what games do you guys like that seem to be pretty obscure? (Hey, if we can have a favorite console thread...)

Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner. One of the best action games I've ever played, but it seems the only people who've played it, let alone want a sequel, are video game writers. Thankfully, they annoy Hideo Kojima often enough that he's considering making a third game.

Dragon Quest anything. I understand why the series is obscure; the only games we got here were all released on the NES under another name. But you'd think by now the name would mean something, even in light of Final Fantasy's juggernaut success. Maybe moving the series to the DS will help; a port of the PSOne remake of DQ4 is coming out next month, Dragon Quest 9 is due this year, and the remakes of 5 and 6 are coming out next year.

Phoenix Wright. The source of my avatar. One trilogy, one sequel (Apollo Justice), and one spinoff game featuring the primary antagonist of the trilogy, decent sales... but I almost always get a blank look whenever I mention it.

Wild ARMs series. Over a decade old, now reduced to selling ~35k with each iteration. A total shame, as it's actually unique and worth a glance. They even remade the first game on the PS2.

That's enough for now, I suppose.

Legend of Gaia on SNES is a great RPG. I love all Virtua Tennis/Sega Tennis games... Frontlines has become a "new" favorite of mine. Jetmoto on PSX was amazing too. I also enjoyed Glover on N64 and, well, just about anything on SNES. Too many good games to name on that one.

Oh, I almost forgot. I LOVED Maniac Mansion on the NES. Still play it on vnes.com

Illusion of Gaia is awesome, but even more obscure than IoG is the fact that it's the middle entry in a trilogy. Check out Soul Blazer, its prequel, and Terranigma, its sequel.

I really like the Kessen games though not sure how obscure they are. Romance of the VII kingdoms is more obscure I bet.

    Seriously? You're a rarity, then.

If you have a DS, check Phoenix Wright out. (And if you don't have a DS, why the heck not?)

I know the Ace Combat series wasn't exactly an oft-talked about game. A few of my friends never even heard of it until the 360 version came out. I just love flying so that made it a must have. Good storylines/narratives and well rounded gameplay got me coming back for more.

Here are some Panasonic 3DO games I consider incredible...

If you guys can find the emula....err console or whatever:wink2:

Killing Time (this game is scary and awesome before scary and awesome was....scary and awesome:lol:)

Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels (I know that the PS1 had it but it didnt feel right ...the controls were off compared to the 3DO version and even the graphics looked slightly washed out compared to the 3DO version... an awesome squad based, Space Marines fighting Aliens FPS...better than most squad based games even today IMO)

From 1998, it is the only squad based tactical RTS I have yet to come across. It was a different path from the type of games that had been made previously from Police Quest, and it is unfortunate they never made any sequels.

It was very intense and skill-based when playing multi player due to it not relying on who can pump out the most units like most other RTS. It is still one of my most memorable multi player experiences ever.

    I love Ace Combat.

I got the special edition on 360 with the Hori flightsticks. It makes the game even better.

Same here and I got my copy early by about a week thanks to the store clerk, though I liked the PS2 ones for the earlier editions better. This one just didn't feel right but still better than the regular controller.

Steel Battalion (xbox) is one of my favorite obscure games, though I have never played it.

Okami (wii & ps2) isn't completely obscure, but it is awesome and not many have played it. At least not as many as should have. Same with Shadow of Colossus.

Psychic Force 2012 on the Dreamcast and Slave Zero on the Dreamcast are probably my two favorites but the Dreamcast has all kinds of good unheard of games.
