Young QB? Give me a break. Going to be exciting watching Andrew Luck/Matt Barkley do all the things our current terrible QB cannot.

Not to mention a senior at Michigan. This guy is what he is, not a good a QB, and that isn't going to change. He's reached his ceiling, which is a good backup QB.

I could give 2 ****s about the past.

Pennington had a good year for us - fact
Henne is absolutely awful on 3rd downs, redzone, and in the 4th quarter this year - fact
Henne has been unable to lead this team to very many points since he's been a starter - fact

lol. Sorry, Marvin. I keep forgetting this game is eerily similar to tennis, golf, ping pong, bowling, hacky sack, and jacks.

I don't know why I confuse it with team games. :dunno:

Someone should pass the word along to teams like the Steelers, Jets, and Ravens. Those teams show up week after week when they apparently could be taking games off. Silly players! Busting their butts for no reason when only the QB matters. That's a lot of injuries that could be prevented if you think about it.

Big Ben can have an 80.1 QBR with 17 TDs & 15 INTs for a season and Pitt wins a SB.
I wonder if our irrational fans believe that Pitt fans whined about him holding them back or being the reason they had a losing season? Well, they probably wouldn't be complaining b/c they still won a SB.

Ben could have a 98 QBR with 17 TDs & 9 INTs...... but then go 9/21, 123 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT, 22.6 QBR and Pitt STILL can win a SB.
Somehow in these 2 examples, the success is all b/c of the QB. lol.

Honestly, could you imagine a Steeler fan whining amongst a group of Steeler fans in the way Miami fans are scapegoating Henne despite the team severely under performing? How long would it take for the first slap to occur? hahaha.

Man, we won 2 Super Bowls AS A TEAM in the 70's. Then Marino comes along and completely destroys fans' perception of how games are typically won. But hey, since he won us multiple Super Bowls, I can understand how this skewed perception could evolve.

That must mean you believe Matt Ryan is a bust.

Sorry, but you can't compare Big Ben to Henne. Ben may have had down seasons, but he always makes the big plays or big time throws when it matters, something Henne hasn't done. Hence why Ben has a career winning record and Henne doesn't. What good was Hennes good first half and trash 2nd half last week? Big L....

-He'll be 5 times the QB Henne is I'm sure. As for that other comment, lol. This team finishes no better than 5 wins and that's a guarantee. We're awful. From the QB, to the O-line, to the coaching, to the GM, to the pass and run defense. There is no chance we're finishing with any worse than a top 5 draft pick.

Must feel good to throw the entire rest of the team under the bus to protect Henne, amirite? Are you related to him, or his agent or something?

Fact is, almost every single Super Bowl champion team has had close games where the Quarterback has to go out and win the game. This is NFL football. In your little world, defense, special teams, everyone needs to have a good game every game so Henne never has to go out there and put together a game winning drive. Laughable position, but hey, you might be close to Henne or something. I get it.

Everyone else must pick up their game so Henne never has to put together a game winning drive. If we are ever playing a tough team and the game is close, and Henne has to put together a game winning drive, we lose the game. Then go onto forums and throw the defense under the bus for not playing better in the 2nd quarter. Good plan, Toddphins. Good plan.

You don't lose with a bonafide franchise QB. No matter what the rest of the team does. Ask the Colts. And the Patriots of the past few years. I know what can hold a good team back though, a Chad Henne. So if you want to root for mediocrity, be my guest. Too much of a fan of the Dolphins to do that myself personally.

sure I can. His team made it to a SB while he posted an 80 QBR with 17 TDs & 15 INTs.

Once Carey went out, Henne was pressured, sacked, and knocked around all 2nd half. You know what the Steelers would do to Cleveland if that happened to Ben? They'd let their defense preserve a 4th qtr win.

The ironic thing about fans complaining about losing to Cleveland b/c "Henne couldn't win in on the final drive" is that Ben beat Cleveland twice in 2008.
1st time: 10-6 score. 179 yards passing, 1 TD. Defense closed out the game.
2nd time: 31-0 score. 110 yards passing, 0 TD, 1 INT, 58.6 QBR. 31 points & a shutout in a game where Ben did nothing.

    Ben's 80.1 QBR 2008 SB season
    redzone: 11 TDs, 48 attempts (22.9%). (2010 Henne: 10 TD, 46 attempts, 21.7%)
    3rd down: 73 QBR, 5 TD, 6 INT.
    4th qtr: 74.7 QBR, 4 TD, 4 INT.
    4th qtr +/-7: 77.4 QBR, 4 TD, 4 INT.
Last 2 minute half: 60.3 QBR, 3 TD, 5 INT.

    2008 Ben failed comebacks
*down 10-6 in 4th qtr vs Philly. Had 4 4th qtr drives to win it but lost 15-6.
*down 21-14 vs Giants and had 2 drives to win it....... threw at INT on 4th down to end it.
*down 24-20 4th vs Indy with 3 minutes, threw INT on 4th down to end it.
*had 15 minutes to come back from 24-14 vs Tenn. Threw INT TD to end it.

    2008 Ben comebacks
    26-21 comeback vs Jax.
11-10 comeback FG drive vs SD.
    13-9 comeback vs Balt
(2 of those look like baseball scores)

That's not a special season. It's not much different than 2010 Henne.

Fans complain that we suck b/c Henne cant beat Cleve & Houston at the end......... but Pitt won 9 games w/o having to come from behind despite Ben posting a season long 80.1 QBR.

In one of those wins Pitt scored 23 pts despite Ben's 15.1 QBR and 50 passing yards.

The point is, Pitt's a great team and can go 12-4 even when their QB has a mediocre year.... yet our delusional fans think you can't win unless you have elite QB play on a weekly basis for 60 minutes each game.

So you agree that Henne is playing better than the rest of the team during the meat and potatoes part of the games up until it's put on his shoulders in the 4th to win it?

I dont think that's true at all. I just think our fans are smart enough to know that the best chance to win, not only week in and week out, but year in and year out is great QB play. Or an elite QB. We aren't going to have a great chance with a below average QB, which is what we have now.

Do you mean like the Steelers and the Packers?

The 2 Super Bowl teams that Henne beat in 4th quarter come from behind fashion in back to back weeks?

In my world, when a QB plays at a solid 100+ QBR level for 3 weeks in a row, his team should be playing well enough around him so he's not forced into 4th qtr comebacks on a weekly basis. It's damned if you do, damned if you don't. Forcing a QB to keep up a 110 QBR for a full 60 minutes in 3 straight games <b/c you're team sucks around you> is not an easy task for any QB..... even 12th year Brady.

Henne could have 2 come from behind wins later in the season to balance it out at 2-2, which is pretty good for any QB, but fans would still blame him for not beating Houston & Cleveland even though having 4 4th qtr comeback wins in 4 tries is next to impossible. We still have 13 games to go. If they keep playing like this, it won't matter how well the QB plays during the bulk of each game, b/c no team is making the playoffs by coming from behind in the 4th qtr of 16 games.

Do you think we would've had ANY chance to be in come from behind situations in the first place if Henne posted a legitimate 70 QBR during the bulk portion of any of our first 3 games? I seriously doubt it. The reason we had a chance to win games in the 4th qtr is b/c of how Chad played up until that time.

:sidelol: You just summed it up right here. Listen to yourself. You're basically saying it's ok to suck b/c your QB should be able to bail you out week after week. That's ridiculous.
Again. See Pitt and GB above.

Henne's been in 13 come from behind games and won 6. He sent 1 to OT.... and missed sending 1 to OT thanks to a missed FG.
What you seem to not understand is--- your team still needs to play well in those games rather than consistent sloppiness in too many facets.

The defense held the Texans to 23 points, while the Saints defense gave up 30+ to the Texans.

Browns only put up 17 (i think it was?)

Secondary has issues, but the defense is not giving up a ton of points. It's the offense who can't score.

So you're saying our team outside of QB gets a free pass and doesn't need to play well this year b/c there's some "bonafide" franchise QB out there who's currently playing college football and likely won't be at the level of winning games on his own in the NFL for another 5 or 6 years after that? I say "on his own" because many people seem to be talking as though this team's sloppy play doesn't matter b/c as soon as we get an elite QB he'll make up for all of it.

Man, that's a long time to wait. Wouldn't it be easier to get this current team to start playing well as a team?
Get this defense playing like the top 6 defense it's capable of?
Improve the redzone offense by developing Daniel Thomas behind Long & Pouncey?
Get the Oline settled in so that any Miami QB would have better time to throw?
Let Henne & Co continue to develop rapport in the new offense?
And that guy we pay to do nothing but kick the ball? how about if he makes a few?

I'm not opposed to improving any position on the team, but until that happens, how about we win some games with the talented bunch we already have? (and that's assuming it does)

Eventually this team will need to be held to a higher standard b/c no HOF QB will win a SB with this roster the way we're playing. I'd rather hold them accountable now than wait a few years while scapegoating the QB in the meantime.

Yup, you're totally right!!!... because the rest of this team is clearly playing at a high level.

A line that can't block, receivers that can't pull down TD passes, a ground game that cant hold onto the ball & scares no one in the redzone, and a defense that's 2nd to last in turnovers, has trouble getting after the QB, allows 104 Passer Rating, and cant preserve a lead is what EVERY team aspires to be..... and so is a FG kicker who misses 3 critical FGs in 2 games (thank God he plays another position :shifty: )........

Ok. I just called Tom Brady..... and Giselle said that he wished his team played much better so he wouldn't have lost his last 2 playoff games against teams whose QBs were greatly inferior.

Do you think the Jets rooted for mediocrity with Sanchez at QB the past 2 years. They didn't use that as an excuse to expect failure. I didn't see them throwing in the towel and calling it quits, and Henne is playing better now than Sanchez ever did.

You're acting like a person with ADD saying they'll never accomplish anything in life b/c they have a slight disability. :tongue2:

 Not every game is on the line in the 4th qtr in the way you're referring, so it's impossible to call that part the "meat and potatoes".

The M&P, as I like to call it, would be the bulk of the game that leads to the part of the 4th quarter where the game is on the line.

If the M&P is solid enough, then there shouldn't be many games "on the line" in the first place, hence why it's called the meat and taters. If your meat and taters are good enough, then you can order you some desert, take a knee, and enjoy the last few minutes of it rather than worrying about rushing off to take a ****.

Naps, If we're a desperate 1-15 team starting from scratch, then I'd agree completely that our best chance to win would be hinging future seasons on an elite QB.

I don't think Henne will be the elite kind of QB capable of consistently carrying a team, but IMO I don't think we're the kind of talentless team that needs carrying.
We already have a talented roster. We have a potential top 5 defense with its current core, and we have a team that might've easily beaten Houston & Cleveland if we could run in the redzone and limited the sloppiness. Heck, we might've given NE a close run if that's the case. So IMO, our best chance of winning lay more with this current group of talented guys than with an elite QB who's not on the roster.

I wouldn't object to us landing an elite QB, but the last thing I'm doing is making this current team feel like they're not good enough to win on their own until they land the next Marino. And IMO that's the message Miami fans have been sending since Dan retired. I'd prefer to hold this entire team to a high standard rather than scapegoating the QB b/c, if an entire fan base conveyed this, our team would be more inclined to hold itself to a higher standard b/c they'd know anything less wouldn't be accepted. Look at our off season, especially media related; most of it (outside of coaching) was about "Henne this and Henne that" despite our 2010 losing season being a team failure. Who was the one subsequently putting in the most effort? It was the guy playing the position being held to the highest standard (Henne). Maybe if we could hold this team to the same standard we hold the QB, then the entire team will put in Henne's type of effort in the offseason, film room, etc...... b/c if there's one thing you can say about Henne it's "the guy busts his arse".

And IMO Henne's been playing above average up until our sloppy team has put the game on his shoulders in the 4th quarter 3 weeks in a row.
Not every game will end in needing last minute heroics.... so hopefully we'll win some of these games where Henne is initially playing well in. He'll also have a few more chances to win in come from behind fashion, so, if he succeeds, that should make up for these first 2 he couldn't pull off. Then there should also be a game or two where he doesn't play well during the bulk of the game but the rest of the team picks him up like Pitt does occasionally for Ben. If we can play like that, Henne can post a 90+ QBR while helping lead us to the playoffs IMO.

I watched almost all their games that year. He would have a crappy game because his Oline was so porous you could drive a truck through it. Yet when it came time to make One or Two plays to win the game, he'd do it. Anybody who watched ESPN that year would have seen the same.

Yes Ben wasn't spectacular that year. His defense kept them in it. But when they needed one drive, he'd get it. Here is Pro Football Reference's tally of his 4th quarter comeback or game winning drives (check their site for definitions).

    http://www.pro-football-reference.com/play-index/comeback.cgi?player=RoetBe00
So far he's at 27. IN 2008 he had 6 game winning or comeback wins. That is substantial. Chad Henne in his rookie season did pretty well. 3 4th quarter comebacks or game winning drives. 2010? 1.

Now, whether that was him, or his run game, is matter for more analysis. But pull his 2008 highlights. You will see plays made.

Not everyone plays well for 60 minutes. Ok. But the good QB's, turn it up when the heat is on. So far, Henne shrivels like a sun dried tomato when there is any bit of pressure. 48.7 4th quarter QBR. What is your reason for that.

I agree with some of this..... however, a defense allowing a come from behind win is no different than a QB not pulling out one. There are some coaches who might think it's even worse.

Our defense giving up 17 pts to the Browns without Hillis is worse than us scoring 16 on them IMO. But again, we missed a FG; they didn't. McCoy's TD is nothing more than stat padding if Carpenter makes it or Bush doesn't fumble on the 19.

23 points to Houston isn't bad, but we let them run on us to close out the game which IMO is bad.
(Houston also had 10 points from short field opportunities from Brees INTs.)

Hey, I'm just saying. In games against a high powered offense like Houston's where we hold them for most of the game, we need to both prevent a 5 minute drive with 8 minutes to play and capitalize on offensive opportunities like Brandon's missed TD, Carpenter's missed FGs, and Thomas's fumble. Henne might not have had an elite game, but he gave us some legitimate opportunities, and IMO those are the kinds of games where you need to make those plays throughout the game so that Houston is never allowed in that position to dictate the 4th quarter.

A good team should have 6-8 games a year where their wins aren't decided in the final minutes, no? This should've been one of those games. IMO, as a playoff caliber team, the games that should need late minute heroics should be games that we play well in but not well enough to have the lead, not games that we play like slop despite our QB playing well.

Ok I'm bored. Wifey sleeping, so I'm gonna go at it. So funny you say Ben's 2008 is similar to 2010's Henne. Only you could say something like that Todd!

Pit vs Bal. Week 4. Pittsburgh lost 3 of their RBs and were down to #4. Oh imagine if that happened to Henne the excuses that would start flying. In that game Pit leads 20-13 in the 4th Q. Baltimore ties it. Oh no Pitts defense folded oh boohoo (we heard that all year). Yes the same defense that allowed Pitts to win the super bowl apparently, gave up a late TD to Baltimore in the 4th Q. Sound familiar.
Ben Roethlisberger not crying about losing 3 RBs drives them to win the game. Winner.
    Jax in week 5
No crying. No excuses. Just get it done.

Ugly game. Penalties on 7 of nine drives. Any crying? Nope. Just playing. Notice a pattern here.

Against Dallas. Pit down 13-6 with 7:10 in the fourth quarter, with Dallas having the ball. Ben leads them down the field, throws a TD pass to tie it. Defense gets a pick 6 to win it.

    Against Balt. Again.
6th game was the super bowl. You obviously watched that so no need to go over it.

So yeah, look at stats, Henne and Roethlisberger had similar stats. Sure. Well except Henne threw more INTs than TDs. Sure. But similar. Until you see Ben performing in the 4th quarter while Henne shrank in every pressure situation. Well all except 1. Nobody had a worse oline than Pitt in 2008. They were atrocious. Ben was sacked 46 times and escaped many more than that. Chad 30 sacks. And I don't think anybody will argue Chad escaped many sacks last year

You go too far to try and argue Ben's season and Henne's season were essentially the same. Yeah, if you look at the stat line. When they need their QB to make one, two, three plays. Ben did it. At least 6 times that year. Henne did a few times. But not enough. And not that many.

How many playoffs has Henne played? Nevermind, how many games has Henne won. Is he below or above 500?

Here is a stat that will blow your mind. Don't pass out now.

    TD% - 2.9%
    INT% - 3.4%

    I'm sure it's someone else's fault.

Not with his production, or lack thereof, on 3rd downs and in the redzone.

You get a franchise QB before you even worry about building other parts of the team, period. We've been building a team around a ****ty QB for over a decade now. It hasn't worked, and it's not going to.

Sanchez converts on 3rd downs, scored TD's in the redzone, and makes plays in the 4th quarter. And has better stats than Henne. Not better at all. And that Patriots team is elite year in and year out, no matter what happened his last 2 playoff games. That's what happens when you decide to not care about putting a competent defense on the field and just try to outscore everyone. But still an elite team, and I'd take my Dolphins being elite any day of the week.

Where are you "getting" this supposed franchise QB from? Is there a mailing list I forgot to sign up for?

Why didn't we just do this 10 years ago if it's this easy? :shifty:
