Yahoo sports is reporting that regardless of the outcome of this weeks game, Tony Sparano will be fired at the end of the year. Reasons: 1. Stuck with bad QB to long (Henne) 2. Coaches knew at beginning of season Henne was not the answer and did nothing 3. there is no excitement on Sundays 4. Parcells never created or attempted to create a relationship with Steven Ross 5. Steven Ross paid a billion dollars for the Phins and everything that comes with them and he intends to roll out the orange carpet http://sports.yahoo.com/video/player/nfl/23664459#nfl/23663178 Thread title edited - Staff
Yahoo sports is not 'reporting' he will be fired They simply paraded out a fat man with the opinion that he will
You beat me to it. I watched the segment of the video that discusses the Dolphins, and the guy is offering his opinion. It’s complete and total speculation, and it’s not even informed speculation. It’s just some guy guessing. Wish there was a “no thanks” button.
Some of these points didn't make much sense like for instance one of the reasons Sprano is getting fired is because he stayed with Henne too long, they make it sound like he has started a 100 games here.
This is not based on information nor a source, this is just a media member speculating, guessing, giving an opinion of what they think could happen. That's not 'reporting'. To report something: This is not reporting something that happened or is a fact being relayed, so I'd say your title may be unintentionally misleading. If the speculation on Sparano being fired turns out to be true, it'll be a few years of sorting out a new system, new coaches, roster changes to suit new systems and coaches, learning curve etc etc etc. No Superbowl for years again. :P
Like the way the Ravens were set back by changing coaches.... We already have talent on the team, a good coach can start winning right away. Providing he can find a decent QB. Just like John Harbaugh in Baltimore who is headed to the playoffs for the third straight season. It's not going to take a few years to do this. We're not talking about MLB here, NFL is made for quick turnarounds.
Amen brother. That about sums it up. St. Louis Rams, change from Bulger to Bradford, now 1 win away from NFC West Championship, 1 season. AZ Cardinals, Warner retires, in comes Anderson. Go from NFC West Champs Superbowl appearance to bottom of the pile in perhaps the worst division in the NFL, 1 year. Vikings, go from playing in NFC Championship to bottom of the barrel, why ? QB injured, no backup to speak of, 1 year Miami Dolphins, 11-5 and play off berth to 7-9 and MAYBE 8-8 Starting QB injured and replaced by a putz, one season to drop off, another season to equal the drop off, 1 year I could go on and on and on but its all the same, change is quick and turn arounds almost always involve getting a good QB and quick drop almost always involves staying with a bad QB or losing your starter and not finding another one. As I have said, its not rocket science. Ross is a great businessman and will not dump anymore money in something or a putz QB that shows no sign of bringing him anything in return. Pure business 101, I like Tony but better people then Tony Sparano have been sent to the business boneyard due to ineffectiveness, thats life folks and tons more good people will be on the boneyard express in the future. Loyality went out decades ago when this became a billion dollar industry. End of Story.
Main reason the boneyard express will be pulling in town next week. Now, this is just my opinion like the reporter gave his opinion and its just that until something actually happens, opinion, thats all.
What I think is really funny is the willingness to just shed credibility in an effort to try to be the "first" to report, it is as bad as Canesport swearing Jon Gruden was going to coach the Hurricanes then acting as if they never said anything. As nearly as I can tell: Sparano stays for 1 more yr: -Mike Lombardi -Adam Schefter -Chris Mortenson Will not be staying: -Jason Cole -Tim Graham Neutral: -Mike Florio Will be fun to keep track of who said what and when, Scheftie has said Sparano will be fired, then recanted with a qualifier.
It's funny when people try to break stories that are later not true they never come back and talk about them. At all.
Stuck with bad QB too long? 1 and a half years of starting a young 2nd round QB prospect is "sticking with a bad QB too long"? Cole is a complete idiot. Don't even know how you can write such a stupid comment being a "professional sports journalist" Remember they were going to sit Henne and glass pennington got injured. Second comment "coaches knew Henne wasn't the answer and did nothing" I highly doubt they "knew" going into his 2nd season that he would not progress enough. Another garbage comment. "No excitement on Sundays" True but that is because they are losing. A better comment would be that Ross believes his team is not prepared well enough by this coaching staff. There's no excitement is not something I see Ross telling a journalist he's going to fire a coach for. Bush League writing. "Parcells never attempted to develop a relationship with Ross" What the hell does that have to do with his relationship with Sparano and Ireland? The journalists down here are just AWFUL! AWFUL
Cole has always been more plugged into the Dolphins organization than any of the local writers; even after he left to go national. Plus, I WANT to believe him.
True, but while we may or may not have blown a 2nd rounder on Henne, we definately blew one on Pat White.
Well, to me, that happens, he did make sense for us, the real problem with missing on White is that is/was the end of the WC 2.0 concept, the on thing that made the SparanoPhins unique simply died when White washed out. If the Dolphins offense was looked at as Run the Ball/Pass the ball/WC 2 out of 3 dried up.
Well if Sparano is fired, he need only look as far as Parcells, for the reason why. Ross is evaluating the composure of the team under Sparano's direction down this final stretch, and his limited experience is becoming all too apparent, as the team continues to fold late in games, with growing perplexity, and futility. Parcells left, but from my impression, only after it appeared (to him) his services were no longer being requested. From the news reports It appeared no one made much of an attempt to convince him otherwise, and specifically Sparano. Yet in his initial public statement upon Sparano's hiring, Parcells made known his intention, to provide Sparano any assistance or advise he could, and would be at Sparano's disposal. "IF", Sparano somehow felt his readiness to coach this team has been above simply hearing Parcells perspective, I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over his early removal..
English Bulldog. They are well known for this capability and was the deciding factory in me getting her. She said that Henne needs competition to improve, Ricky will be back next year, and they should have signed Solie & Wake by now.
It is speculation and though the actual reasons are not quality reasons - on the other hand, I can see Ross making that type of decision, unfortunately. He is about glitz and glamour, fluff and show, and that's not what wins Football games. I have a suspicion he will break the bank for Gruden or Cowher - and I suspect he'll want Gruden b/c of the offense - and I'd bet a lot of money that Gruden will never win a SB. Ever. Ross just has not impressed me as an owner. Anyone who puts emphasis outside of football itself on drawing fans in is a questionable owner. Here's an idea, instead of booing and chanting against Henne, whenever something goes wrong, fans need to direct every ounce of their boos and chants against Ross himself. It's the owner who fails, ultimately. Responsibility for the product on the field is going to be Ross. The problem with these owners is they have so little background in football. I was talking with my brother the other day (He's the president and CEO of a $100 million a year engineering and technology company) and he was noting that simply because an executive is successful in one business does not mean he will be successful in another business. There are times he has hired people out of another business and they have done poorly because they were not suited to the particular business. This is the same problem with owners like Dan Snyder and others. I'm not wanting to prejudge Ross, he's only been on the job a brief time; but I have doubts based on what he has done that Ross will do it the right way. If he gets a SB winner - he'll be a hero.
Agreed. If you are the Pats who have won 3 SB's and have a dominant team already you can take such a chance. It's not just that the pick didn't turn out; it was far too big a risk on a player whose size and skill set had never succeeded in the NFL.
Disagree simply because White was the tip of a evolving WildCat offense, White pans out and we have something unique and an edge on our opponents for the next 3 yrs, to me that is one of the great tragedies of the White Experiement, not only did it cost a high #2 draft pick, it also effectively killed the WC 2.0. They should have stuck with the concept even with White busting.
I'd prefer the to title say, knows Sparano will be fired. Reasons: Inability to manage games ie wasting time outs and awful challenges Poor selections in coaching staff, defense, offense, special teams Slow evaluation and decisive decision-making to improve game plans, team often starts slowly, disastrous games and weak adjustments Too much confusion on offense and awful game plans often ridiculed by former and current players Failure to adjust to personnel, namely Henne's ability to the offense
Int's by Henne had far more to do with any loss this season than "inability to manage timeouts" Nolan? Bonamego was Top 10 in 2009, try again. ] Really? 4th qtr by far is our least effective Qtr, "slow evaluation" is hookum as young players typically do have time to show what they have to offer, no one should be evaluated off of one game, add in they did bench Henne for Pennington, so once again, try again. If Henne was any good it shouldn't matter what the offensive system is.
All things still lead to Sparano being fired. There is no way in hell this fan base is going to support anything otherwise. Not the only reason though. Tony was BP's puppet. If Ross is still listening to Parcells I would be shocked at this point. I understand the stakes with my next statement but I wish BP would just be out of the whole mix at this point. What is the purpose of listening to a guy as a consultant who really has no interest in the future of this football team. Time for Ross to be his own guy and lure in Bill Cowher. Leave the defense alone with Nolan. Hire Josh McDaniels as the OC to groom the still young QB and yes Padre you are going to laugh if you read this but bring in Palmer. I think that would be the best scenario. A perfect world LOL.
KillahP? What happened to your sense of realism? How many of this so called "savior" coaches have worked out in Miami? 1 playoff win with 12 yrs of them, and you still won't learn? Secondly, Cowher shows up, Nolan leaves, McDaniel is going to KC. Add in Cowher is Sparano in any meaningful sense of the term, they do the same things on offense and defense, and yet. This is like watching a replay of the last 15 yrs, all in one late season mania..substitute "Jimmy Johnson" for "Bill Cowher"...the same Cowher who did not do jack without high draft picks, the same Cowher who coached in the same division as the craptacular Browns and Bengals for 4 games a season and yet..in 15 yrs he won 1 SB. And no Coach has ever won SB's with two different teams.
Agree with this really Cowher would bring in his own people but I was giving my favorite scenario. I just don't have any faith in Sparano as a HC anymore bro and you know damn well Ross wants a big name. I see the Cowher thing happening regardless of the past. It is a wait and see but Black Monday looms for Coach man. I have no crystal ball but it just seems that will be the case to me. I never believe much of the media speculation really just go off gut. I was in the building when Saban coached his last game and even though he was swearing he would stay you could just see he was already packing his bags. Different circumstance of course and I'm not always right about these things but considering the big picture it looks like a change will be made to me. We shall see.
Because Saban to Alabama had come out weeks beforehand.. As for Sparano, so far it is "as of right now he is staying" so we shall see, my own personal view is it could go either way no real decision has been made as of yet. Would not be at all surprised to see Sparano let go, and Ireland charged with finding his replacement that way Ross could have both, he keeps the Parcells structure, which has worked btw, and he makes a change at HC. For all of the whinning, *****ing, and pissing about Sparano, his 3 yr run is the best the Dolphins have had since the early 00's and it is not even close.
I agree with most KP, but no to Palmer. I just think that guy is done. He's never seemed the same guy (even with last year) after that playoff injury.
