He's better because he can play the slot. But he plays WAY too out of control. When he attacks he LOS head on, he takes poor angles and he stops his feet ahead of contact. Watch the long touchdown run from Joseph Randle - a player we're sleeping on - its horrific defending. I don't have my notes in front of me, but I've charted games and plays where he takes multiple steps time after time when playing play action. I think Elam and Thomas are better players. Personally.
Whose to say we don't jump up should Milliner get past the Lions? I know it's not an Irish move but he could easily break his own trends and trade up to get us an important player.
He has issues but they're not worse than Elam's. He has the same isse as Dashon Goldson, who everyone seems to love.
I'm just concerned that with how the new NFL is officiated CBs can't really touch WRs; and thus he will get killed with a bunch of PI and holding calls.
Hate to keep banging the drum but it depends what we do in free agency. I think the value of the draft is between about 30 and 75. I think there are high quality starters to be had there.
Elam's not even close to playing so out of control. When Elam attacks the LOS I know he's bringing the guy down. I don't see Goldson in Vaccaro. At all.
I didn't compare Vaccaro to Goldson physically. Just their flaws in pursuit. As for the Elam comment, it was in reference to his flaws in coverage, which are indeed worse than Vaccaro's angles.
Dammit, got them mixed up. But yeah, Whitner got abused on a ton of plays. There was one drive where nearly every single passing play was targeted against him.
Let me ask you then: What do you see with Elam in coverage? He has good, not great range -- fine. But don't you have the slightest bit of concern with the way he takes angles and how he is fundamentally? Have a look at him as a split-field safety and watch how he fails to get over the top of vertical routes because of the angles he takes. Look, I'm not absolutely drilling him here because I like him as a player but I think he has problems in coverage. Some of it will be coached out of him, some of it won't. I think it's easier to fix Vaccaro's issues than it is Elam's.
I can't really comment on that. I haven't seen them all. Just been way too busy with other stuff that has limited me to three or four dozen prospects. But I do think Vaccaro can be quality. He has the talent that's needed right now.
