From PFT: For the second straight week, Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard intercepted two passes in one game. This week, the league deemed the performance worthy of the AFC defensive player of the week award. A second-round pick of the Dolphins in 2016, Howard has become one of the best defensive backs in the NFL. He now has seven interceptions on the year, most in the league through 12 games.
So now the question is - how much do we pay him? You either pay the man or you have your eye on a CB in the draft/FA who is as good for cheaper - but you better be darn sure. With the history we have retaining talent I am, quite frankly, firmly on the side that says:
We could always ask Vontae Davis's grandma if he can come out and play again. I think it's an absolute no-brainer to pay Howard what he's worth and take that off our "needs list" for several years to come. If anything, he's playing better today than he was a month ago...I don't think he's even close to his ceiling yet.
Why produce top talent if you arent planning to keep it long term. It would be like the front office saying they hope they dont draft too well. Lock him up long term.
