World's Largest Bridge to Stretch Over 13 Miles Long

Construction on what would become the world's longest marine causeway, connecting Qatar and Bahrain, is due to begin next year, and what a project it is: We're talking about a bridge more than 13 miles long, costing around $3 billion...

The Lake Pontchartrain bridge goes close to 24 miles in length, so I'm not quite sure what makes this the world's largest.

And yea, it can suck if you get in an accident or breakdown on that thing.

Edit: I see why they say largest now. Impressive bridge, even if it weren't the largest.

It's a marvel of modern engineering, but the thought of an accident in the middle of the damn thing and being stuck there for hours is enough to make me hyperventilate.

Plus, they should have a modicum of forethought and run a train down the middle of it to give people a transportation option...and an avenue for rescue.
