"Poor finishing", code for bad luck? Is there a book out there that I can buy that explains "codes"? I'm sure that I can find it online at www. Usamenssoccer@excuse.com
Get used to even more women's world cup coverage in the future, the final drew more viewers than the mlb all star game, 2010 world series, daytona 500, nba playoffs, stanley cup final, and men's world cup games-which were on ABC. And the final number will be higher, usually right away they only have numbers for the big city markets. Didn't top the 1999 WWC final, but that was on ABC & US soil, and had mia hamm.
If you can't finish, you can't win. I learned that back in the mid 80's. You got to finish your chances and the US didn't. The ladies after the game even said that they didn't finish and gave Japan credit. Not one US player or coach made a excuse, they all gave Japan the credit.
Very true! Don't forget, the Japan player that was ejected, also would have been one of the 5 players in the PK stage.
I hope so. That was damn good TV (so was '99). Save for Brazil, I was impressed with the class at which the game was played overall. Very few dives in any of the matches I watched. The casual fan can't stand that. The US women's style is much more (American) fan friendly than the US men. Plus there were central figures/personalities for the viewing audience to invest in (Solo, Abby, perhaps the emerging Alex Morgan). The men had Landon Donovan and little more. And they unfortunately got bounced early again.
Indeed. But she got bounced at what, 117th minute? And it clearly didn't hurt them much when it counted! I was really disappointed in our PK's. Personally I prefer to put the big dogs up early. I'd have had Abby going first or second. The first three we sent didn't want any part of that moment.
I agree Muck, you have to put your big dogs first, otherwise it may not matter later. Just think, on the ejection, if the Japan player would have come in a half sec later, they would have been inside the box and it would have been a PK. Overall, the tournament was fun to watch. The women just went out and played a game. No gamesmanships, they just all smiled and enjoyed the moment. Even the referee in the final was laughing at times. Unlike the men, who cry all the time.
Yep here. I (in Iowa) had to tune into ESPN 3 (which I don't always get, depending on what computer I'm on....there's a local media provider that apparently doesn't anty up for it, and I get caught there a lot) to watch anything live up until the last two games (Was at work for France). I could have stayed up to midnight to watch the replay of Brazil, etc. but nothing going live as far as ESPN or ESPN2 were concerned. Hell, I had to watch the Men lose to Mexico on Telemundo awhile back.
Unless we got Ian Darke, that's where I watch them. And I don't speak Spanish. Just more exciting. And they don't mute the crowd. - sent from my EVO 3D -
Even when the ladies got back to the states today, not one of them made excuses. They all gave Japan credit.
I was impressed with the Swedish ref. She was very good with the players and didn't screw up either. Cleanly played game indeed. I think we went 18 minutes before the first foul was called. - sent from my EVO 3D -
You know, the coverage on ESPN was very well done. Bob Ley, IMO, did a great job. The ex-players and Tony also did a very good job. Ian and Judy, same, very well done. No crying about little ticky tack stuff, only made a quick comment on a couple of iffy things and then they let it go. No need to drag or cry about it like in the men's games.
yes.... am I the only one living in a small town with lots of "Foot" Massage establishments? You know, the ones that are open at odd hours of the night, with darkened out windows in the front and parking in the back... We have those here and also lots of Medical Marijuana vendors. Such a crazy world these days...
Disagree. Darke is awesome...but Julie Foudy is horrible. I mean..she can't tell time. How many times did she get the time wrong? and yes, I understand it is the US and there is some homerism..but there shouldn't be any homerism from the analyst in a national broadcast.
Well, you have your opinion and the rest of us have ours. Sorry your teams are having a rough go, but maybe you'll find happiness now that the Dolphins are about to start up. Take care!
So she gets confused adding and subtracting. She's a woman! She still knows what she's seeing on the field and did a pretty good job of relaying it. I give the production crew a bit of grief there because they didn't catch it or whisper in their earpieces the first time she did it (vs Brazil).
