What would make the most sense to me honestly would be retaining Randy Starks, moving Odrick inside anyway and having him rotate heavily with Starks and Soliai in the middle. Costs are already sunk in, you've got to do what's best for your football team and winning. Having both Odrick and Starks FRESH when they have to rush the interior on third down would be an excellent asset on this football team. Soliai saw his workload increase this year 40%. Starks saw his workload increase 22%. Odrick's workload increased 60% and he became damn near a 1000 snap player, which made no sense to me. He actually played more snaps than Cam Wake, which again doesn't make sense to me why he should have just as many snaps as the 250 pounder let alone actually more.

This is one of the reasons I think there were elements of a defensive line that got tired, crumbled in crucial moments, were worse in the 2nd half of the year than the 1st half, etc. Move Odrick inside and rotate them all more heavily and I think you avoid some of that.

I agree with this premise. I haven't really talked about it because I honestly have NO idea who that would be or what position or what players could even be available in trade, etc...but yes just like Section126 revealed that the Dolphins were looking at Jeremy Maclin and Nate Washington in trade, and we also know they were discussing trade with Green Bay about James Jones, I think they look at having extra 2nd and 3rd round picks and being able to use those as ammunition for a veteran.

I didn't mean "off the edge" as in speed rush around the tackle. I was more referring to playing end in general on passing downs. I agree about Ansah.

Yes I noticed that as well. Vernon was used a lot from an up position in a 3-4 with Koa Misi on the other side as a SAM.

Against San Diego State I swear he actually tried to slide tackle a back that caught a screen pass out of the backfield. Slide tackle! Unsuccessful, thank god because he'd have gotten a penalty for it. There's also a rep where I swear he made contact with the guard and then immediately tried to go into a monkey roll to take out his legs as well as the legs of anyone else on the OL. Again, lucky not penalized.

The other thing about Ansah is...we really don't know how old he is. He started BYU in 2008 but we don't necessarily know that he was 18 or 19 when he started. I think you've got to assume the Ziggy is 24 years old at the least and probably more like 25 or 26.

I PERSONALLY prefer Sheldon Richardon over Ansah...I think. Reserve the right to change my mind.

I'll go watch Sheldon. Phinsational has been popping a boner over him too.

Ansah is anywhere between 21 and 53.

The more I view Sheldon Richardson the more sure I am that like Fletcher Cox before him he will rise up the boards quickly. Fletcher Cox went #12 overall but in THIS draft I could see Sheldon Richardson going higher as I think there's a shortage of really, really good prospects in this Draft.

I'm starting to feel like I need to put him in company with Star Lotulelei, Manti Te'o, Bjoern Werner and Luke Joeckel.

Cordarrelle Patterson may even be the most likely given how focused the Dolphins seem to be right now on adding talent to the WR position (given all the flack they're receiving, including from Steve Ross' office).

The more I watch him the more it looks like with the ball in his hands Cordarrelle Patterson is Tavon Austin only 8 inches taller.

agree on all accounts. Doesn't seem like much sizzle at the top, to the point Fletcher Cox might've been a top 5 pick in this draft, no.

I wouldn't be apposed to Patterson if he's not a project in the route running department. I stopped watching him after the beginning of the year TBH so I don't know what strides in that department he has or hasn't made.

    My recommendation?

Get hold of as much tape of him as you can. Every game if you can. It literally only gets better with each game. He'll knock your socks off by the end. Now that I've watched a bunch more games that I'd not seen before, I'm sorry I ever doubted him.

It's like the guy taught himself how to play football on the playground, and yet it fricking WORKS. The natural talent on him is phenomenal. I mean it, the things I see Tavon Austin doing, Cordarrelle Patterson is doing at 6 or 7 inches taller and 30 lbs heavier. Very literally, all the cuts and quickness you see in Austin, the straight up speed, all of it...Patterson doing that to people in the SEC except 6 or 7 inches taller and 30 lbs heavier.

The negatives are pretty obvious. Not what I would call an overly physical player though I wouldn't necessarily call it a weakness. Loves to body catch but I can forgive that as both Golden Tate and Roddy White were body catchers, and there's an upside in their natural instinct for an ability to use their bodies to shield the football. Can be terrible with the ball in the air at times, or in technique on running the route and getting through the coverage. But what you get from him on the plus side in terms of pure talent, vision, cutting ability, speed, play making, that certain "it" factor you can't quantify yet bleeds into every aspect of a receiver's game not just his run after catch...what was the term Jim Harbugh used about Cam Newton? "Plutonium-grade raw material".

You know how much I love Stedman Bailey. I like Patterson more, now that I've seen about 5 more games of his. If he's the pick at #12 overall, I'll be pretty happy.

Wow! Just watched tape from 5 of Patterson's games this past season. Instantly, he jumps off the screen. Explosiveness, speed, agility, size. He is exactly the kind of playmaker at receiver that we lack. He can take the top of the defense but also run solid short and intermediate routes. They may not be perfect but he finds a way to get open. Would love to take him at #12, and that is the first time I've thought that while looking at a prospect that is realistically going to be there at 12. He does catch with his body a lot, but somehow he still manages to make tough catches in traffic.

Also seems to have good instincts. In one game the defense ran a corner blitz with the corner guarding him and he was left wide open, instead of just running his planned route he turned and slowly drifted downfield allowing an easy pass for the QB while building up some steam to run downfield. Seems simple, but it was a heady play.

One of those guys that has all the natural abilities you could ask for and will only get better with NFL-level coaching.

I think for a while he could be one of those frustrating players that tallies up like 130 yards on the day but some people will say he did more bad than good because he god jammed on a timing route and the ball got intercepted, or he dropped a pass that would've been a touchdown.

But those kinds of players are extremely high impact players hence the 130 yards to begin with. Dez Bryant type natural ability.

I didn't like that he doesn't seem to be as physical as you want. Keenan Allen and Stedman Bailey are intensely physical players that welcome contact and dish out more than they receive. Cordarrelle Patterson isn't like that, and even watching the games I've now watched, that hasn't changed.

But I believe I also said at the time that his open field cutting ability, speed, length and ability to make magic happen with the ball in his hands may make that not even matter. And that's exactly what I came to believe after watching a lot more of his games.

Who knows? He doesn't seem like the brightest light on the Christmas tree. He seems just keenly focused on getting to the end zone. Which he did, 10 times. He averaged 28 yards per kick return including a touchdown, 25 yards on 4 punt returns including a touchdown, 12.3 yards on 25 rushing plays including 3 touchdowns, and 16.9 yards on 46 catches including 5 touchdowns.

He touched the ball 100 times including an end-around pass to the tight end. He gained 1886 yards and had the 10 touchdowns.

You're buying Cordarrelle Patterson because he's electric, not necessarily because he caught 100 passes or something like that.

Interestingly enough they called that end-around pass at least one other time during the year. On the one he actually completed it for a 28 yard gain that got them down to the goal line. On the other he slowed up for the pass and then ran for like a 45 yard touchdown. Damnedest thing I ever saw. I could only think to myself, this is the only guy you'd see have an option pass called for him, slow up to look for his target, check off it, and run for a long touchdown instead.

I just saw that play last night when I was watching some film on him. I had never seen anything like that happen. The pass is taken away so he just says screw it and beats the whole defense himself. He also had a jet sweep that got bottled up and looked like he was trapped after trying to cut it up the B gap but he broke the tackle, reversed field and I think scored a 25+ yard TD. Can't remember what game that happened.

His playmaking is simply something we don't have.

Patterson and Steadman Bailey would be nice. Add a TE like Fauria, or maybe one with a little better blocking skills, and you've got a pretty nice passing attack.

Though I love Joseph Fauria dearly, if you're not ready to give up on Michael Egnew and you have high hopes for Charles Clay, with Anthony Fasano leaving you really ought to consider Levine Toilolo. I don't know how a man with that height can have that kind of pad level but it's freakish. He moves really well. He's just kind of raw and under-used in the passing game.

I feel like your puppet, now I'm on board with Patterson at 12.

There is a 9min highlight of him that was uploaded to YouTube just yesterday. Almost every play left me in awe.

I really hope Matthews develops. Or Patterson and the k-state wr in the draft could be nice. Almost replicating the duo of boldin and Smith in Baltimore. Smith is probably faster than Patterson but he first have the moves of a Patterson
