Probably because Hilliard wasn't good enough, which was my first point, which, hilariously you keep making for me. He clearly wasn't considered strong enough in pass protection.
The "transition" issue is overblown. In terms of run defense, if anything OLB is easier. Your average OLB is going to line up outside the TE most of the time. The only real issue is coverage, and people wildly overplay the amount of coverage an OLB plays. According to Pro Football Focus, Joey Porter had 1084 total snaps last year. 423 were run plays 567 were pass rushes 94 were coverage I'm no mathologist, but that's what? 8.6% of his snaps? Here's a quick survey of OLBs over 1000 snaps. Demarcus Ware- 10% Shaun Phillips- 16% James Harrison-22% Terrell Suggs- 11% Kamerion Wimbley- 16% Calvin Pace- 25% My diagnosis on why Wake isn't playing as much is has run defense, it's got nothing to do with coverage. That's more, not less relevant in a 4-3 I'd argue.
He is good enough to run between the tackles which is something Cobbs has never done. I know you don't like Lex Hilliard. I can't wait till he proves you wrong.
This has become a gayer version of my dad's bigger than your dad except that a) Cobbs runs between the tackles and b) I like Lex Hilliard, but am refraining to beatify him after 5 touches. Thus, my dad is clearly bigger, better, brighter, stronger and more wordly wise as he understands the needs of an NFL franchise such as the Miami Dolphins and the facets that make up a roster.

I love how JT takes the credit on the field after that 3rd sack by Wake...he completly lifted the tackle back into the qb and made the play with one hand...JT just did his dance.
Lex Hilliard is on the roster genius. Why? Because Sparano believes he is a good football player and is developing him. I'll go with his opinion of the player over your misguided lack of knowledge anytime.
Just glancing that over, those all seem like weak side 'backers. I'd be curious as to how many strong side 'backers drop.
It's worth noting that at this point, Lex Hilliard is clearly being used as a 3rd down back, which was Patrick Cobb's role. He's had more receptions than Ricky Williams the past two weeks, and he's been largely gotten he runs off of draw plays.
oh you better believe I see it and I'm not real happy about it. It is an example of why I am so disappointed with Dan Henning and his so-called genius. I believe we used Ricky up yesterday feeding him carries when they talked about counting them. Use Hilliard more to spell your starting back. That is the role Ricky had when Ronnie was starting. I couldn't believe my eyes when Ricky had twenty carries early in the third quarter when you have Hilliard on the sideline. Bad use of personell.
Go back and read post #73 in this thread since you are tooting your own horn about being right. I stated there that the Dolphins were using Hilliard like Cobbs and I thought it was dumb as hell. My argument was never about whether or not they would use him as a third down back because I saw that with my own eyes. Just another example of the ineptitude of our offense this season. They don't have a clue. It was smack you in the face evident that he should have been getting more carries in the middle part of that game to save Ricky for the 4th quarter. Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back thinking you were right. You missed the crux of the argument.
