That was me. At the tome it was a fair comparison. Iif the season had ended in week 13 it would have still been a fair comparison. It’s the last 3 weeks of the season that separated them as far as passer rating goes.

BTW I a still skeptical about Luck. He’s been boom or bust throughout his career. People like to focus on the games he wins by making big throws, but he still throws ugly interceptions too often and loses games.

If the season ended in week 13?

What about when Luck lead his team to an 33-15 record his 1st 3 years in the NFL. What about when Luck had a 40 TD season in 3rd year in the NFL and lead his team to the AFC championship. That didn't separate them in your opinion? It was a fair comparison until this year in week 13?

He went 33-15 in his first three years because the rest of the AFC South was epically bad in that period. Any team with an average QB and average defense would have been expected to go 5-1 in the division in those 3 years. He was a .500 qb outside of his division. Against non divisional opponents he had a worse record than Tannehill.

His first 3 years did not impress me much. I still am not that impressed by him because he still throws too many INTs. Yes he can win games by himself, but he also puts his teams in bad positions too often.

His 33-15 is due to inferior competition? Funny I wonder if you attributed the Dolphins 10-6 record in 2016 due to their inferior competition.

Ryan Tannehill went 1-3 vs the afc south in 2012 with the #7 defense and a better ranked run game than Luck so does that make him a below average QB?

Lets see 2012 Colts defense #21 (below average) Luck 4-2 vs AFC South--2012 Phins defense #7 (above average) Tannehill 1-3 vs AFC south
2012 Luck vs afc east 2-2--vs afc north 1-0--vs afc west 1-0--vs NFC north 3-1

2013 Luck vs afc east 0-1--vs afc north 0-1--vs afc south 6-0--vs afc west 3-1--vs NFC west 2-2

2014 Luck vs afc east 0-1--vs afc north 3-1--vs afc south 6-0--vs afc west 0-1--vs NFC east 2-2

    Total AFC east 2-3--AFC north 4-2--AFC west 4-2--NFC north 3-1--NFC west 2-2--NFC east 2-2

Hmm a .500 QB outside his own division?

As I suspected I see from your post history that you praised Tannehills 2016 season and bash Luck for his soft division. Saying his QB rating was inflated due to playing bad teams in his division. How hypocritical considering in 2016 Tannehill beat 1 team with a winning record and the rest were as follows.

    1-15 Browns 30th defense--7-9 Bills 16th defense--5-11 Jets 28th defense--5-11 Charger 29th defense--4-12 Rams 23rd defense--2-14 49ers--32nd defense--7-8-1 Cards 14th defense.

How do you continuously bring up Lucks weak division and than praise Tannehill's 2016 season? How do you not see the irony in that? At least be consistent and fair otherwise everyone can see the agenda.

If you look at the date of the thread referred to I posted it on the 9th of May 2016. i.e. before the 2016 season started.

My prediction for the 2016 season was here
    https://thephins.com/threads/your-prediction-for-tannehill-in-2016.89548/
I posted after the season concluded I thought it was clear Tannehill had not reached the heights he needed to be regarded as having a successful season.

    My position is that
    a) Luck is over-rated and has never produced in accordance with his hype.
    b) Tannehill is a flawed QB, but he can produce in the correct environment.

Both have teased that they have the ability to be a big time QB, but haven’t made the necessary steps to get there. Luck for throwing INTs and Tannehill for failing to produce in Chaos. Luck is closer to being a big time QB than Tannehill.

    Extremely unlikely.

It's possible he may have certain traits that are better, he may have more "promise" or may get fans more excited but I find it to be less than a 2% possibility the QB ends up performing better.

Barring some ridiculous turn of events of course.

This is an impossible question to answer. Revise this when we actually know who the quarterback is going to be, if we even have a new one.

When I see a “New Member” speak of the historical posts of the forum in general, I find it suspect. Makes me wonder “who” that person truly is.

With that being said, and I’m not apologizing for Tannehill, merely pointing out those stubborn things called facts...

Who called all of those WR bubble screens?

Who called empty backfield sets resulting in the only open receiver being the RB coming out of the backfield?

Point being, Tannehill took what he was given and when ever he tried to take more, he was sacked more that a bag of groceries. The offensive scheme and lack of poor protection, a perennial issue in Miami for years contributed to our lack of offensive results just as much as anyone.

Said it before and I’ll say it again...Tannehill is going to get another shot somewhere and there are going to be a lot of Dolphins fans having crow for dinner.

I'm not referring to the thread you posted, I'm referring to your overall post history. Just by 2 threads I've seen you use the Luck vs weak division argument multiple times. Yet while looking up your post history I have yet to find a post claiming Tannehills 2016 season was due to weak competition. So obviously if you did say such a thing you certainly don't bring it up as often as you bring up Lucks competition. But the truth is you probably made no mention of Tannehills weak completion in 2016 because that wouldn't fly with your narrative.

Not even sure how to go about answering this question. If we put a stop gap in place it's easy to think he won't be better, but who knows? Maybe we run with a healthy Faulk and he plays really well. I don't see our other backups suddenly becoming revelations. Same for Osweiler if he's retained.

Then again if we don't reinforce the interior OL and/or improve the coaching/performance there, it won't help whoever is under centre.

We brought in a new OL coach last year, Washburn I think it was. I was hopeful about that and other positional coaching changes. Sad that we didn't get to see any big improvements but maybe Gase's overall scheme didn't help, maybe it's too early days, and the injuries certainly didn't help. It'll be interesting to see what happens, but I think good overall coaching might be what we need most.

Lol, thanks. I wish I could say it was the worst beat I’ve ever taken, but it isn’t.

What’s clear however is I have a blind spot when betting the Eagles.

Literally 0-4 in games they play in. Can’t figure them out.

The same Andrew Luck that previously led the Colts to the playoffs and AFC Championship while Ryan has consistently led Miami to exactly nothing?

Andrew Luck is a stud. Ryan Tannehill is a dud. Miami is 6-10/7-9/8-8 team with Ryan or without Ryan. The Colts are a playoff team with Andrew Luck and 3-13 without him.

I was talking to a Cowboy fan that watches every game on NFL rewind and we were discussing how several years ago I compared the two statistically to maintain some level of hope with Ryan. He laughed at me and said it's because Andrew Luck always has the Colts playing competitive and while he has been prone to some boneheaded throws, it's often because they had to play catch up after their previously atrocious defense gave up points.. He said Ryan padded his stats in the many blowouts Miami was a part of during his tenure and often benefited from better skill position guys that would break open plays.. Good perspective IMO.

Easy to say that from the couch after the Ravens were in must win mode for 6 weeks and made the playoffs.. While Miami once again laid a goose egg. Lamar is probably not going to be a great QB but don't count the guy out.. The Ravens had a chance at the end which is more than we can say with Ryan.

To hell with Ryan Tannehill, I don’t care about being right in this 4 year debate....I care about getting a good starter on the roster of my fav team. Is that too much to ask after 21 years of poop?

Yeah Foles would be an upgrade, but I just don't see him as a long term solution no matter how much I like him. If we did pick him up we would have to upgrade the offensive line because he is more if a pocket passer and we haven't had much of a pocket these days.
