http://fifthdown.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/04/20/why-dolphins-gave-up-on-samson-satele/ Makes sense and it is a bit of repetition of what has been said here but is a good read overall.
Groves injury history scares me but I'm really looking forward to having a center who can dominate at the point of attack.
I never trusted the drafting of satele, i have a hard time trusting a lot of players that come from that system, bess not included. He never passed the eye test for me, his body was soft and not developed properly. The guy had fat in his biceps, theirs no excuse for that anymore. The training of ones own body has stepped up for me in terms of importance. If i see a guy thats sloppy i dont want him on my team, i dont care how good he can play football on certain plays, eventually that laziness, lack of mental fortitude, and lack of strength will catch up. To me, not training the body as a professional athlete should, making millions of dollars, Is an automatic red flag, absolutely moronic if you think about it. Brian Cushing would be a good example of someone i wouldnt mind investing money into if i was an owner, BJ raij would be a bad one.
Thanks for that, it was an interesting read. I hope this move turns out to be a great one for us. With the injury history of Groves, im a bit concerned with the move. Interesting to see the run game broken down that way in the article though. Hopefully it all translates to a better running game for us this season.
brandon, did you read the analysis that Sho, Aqua and Mr.C did of grove against Kris jenkins in the club level ? Very comforting...i trust those brothers.
everyone keeps talking about groves injury history. can anyone elaborate? b/c i don't keep up with players that don't play for the Dolphins. lol
Yeh it does make sense. He is too small, there were questoins about him being more of a guard coming out of college anyways due to his size. Wilfork, Jenkins, Stroud, I mean thats alot of man meat.
Do not get too caught up in the bodies. There are players without the best looking bodies who play well
I realize that dupree, its somethin i have been thinking about for a long time and from now on will take more of a prescedent in my own personal evaluations. Even if a player has a not so esthetique physique its no excuse to not be in optimum shape relative to your esthetics. I can put these two things together, Samson lacked strength and Musculature, those two weakness may of had something to do with him living in oakland and traded for a 6th rounder.
But....with Vernon, you can see some muscle. Not just fat like Satele is what I think DJ was talking about.
i can't remember what the injury was. i listened to an interview where Jake Grove talked about it and he says it is behind him. This is what Tony S. has had to say on the issue: http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thedailydolphin/2009/03/24/tony-sparano/#more-1654 it's about halfway down. hope that clears up the concerns.
Dunno. Seen some good, seemingly fat tackles. I'm talking beer bellies here. Conversely, not everyone with a ripped physique can play. On that, I have two words for you, bro. David Boston.
ya think, of course there are specifics, iam talkin a general approach. Its moving up in the priority dept. in the evaluation process. Samson had worse problems then a beer belly {which is acceptable for an olineman}, he was soft all over.
