I've heard a few rumors hear and there but nothing concrete. Anybody know if Wii has any plans for a Punch Out game?

IMO, they are out of their minds if they don't make a Punch Out for the Wii. It's one of the most popular games on the original NES and the Wii control scheme would fit it perfectly.

They have the original on the Virtual Console. I agree though a new one would be sweet. They might have a hard time finding a cover guy though, no way Iron Mike gets a call.

They could just roll with fictional characters like they did on the SNES version. That game also ruled!

Because it's a good idea, but it would require a lot of work. Nintendo would rather make easy money.

I disagree man. Nintendo has proven time and time again that their "quirky" innovations are what the market wants. Wii is by far the most popular system out there. I still can't find one on the shelves. You make it sound like they are lazy which is the furthest thing form the truth.

I can find them on shelves around here.

And Nintendo may not be lazy, but their systems sure don't do very well with 3rd party software.

That was Great Tiger for the NES. I think he is referring to Narcis Prince from Super Punch Out for the SNES.

This would be a cool game for the Wii. I don't understand why they don't have a MLB game worth a crap either, unless there is one and I don't know about it.

thats not a coincidence. they want you to buy their controllers, not someone else's. I'd like to see madcats try to make a wii-mote.

Yep....Nintendo has pulled a Sony. Not saying that Sony has prevented 3rd parties from making controllers for their system. Just try getting a 3rd battery battery for an IPOD or a 3rd party mini DVI connector for a MAC.

I said software, not hardware. Though 3rd party hardware does poorly too.

If they could make a new Punch Out and make some gloves to wear it could be a mess of fun. I haven't tried too many of the sports games, I bought NBA Live and it was disappointing for me. I'm digging MarioKart still though that game rocks. Blue turtle shells are evil.

I went back and tried to get at least a one star rating on all of the grand prix courses. Those blue turtle shells were unreal. It took me a least two weeks to get through the mirror class and get one star on all of them.

Though I think part of my problem was that I had the wrong kart. I always use Yoshi. And I was using the white kart the whole time. But I switched to the Daytripper, which has great handling, and I did a lot better.

Is it the original...original with MR. DREAM (aka Tyson) or is it a jipped version without him at the end?

Sorry for bumping this old thread, but it looks like Punch Out on the Wii is gonna happen. Not sure if this has been covered anywhere else.

This looks perfect. Retro enough to feel vintage, new enough to feel different.

Proof's in the pudding though ... it looks awesome but gameplay will determine how it sells.

I'm betting he's referring to some of the stereotypes that the first punch out had. Don Flamenco's flamboyance, The Middle Eastern Magician with the turban, and the worst was Soda Popinski. I guess it was a vodka bottle instead of soda originally before some Russians complained.

    i mean :

    this.

yeah, basically every character was a stereotype of some sort. from the things they said before the match (i think piston honda said something along the lines of "Sushi, kamikaze, fujiyama, nipponichi!"- kinda stereotyped if you ask me!
