wait, define "no cable type of person". Does that mean no AMC, FX, or USA that some of the best shows are featured on? Yeah I can do without TMZ, E!, and all the reality TV stuff, and if you're a fan of primetime shows of 20+ years ago I can definitely understand your frustration with all those sitcoms giving way to the tumorous overgrowth of talent/singing/competition/reality nonsense.
HBO/Showtime/FX/USA/TNT/A&E/Starz/AMC/Netflix owns about 90% of the best shows on tv now. The 2 best things that happened to tv was the widescreen/higher definition transition and the fragmentation of channels. It made tv shows look at least (or better) then 35mm film quality of the time and the fragmentation helped force networks to take on more genre fair that they turned their noses at just years earlier. Made them up their game.
I have no cable. All the shows I want to watch I watch online. Archer, Bob's Burgers, Louis, Maron, Game of Thrones, Arrow, etc...
friends wasn't all that great. I always thought it was pretty overrated. Kind of like the cbs comedys of today: Big bang theory, How I met your mother, etc.
How I Met Your Mother is head and shoulders better than Friends and it deserves to be one of the all time great TV comedies.
