Oh dear lord. I really hope not.

I'm good with any of Richard, Rizzi or Bieniemy but I just don't see what either Flores or Allen would bring to the table.

Looks like Bieniemy is going to the Bengals anyway.

What would make hiring McCarthy a typical Ross hire??

We haven't hired a veteran HC in ages.

Contrary to popular belief, we nearly always hire the hottest candidate on the market and it's usually the guy the fanbase mostly wants... from Saban to Parcells to Philbin to Gase, they were all guys that were tops on the list. Anyone who says otherwise is doing so with the benefit of hindsight.

Only time I can honestly remember we didn't hire our first choice was that GM search that ended in Dennis Hickey.

I think right now after what I am reading and hearing that I would not be upset with any of the three. I prefer Richard, or Rizzi because I like fiery coaches, but Flores is growing on me. I am most curious to who they can bring along with them and if I was making the final call it would be based on that. The stronger coaching staff gets the nod from me.

Honestly, I'm with you as well. I don't have enough information to have a strong opinion on either Richard or Flores... Rizzi is the guy we all know better of the 3, but there's the obvious questions that arise with choosing a ST coordinator as your HC, so I'm going to defer to Grier on this one.

The vibe I am feeling is they all are all excellent communicators and teachers. I want to hang my hat on those attributes this time. A coach can be clever and innovating all they want, but if the players don't understand what they are supposed to do then we get a lot of inconsistency. I can see how that can get frustrating over time because nobody wants to be put in a situation where they just can't seem get it right time and time again. It's demoralizing.

Nothing special? Granted BB is there, but their defense is ranked 7th in the league.

Flores is not my first choice, but he's not my last either. He's a very intriguing guy. I think he's a leader, smart, and could be a very good HC.

    In no order:

    Richard
Bienemy (If he's changed his ways)
    Flores

All 3 could potentially be great HC's.

I do not want Rizzi. Unless the tank is really something they are considering. If that's the case, then Rizzi is your man.

I think this should be the blueprint on how to hire a "green" HC in this league. If a person has these traits he has a chance to be a really good HC.

This could be Ross saying, "Let's make sure we interview our own staff to see if there's any quality there before we let them go and then see them rise and succeed."

Yo Ross. Freaking Mike McCarthy is out there. And Rhule was interviewing with the Jets. I don't care if they're not interested. Find a way to meet with them.

Just to play devil's advocate/be fair - I have read some tweets where opinions on Loggains were actually high. Argument is the Dolphins didn't get to see him because Gase was in control...

McCarthy is flat out not interested. He does not want a job that is geographically so far away from Wisconsin. The Browns and Jets were the only ones that met his needs. Since he is still getting a paycheck from GB this season, he is in no hurry to make a change.

As for Loggains, that makes no sense if it's a "serious" interview. However, he is viewed well in the league. It isn't a bad idea to give him a courtesy interview. Let Grier pick his brain, digest some offensive concepts, see what he might bring to NYJ if he does end up there. Also, it could be a tactic to keep him officially on staff for another few days/weeks, giving our new HC an option to retain him. Maybe also an attempt by Grier to see how much of the offensive shortcomings were Gase vs. Loggains (in relation to potentially keeping him as OC under a Flores/Richard)?

Granted the Jets are, well, the Jets and that's potentially enough to put off certain candidates from their job. However, they do potentially have their franchise quarterback if Sam Darnold turns into the player people expect him to be. So there's appeal to coaching with the Jets due to the quarterback situation, they have a high draft pick, and a lot of cap space.

    What do we have?

Arguably no quarterback of the future. Our draft position will make drafting one difficult, and to move up will be very costly. And our cap situation isn't amazing either. So outside of the weather, there's not a great deal going for our team at the minute to tempt the top candidates here. Only way I could see them coming here is if they got a Jon Gruden kinda deal from us.

Ultimately I know he's not and you can't necessarily change that...

    But...

Ross, you're one of that richest owners in the NFL. A billionaire. You're telling me there isn't a cheque you can write that wouldn't at least get you a sit down with him?

Buy am interview if you have to. Give him a holiday in Miami for a chance to see if you can convince him, or feel him out.

if they cut the people they are projected to cut (or trade) they will have over $60m. That's not horrible.

However, the biggest thing the Dolphins HC job has is stability. Ross has said that he knows this is going to take time. He said that he realizes the next couple of years will be (potentially) bad seasons. The Jets, for example, are going to expect the playoffs next season.

Jed York and the 49ers GM preached patience after firing Jim Tomsula after one season in charge. His replacement - Chip Kelly - lasted one season. Other teams have fired head coaches after one or two bad seasons. So while Ross and Grier might be preaching patience and giving the new coach time, it is by no means guaranteed that any new coach will get that time because people can change their minds and projections of how the team should be doing.

I guess Gase lasting three seasons and Philbin lasting into a fourth season shows some stability, but Gase was pretty much a .500 career coach with us and got canned before his fourth season. Sometimes patience wears thin and Ross' seemed to do with Gase. So maybe the new guy does get 3,4 or 5 years, then again it wouldn't surprise me to see us change course again in the near future.

My guess is. They are going to hire someone off of a playoff team. Thats why they are waiting. Need to hire the coach asap.

I suppose they seriously could be keeping an open door to a coach next year if they don't like any this year. So they keep their current staff:

    Loggains or Rizzi HC
The other one gets a legit coordinator position.

    And see what they've got.

If they succeed - great, if they don't, it's a natural tank process.

I usually don't go with what the fanbase says or who is the hottest candidate. Of those you mentioned I didn't like any of them except the parcells hiring, and he wasn't even hired as HC. Since Shula retired I've only liked the Jimmy Johnson signing. I was also hopeful for Saban but skeptical since he had no NFL experience. I definitely did not want philbin or gase. I also didn't want the sparano signing. I wanted us to keep Todd Bowles as HC instead of hiring philbin, and I wanted Dan Campbell to stay as head coach instead of hiring gase. Right now I prefer promoting Rizzi to HC than signing any of the inexperienced and green candidates being talked about. For me the best choices right now is either get jim or John harbaugh without giving up high draft picks(not likely) or hire Darren Rizzi who I think is a better choice than any of the other inexperienced coordinators being interviewed like Flores, Richards or bienemy.

You have to understand that the hottest HC candidate every off-season usually fails. The league is terrible at identifing who the actual best available coaches are.

Well, if you wanted Bowles or Dan Campbell, then you can't go on and say "Dolphins are gonna Dolphin" and that they're always wrong, because you yourself can't back up that you were right regarding past head coaching candidates.

And if what you're saying about the hottest candidate usually failing is true, then the Dolphins actually aren't doing anything wrong, cause aren't they going after Flores who isn't the hottest coaching candidate?

Basically what you're trying to say is that the only HC candidates that are worth hiring are the ones that you're considering the best... thing is, who made you the authority on HC candidates? Especially after you just admitted that you would have previously chosen a HC who failed and another who still couldn't land a HC job 3 years after the fact.

What I'm trying to say it's waaay too soon to pass judgement on moves that they haven't even made yet and say that "Dolphins are gonna Dolphin", there's just no basis for this kind of critique yet, IMO.
