With the distinct possibility of not getting a good QB prospect this year, who could we possibly be looknig at next year besides Andrew Luck?
Other than Luck I know Nick Foles from Arizona is a guy that was talked about being a potential 1st rounder if he came out this year. Also you have to think Matt Barkley from USC would be in the conversation. CK was really high on Brandon Weeden from Oklahoma St. He'll be a bit old though.
I'm not as high on Nick Foles as Simon is, as of right now, but I will say that Nick Foles has performed and come along to a point where he COULD take that next step and really become that kind of player. I think from a pure talent standpoint the top QBs in the 2012 NFL Draft will be Andrew Luck, Brandon Weeden and Matt Barkley. Weeden will be 29 years old before he could even suit up for an NFL team, and that's really going to turn people off. The only guy like him that's managed that was that FSU guy, already forget his name, and Weeden blows him away from a pure quarterback talent standpoint. But Barkley will be the young pup that could and probably will come out of school early rather than continue on at USC...and he could give Andrew Luck a little run for his money. He's been a guy you knew could make a run at #1 overall type distinction since High School. Watching him throw a football is, mechanically speaking, a religious experience at times. Barkley could specially give Luck a little run for his money (but ultimately will not get top QB distinction IMO) if people start to question just how much Luck wants the NFL rather than to be an Architectural Engineer. Luck will have to privately convince teams he stayed in school because of the looming CBA issues and potential lockout, didn't want to waste a year when he could be using the year to get better, etc. Come to think of it Weeden will have to do the same because he had by far even less excuse to return to school as his advanced age and the fact that he'd already graduated should have put a fire on his butt to come out and move on to the next challenge. Instead he took the easy route, stayed in school, and is joining the golf team. I'm the biggest fan of this guy, but that disturbs the sh-t out of me. He has such a lax attitude about this, I'm starting to see why Gundy had him 3rd string only a year ago despite him having other-worldly talent.
*****? The guy who has the record for the most losses in a row as a starting quarterback? EDIT: Chris Weinke, the quarterback who was so bad his last name is banned from the forum.
LOL. Yup, that's him. Unfortunately Chris Weinke wasn't all that talented. I think Seifert stuck with him just because of his maturity.
I dont know these young men personally, and this is a forum where iam free to express my opinion based on limited info, but when it comes to Weeden and Luck staying in school instead of being 1st round draft picks, it really pisses me off for some reason..I think their stupid as hell, especially when have the chance to go #1.....duuuuuuh, you can always go back to school in your thirties..You have a 10 year window of life to compete at the highest level and make more money than you or your family will ever need, yet you risk injury so you can be a kid one more year....awwwwww isnt that special.. Barkley is a competitive SOB....couldn't he of come out like Luck?..not sure about that..
Two things I appreciate about Kellen Moore. 1) He's a true student of the game, 2) He really improved his deep ball a ton.
I think Barkley and Luck are the real deal. If we miss the playoffs, I hope we bottom out enough to get one of them. Mechanics, physical skillset, mental skillset are present in both. I think both those kids are the next generation of great NFL QB's.
If Kellen Moore can add some weight, I could very well see him becoming a Drew Brees type player.... and if I were the Saints, he'd be a priority on next year's draft board. He's the kind of guy I'd probably feel good about spending a 3rd on (or maybe 2nd) if we switch to a more spread open offense.
