They had a segment where they had a baloon for every team they thought would be in the playoffs this year and they popped the teams baloon when they thought they would be eliminated. Correct me if im wrong but I believe that they had us making it farther in the playoffs than the Vikings, and the Jets didn't even make it. It is good to see that the Dolphins are finally getting some respect.
Yeah I saw that. I noticed that during the schedule release show, they talked about Miami for about 30 seconds and it was over. They gave the other teams and the Jets more time than that. I would like them to give us more respect than that.
Was on the moment I turned on NFLN today. I had to do a double take a rewind my DVR. I missed the part leading up to it though.
I thought the OP explained why it matters. At least to him. Myself I can safely say I feel better hearing positives about the team than I do when we're being trashed, as well.
Ok. So I ask again...why does it matter? Does it matter if we are "respected"? Is that like the 7th tie breaker? "...if teams are STILL tied, then we will add up how much 'respect' they were given nationally before the season started"? I have never understood why we as fans care what other entities say about us. If that matters, then the Jets are Far and Away ahead of us, because they are getting all kinds of "respect".
Ok. If it makes you "feel" better, then thats legit, I guess. I must not value any of the talking heads opinions enough for them to make me feel one way or another about the Dolphins. So many people right now are on the Jets bandwagon. I don't feel bad about it. The responsibility is on the Jets to prove they deserve it. I don't think they can. But we'll see. We just disagree on this.
Miami will never get any respect... for anything (on ESPN). Just like the Marlins and Heat, at least as far as ESPN is concerned. I swear sometimes, it feels like ESPN actively avoids showing any Marlins/Heat highlights or give any credit where it might be due. It's like whenever the Marlins go on a 10-game win streak, they'd rather cover how the Mets are slumping for about an hour and a half, and only show about 30 seconds worth of Marlins commentary. And when the heat go on an *cough* 8-game hot streak, they turn to the Lakers story and how much of a catastrophe it is that they're missing Kobe and almost completely dismiss the Heat (or any other team not from Boston, Phoenix or San Antonio). I recall back in 08 when the Dolphins opened up a can of whoopass on the beloved Patriots with the. ESPN must have showed about a day's worth of PATRIOT interviews/commentary on their failure to stop the new "Wildcat", when in reality they were just steamrolled by the Dolphin offensive line (Both Harrison and Bruski admit it). Turns out, the Wildcat is nothing more than a glorified power-offense minus the hand-off. It was all "boo-hoo, the Pats lost"... It's all about Boston, NY, and LA... whatever minor thing is going on in those cities will overshadow most major events in any other town 90% of the time.
The point was that the Jets are hype beasts and it was nice to see someone not praising them...this isnt all about respect, just get excited about your team
Because its been over a decade since anything has been really exciting about this franchise, and this is just another nugget of satisfaction that points to us moving in the right direction for the first time in a loooong time.
It's just nice seeing the experts or so called experts predict your team will do well. They also went into some depth and explained why they made these predictions. Each year these predictions change. Each year they either hit or miss on these predictions. More often than not they miss this time of year. All in all though I and many others enjoy hearing good things said about our team. I hope that better explains it. That's certainly one point and I have to admit it wasn't over looked by me. Love seeing the experts slowly walk away from the hype machine that is the New york Jests.
On Sports Nation Cowherd picked Dolphins to beat the Jest week 3 which surprised me, but he did give the heat a lot of the credit and while it'll be hot, it's also a night game.
Does it? I remember Saban's second season...so many had us pegged to overtake the Patriots. Its fine if you or others like that sort of gratification. I just don't understand it. The Fins have to win. If they win, they will get the only kind of respect I care about, and thats holding the Lombardi Trophy after the SB. I am not saying that its wrong to be excited if others think the Fins are good. I just wondered how much it meant to you guys.
i saw that thing today on sports nation. i was surprised, considering how much everyone talks about the jets lately.
I guess it depends on where one lives. I live in PA and go to school in VT, and ever since Ive followed the dolphins, nothing major was ever talked about on ESPN and now NFLN. Maybe I get excited because I dont have the local Florida media to watch, but now that the dolphins are making noise in the NFL, its starting to get exciting and EVERYONE knows it. Go Phins!
