Jay Ratliff is 303 and he's one of the best NT's in the game. It's not about the weight IMO.

I was just making a point. I respectfully disagreed.

I have to give cobrajet credit, you never have to guess what's on his mind. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's bad but it's always entertaining.

    Well away from here
Not unpopular, only simply curious given his use of one reason; size. Is Starks lack of 340ish size as large a deal as it may have been say 10 years ago? The reason I ask is simply that I'd like to mention here the direction the league is heading.

Offense certainly rules the football world, but the type of offense may be more important. Teams are certainly passing more than they used to. As such a NT who is a tree stump is likely less appealing than someone who can handle the run at an adequate level due to speed, quickness; the ability to play in and through gaps is IMHO vitally more important. That type of defensive player is likely the new vogue for the position rather than the Chester McClockten's of the world.

I'm not saying he's wrong by any means, but simply stating that it is due to him having less than prototypical size (paraphrased) as the basis is what I disagree with. In this NFL, his size and speed etc. may be better for the position than what it would have been a decade ago.

Con, Iam not sure how the dealings of Marshall and Cutler are similar to what were talking about here, Iam talking about developing backups with good coaching and flippin some of them for higher draft picks, those two were the entrenched starters Marshall and Cutler, I think those happenings are different issues for that front office and coaching staff.

At some point, if the backup player continues to ascend in his game and garners interest, and you have an all pro player that is'nt goin anywhere at his position, you will have to make that decision. and if I believe I can get a more talented prospect to play somewhere else on the team, I pick my spots and I do it.... got to have confidence in my evaluation skills and in the coaching staffs ability to get players to perform. I would rather build a strong starting football team first. If there are weaknesses on the starting units, Iam gonna fill that position with what I get from the higher draft pick I received..

Iam not sure either way is wrong.

You gotta do both at times. Marshall and Cutler is simply referencing trading away players for picks. Good players for picks.

To me, those trades were more a case of McDaniels simply removing talent who did not mesh with what he wanted in his team, such auctions are extremely rare in the NFL as typically the Head Coach just makes do, not McKid.

He's depleted the Shanny talent on the roster, he has very few pieces left to fire sale, but hey..they got Tebow...
