Matt Moore is a great backup, one of the best in the league imo

Too much dissing of Matt Moore around here for my liking. He is every bit as good as Flynn, if not better.

It would fine with me if we just drafted Brandon Weeden and let the two of the compete for the starting job.

Matt could definitely be a starter in this league. He's already better than like 2/3 of the NFL! Do you try and upgrade? Yes. Do you dump him? Hell no. It's hard to go 6-3 in this league and that's what he did, after warming up a couple games.

He's under contract for a year. Why dump him? He's proven he can play in this league. Of course we're going to try and get that franchise QB, but Matt is that guy right underneath Franchise IMO. He could develop into a franchise QB. not elite, but franchise. For now, he's the best backup you can have, and a darn good starter.

Moore isn't prolific, but he's good. There are only two scenarios in which Moore isn't competing for a starting job at the least. A healthy ready to go 100% Peyton Manning, or if Philbin legitimately believes that Matt Flynn is an elite talent. It still should be mentioned that Moore's good games came against Defenses ranked the highest 12th (PPG) while his worst games came against teams ranked all in the 20's (PPG) except one ranked 10th (Eagles). One other thing to note as well, he started in 12 games where he was 6-6 and in the SD game where he played most of the game, we lost.

FWIW, PFF ranked him as the overall 9th QB in the league in 2011. Like KB21 has said several times, if Moore had been a high draft pick and put up those same numbers, everyone would be saying we had our QB problems solved.

Backup. Maybe third string if we land Peyton and Tannehill.

I wasn’t dissing Moore per se.

It’s just that my fantasy off season involves signing Manning, Saturday, Wayne and Mathis in FA and then drafting Tannehill at #8.

Theres no reason whatsoever to get rid of Moore. Obviously with all of the talk going around we are looking to upgrade at the Qb position so he is more than likely looked at as the backup by this front office and coaching staff. Philibin might not see him as a great fit for his offense, you never know. I don't think he's elite but he's a competent starter, I don't agree that he's top 10 or whatever people are saying. It seems like there are people getting a bit crazy about dissing him but he's not an elite Qb either.

Even if we get Peyton and Tannehill, he's second string. Peyton gets injured halfway through the season, as long as we're not 0-8, Matt Moore gives you the best chance to make the playoffs. You don't throw in the rookie if you have Moore on the bench before you are eliminated from the playoffs.

I see Matt Moore as the starting QB for the Dolphins next season, if they don't sign Manning or Flynn. Even if they make a trade up to get RG3, I think Moore would start the season as the starting QB with RG3 possibly taking over by the third or fourth game. No matter who is signed or drafted, I see Moore as a Dolphin next season, but since he is only under contract for the 2012 season, I see him playing on another NFL team in 2013.

I agree he is every bit as good as Flynn, maybe better. However, he's going to be a victim of the coaching carosel and will be at a huge disadvantage with any QB familiar with a wc offense in a straight up competition. Shame, but that's the breaks.

Great backup, below average starter. Miami likely won't be sniffing the playoffs with Moore as the starter. If only the Dolphins got to play the Bills every week...

Moore was blessed to be going up week-after-week against poor passing defenses. When it came to QB rating for defenses:

    Philly 19th
    NE 20th
    NYG 21st
    Washington 24th
    Dallas 25th
    Buffalo 26th
    Buffalo 26th
    SD 27th
    Denver 28th

Of course, all those fumbles (14) that resulted in turnovers (6) have to be ignored too and since that doesn't go into the QB rating Moore fans can "pretend" putting the ball on the ground shouldn't be taken into account for being a good QB. Logic goes something like this.

QB throws interception, stat line reads 0-1, 1 int = bad QB
QB turns ball over on fumble, stat line reads 0-0, 0 int = still good QB

Matt Moore is a career backup QB, we have a solid offense thus why all fingers point to the Dolphins as a sexy destination for Manning. Our offensive unit as a team made Moore look good. Send more packing to Cleveland and see what happens. Same thing that happened in Carolina, flop. Moore works with what we got but we aren't going to win a playoff game much less a championship with him at the helm and that's just reality. Same goes for Flynn, there is a reason the dude is riding the bench, not to mention the Packers have a plethora of great receivers to toss the ball to. Flynn looks great in that offense with that surrounding cast much like Cassel did in NE we all see how that turned out once he received his millions in KC.

Turns out Matt Moore is the only quarterback who plays against Philly, NE, NYG, Washington, Dallas, Buffalo and SD. All the other quarterbacks play against amazingly great passing defenses.

Here is that fuzzy logic again.

So when Henne played this year (2 teams in the top 10 defenses against the pass...Hou and Clev) Henne had a 7.8 YPA when the OL was horrific (3 new starters and Long still hurt) and Marshall dropped 3-4 TD passes in those games.

Yet when Moore plays (9 of the 13 games against defenses 19 or below against the pass) Moore has a 7.2 YPA.

I don't ignore the YPA, it appears you are...Moore's YPA was .6 below Henne's when Moore went up against lesser defenses.

"Take the fumbles into account if you must..." Why wouldn't reasonable fan not take those into account...they are TURNOVERS. In fact, they are worse than an interception b/c the QB drops the ball right where he is. At least on an interception the ball gets thrown down the field.

You act like Moore himself turned Miami around. It was the "team" that turned around. Miami won when the defense gave up 3 points against KC, 9 points against Washington, 8 points against Buffalo, 14 against Oakland, 23 against Buffalo, and 17 against the Jets...these weren't shootouts in which Moore came through in the clutch and carried Miami to victory on his arm. Miami's defense allowed 12.33 ppg in those wins and set up the offense on many occasions resulting in a short field. Don't forget about how good Reggie Bush was during that time. Moore will probably get credit for making Bush a better player now. Miami only won when they played solid football as a team against opponents that weren't all that good at the time.

The Chiefs (7-9) win was against a team that lost the next 3 games after Miami, scored a dismal 28 points during a 5 game period Miami played them, and finished losing 6 of final 9 games.
The Redskins 5-11) win was part of a 6 game losing streak and lost 10 of final 12 games.
The Bills (6-10) wins were part of 7 game losing streak and lost 9 of final 11 games.
The Raiders (8-8) win was against a team that lost 4 of last 5 games after getting Palmer and had to travel 3,000 miles.
The Jets (8-8) win was against a team that lost the last 3 games of the season and since has come to light how dysfunctional that team was by feuding with each other.

Didn't beat a single team with a winning record. Beat teams with a combined 40-56 record.

Where is the quality win? Not that any win is easy in the NFL, but as I previously said Miami doesn't sniff the playoffs with Moore starting unless we get another 2008 type schedule.

It's unfortunate you aren't able to support your arguments and have to resort to personal attacks. A sure sign of low self-esteem. Good luck with that. You may want to consider professional help.

It's because we didn't draft Matt Moore. A blind man could see that he was a better QB than Henne. People will throw out a perfectly good QB to chase their pipe dreams of drafting the next Marino.
