He seems to be getting a free pass this year for being absolutely terrible while Apple is getting crapped on (rightfully so). The Dolphins are going to need at least 2 new CB's for next year, X should be gone so they are going to need a new starting CB and a nickel at least. Also, what the hell was this?
Could anyone do well in that spot? Seems like his job is to chase WR running across the field with no help all the while hoping the defense line gets pressure.
Hard to expect much from an undrafted player. Noah I was supposed to be the answer and we’re now paying for that mistake. We can’t afford Smith to be a bust as well. Hopefully it’s a matter of learning assignments(which no one has seemed to know the last 2 weeks) and not a talent/bust issue.
He’s been getting criticized on here for a good part of the season, at least since it was obvious that he was not a replacement for Ramsey. Despite playing fairly well last year, he’s regressed considerably this season by comparison. Fangio keeps giving us excuses for why Smith isn’t playing, but he can’t be worse than Apple and Kohou have been.
IMO Cam Smith was drafted to replace Howard in 2024 and they're purposely making him sit and learn. There's no other explanation for sticking with Apple and Kohou for this long.
Hopefully that’s the case, but would they really keep him on the bench if the other two are costing the team games, though?
From what I’ve been hearing Smith is having difficulty grasping Fangio’s defense, which is he’s not played a snap all season.
Kader needs to be exclusively a nickle, inside corner. When Ramsey and Howard were both healthy and he was allowed to work in that role, he was just fine. He's also one of the surest tacklers on the team. To this point, he's no threat to take the ball away or make amazing plays, but he's fine in coverage when he stays in his lane. When he's asked to play outside, he sucks, and we should hope he's not put into that position much next year. Cam Smith was drafted to replace Howard in that role, and we better hope that the coaches do enough with him in August to get him ready. Bonner will also likely be given a shot to compete in camp, but hoping for him to start is probably asking too much. I would expect that Needham, who seems to have totally lost his athletic skill after the injury, is done.
He was solid there for awhile at the beginning of the season. Probably good to keep him just for depth in the future:
Rumors are that he's had a bad attitude and trouble learning all year, and that those were legit concerns that drove him into the 2nd round in the first place. We can only hope he gets his head together for this year.
My enduring memory of Jordan is how disgusted he looked on draft night when we traded up and took him.
Wonder how we would know the difference based on receivers already running wide open against those that are playing
Nor a good comparison. Jordan was a 3rd overall pick. Smith is only a second rounder. Just hope he doesn't end up a bust like Iggy.
Yea I meant it in the sense of guys with lots of talent who don't make it because of their attitude/work ethic. Smith was considered first round talent and slipped into the second round. Some of the best guys you draft come from round 2.
I was very disappointed because I barely even knew who Jordan was, and felt that we had a great chance to improve the team where we were. I wanted TE Tyler Eifert and RB LeVeon Bell, not even realizing both would be as good as they were at their height.
Another blunder in a long line of Miami dolphins draft blunders. Take the OT everyone wanted and expected who’s been one of the best RT’s in football over the last 10 years or take a complete bust.
