I just recently bought tickets to see Mary J Blige live in concert for next month. I have been a huge fan of hers since '92 and it will be the first time I'll see her and it will be the first time she will perform ever in Sydney. I am expecting the experience to be one of the greatest moments in my life, personally.

I was wondering about other people's opinions and experiences they have had when at their favourite artist's concerts. So regardless of genre, I'm sure everyone has great and various taste, what is your greatest experience at a live concert in your life? It would be interesting to check out other artists if they have good reviews when they go live.

Personally I haven't been to many and the one so far which I would rate the best would be a singer by the name of Joe which I went to a couple of years ago. One of the best rnb singers out there currently in my opinion.

Nightwish, with either singer they are just awesome... the Tea Party were awesome too. Muse I saw twice and though I love them I wasn't blown away as I should have been. Oh and Carole King was pretty good too

Seeing Lacuna Coil in June so may have another one to add to the list

Any concert where I'm up on stage playing, and not in the crowd. That experience trumps any live event I've ever been to, anywhere. - Except maybe Victor Wooten's Bass/Nature Camp 2007. But it was a week long, and I did a little bit of playing there too, so it doesn't count.

Hard to say I've seen some pretty good shows.

Three stand out: My first big concert was in '02, it was the first show that The Who played after John Entwistle died. And seeing Tom Petty a couple years back was great as well. The other show that stands out was the Rolling Stones during their Bigger Bang tour. The couple times I've seen Metallica was great also. I guess I havent really had many bad concert experiences, so it's easy to list all of them. Only one I was kind of disappointed in was Eric Clapton, but that still wasnt a bad show by any means.

Dave Matthews Band on New Years Eve '99. Awesome show. A close 2nd would be two years ago I flew to L.A. from Vegas to see the opening show of the Killers Sam's Town Tour. Also, an awesome show.

    Wurd.

The best I've seen so far was 1982, Madison Square Garden.

Iron Maiden on the "Number of The Beast" tour opening for Judas Priest on the "Screaming For vengeance" tour. Both bands at their pinnacle.

I'm amazed the Garden is still standing.

Second would have to be - and I'm not ashamed to say this - KISS at the Garden on their reunion tour in 1996. First time the original lineup was together in 18 years. When the announcer said "YOU WANTED THE BEST....YOU GOT THE BEST...." I turned back into that same 15 year old kid who saw them back in '75.

So far, it was The B-52's and the Violent Femmes playing a twin bill at the Illinois State Fair. I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing Yes in Chicago in July.

Foo Fighters just a few months ago.
I saw Live in concert, and damn thta is one hell of a good live music band!
I've seen Mettallica numerous times, they never disappoint.

My fave has got to be the Foo Fighters though. They put on a long, long show...and even had a whole segment of the show devoted to acoustical music.

    WOW!! I'm not alone!!!

Out of the type of music i like, The Tea Party shows i've been to were the best. They are.. err.. were just amazing to see live.

After that, I'd have to say Alter Bridge was quite the show.

Then I'd have to include Elton John. Im not a fan of his, but you still know all the songs right? I had the opportunity to see him in Vegas, and the guy is a legendary artist, so I went, and it was actually pretty cool. Besides, its not very often you come across an opportunity to see a legend like that. I would have never paid the over $200 bucks to see it, but when youre not paying, its not so bad.

Puddle of Mudd opened...Def Tones played....then Godsmack headlined.....awesome live show.

Godsmack is awesome live.....the lead singer sully erna used to play the drums, so at one point he went on this sick solo with the drummer battling back n fourth.....ill never forget it, had no voice for like 2 weeks.....i loved it!!!!

Seeing Tool was great, they had a crappy opener in Melt Banana. It was just... noise. Their guitar and bass riffs were good, their drums was so simple a monkey could play it, and the vocals? I'd rather pull my hair out than listen to that singer.

However, Tool was great. They put on a great show and I would definitely go see them again if given the chance. A few other bands I have seen that put on a good show were Sevendust, 10 Years, Mudvayne, Disturbed, and Nonpoint.

    Peeking in Nabo's Basement
    Kiss and W.A.S.P. January 1986.
Me and 3 friends skipped school to get to the stadium at like 7 AM. (It was general admission) and took turns rolling doobers all day and running off for Big Macs. The gate we were waiting at was guarded by a dude that barely topped 60" in height and weighed less than Calista Flockhart. We saw another gate letting people in and rushed this dude, slamming him against the gate and causing it to fall down. Me, my buddies, and all the insane members of the Kiss Army behind me kept on rushing in, ended up rolling down the concrete stairs and making it to the second row, center stage. The show was great, I ended up getting beer sprayed on me from Blackie Lawless, my face was roasted red from the pyrotechnic show that Kiss put on, and I got head after the show from a gal that I let sit on my shoulders throughout the Kiss concert. I still have the un-torn ticket in my box of interesting memoribalia.

Bob Dylan at Roselands in the fall of 1994. Did his unplugged version of Knockin on Heavens Door. Good stuff.

And another: Rage did a set at the dysfuntional family picnic in Jones Beach that was pretty intense.
back then, kid rock was just an opener, and howard stern played a set with rob zombie. didnt bother staying for limp bizkit. it wasnt gonna get any better than Rage that night.

Their absolution tour dvd is awesome and easily my fav. I however like a bit more artist/audience interaction, they tend to just play one song after another which I don't mind I love most of their stuff but I need a little more than that when I'm at their gig. And to be honest I'm not there to watch a light show

Billy Joel is going to be opening the new entertainment center at Ceasars Casino Windsor here in a couple of weeks, Tickets are rare and hard to come by, but id like to get my hands on some. Before my time and all, but It would be another show like the Elton John one i saw... Just something you have to do if you have the opportunity to.

I went to watch the Charles Mingus big band two years ago... unfortunately that means that Charles Mingus was loooooooooooooooooooooong gone... but it still was pretty good. Also saw Medeski, Martin and Wood and John Zorn in Mexico City.

I'm afraid that while I have been to a hip hop gig, it was latino hip hop and very old at that (Ilya Kuriacky and the Valderramas with Tiro de Gracia) and I must say Ilya were freaking awesome.

There has been nothing that comes close to seeing KISS for the first time. I was kind of a casual fan to begin with. I started to listen to them around their reunion tour. The Psycho Circus tour came around and it cemented them in as my favorite band.

I have found nothing that beats standing there as the lights go out and the drone starts. Then you hear the, "You wanted the best, you got the best...," followed by the intro to Detroit Rock City and its over. I got goosebumps just typing that. And even though their recent tours have been mediocre by KISS standards they are still pretty enjoyable.
