Randy and Calvin are genetic freaks. I remember that draft so many teams passing on Randy Moss. I wish we drafted him Marino to Moss!
you ain't kidding! That's back when people thought weed was the devil. LOL I hope that was a lesson learned.... but could you imagine just one year of Marino to Moss! We'd forget all about the Mark's bros! This got me to thinking about how crappy Oakland has been drafting! They couldve grabbed Jay Cutler instead of a Safety....followed that up in the 2nd round with Marcus McNeil to protect him....then drafted Calvin Johnson 07, Sedrick Ellis or Ryan Clady 08, and finished with BJ Raji and (LeSean McCoy?) 09.
CJ is better than Randy Moss when it comes to physical attributes. He's 1 inch taller, like 30 pounds heavier, and just as fast as he is. God, I'm so jealous.
in the right setting and barring injury, I think CJ becomes the best WR in NFL history. Ash, we can all chip in for a pair of stilettos for ya if you like.
Maybe. He needs better QB play, though. Maybe Stafford is that guy. And, Stilettos aren't good enough. How am I supposed to run a 4.4 40 in stiliettos?
hahaha....just wax your legs and we won't notice how fast you're running. Hopefully Stafford's the guy who can get CJ the ball beyond coverage to where he can still run under it rather than waiting for it. I'm seeing 2000 yards next year. Posted via Mobile Device
Michael Crabtree is the only draft pick in the entire 2009 class that doesn't have a signed contract. How ridiculous.
its funny but the Raiders were ripped for not drafting him. DHB isnt lighting the world on fire yet but at least he's in camp
The one Raiders game I saw, he was actually a bright spot (DHB that is). Running very clean routes, quick..man that kid is quick and he made a very nice adjustment on a low pass. He's gonna be a pretty good WR IMO. Like I said before, could it be that Alice Davis actually got one right
Speaking of quick wide receivers, Marshawn Gilyard of Cincinnati will be on at 4 PM ET on ESPN. He can fly and he's dynamic with the ball in his hands. He's probably a guy who will light the combine on fire and get into the late first/early second.
Rutgers LT Anthony Davis looks pretty good right now in this first drive against Cincinnati. Showing some mean streak but he missed an open target at the second level and then there were a couple plays where he blocked no one. Could have helped out but since his rusher left, he was done. Also, Tony Pike. Helluva start.
I was hoping we'd draft Mike Wallace last year to get another much needed playmaker on the field. I'd be even happier with Marty! Kid's got some wheels. Posted via Mobile Device
I'm amazed that the Raiders might have done something right in the draft(1st rnd) for the first time in like...20 years?
No worries, Al Davis promptly blew that by trading 2011's #1 for a guy who does not want to play in Oakland..One step forward, two steps back.
Have you seen any of Jacoby Ford? Little inconsistent but dude could definitely fill out the role of returner real well for us I think. Add another speed to dimension to the offense as well.
Yeah I actually saw him for the first time against GT, last night. I like him as a returner but I wonder where he'd fit on this team other then that spot. I don't see any other spot for him in the receiving core.
I think he would play the slot but concentrate solely on return duties for a year or two. I think he would add another speed dimension to the offense and he is another guy that seems adept at running the end arounds. One guy I am interested in though is Brandon Banks from Kansas State. Kind of hoping Vengeful Odin can shed some light on the guy. I haven't seen play but from what I've read about him, he is lightning fast and strong for his size. He goes about 5'7 150 but apparently can run a 4.30 forty.
Forgot about Trindon Holliday too. Little guy can fly. This up coming draft could be a good one for returners.
Another slot receiver? I don't know man. I think we've got enough. We've got two guys that can play the slot well already in Hartline and Bess. I think the nineteenth overall selection is a bit ridiculous, to be honest. He sits out a whole year and is a top twenty pick? I could see him being the fourth receiver graded though. He wasn't the best one in this draft class and next years top group is better IMO.
In the game last night (from what I saw) DHB was getting open and running at least decent routes, but he couldn't hold on to the ball the two of the three times I saw him. The 3rd one he caught for a 1st, only to get negated by a penalty.
I could see Crabtree going top 32 next draft Alen, certainly, especially if his foot is 100% and rips off a great 40 time. NFL GM's are enamoured with measurables Alen.
I hope he doesn't. He doesn't deserve it and for the general manager that picks him earlier than that, they should get fired.
I didn't say he wouldn't but I did say I found it ridiculous. If they're enamored with measurables then they won't be thrilled to see that he's 6'1 3/8 and runs a 4.5+ with a bad attitude and poor work ethic. Going to be honest with you, if there's a team that I see taking him in the top 64 picks its either the Raiders or the Cowboys. Both teams like attention and they've both got boneheaded men in charge. I've been plenty wrong before though, so this wouldn't be the first time.
I don't think they would get fired, but they would be getting what they deserve. A good WR who is also a mal-content and one year removed from Football
Skeet and I were talking, and we thought Crabtree may be the straw that finally puts in a rookie pay scale. Which I think would be a very good thing.
I agree it is more than likely going to happen. This nonesense of handcuffing a team cause they pick early has to change.
Think it was Bill Simmons who posted an interesting thought. Crabtree was arguably top 3 talent who fell to #10. Why shouldnt the 49ers count their blessings and just up and pay the man. Its not like the slotting thing is an official system or anything. Instead of being happy they lucked out with a top pick at a place they arguably shouldnt have gotten one, they tried to go cheap and shoehorn him into "#10 slot" money. I think there is blame to go around on all 3 sides, and pinning it all on Crabtree and saying hes a primadonna is cutting San Fran and the NFL way to much slack.
Because he doesn't deserve it. If the pay scale (if you wish to call it that) was based off of "talents", then guys would be getting ridiculous amounts of money, even the ones that slipped. However, the pay scale is based off of where the player was drafted and that's why Crabtree should not be paid more than the number ten overall pick.
If I was Crabtree I would be kicking myself in the ***. Now he'll have to work a full time job for the next 10 months to get by instead of bathing in the millions he could have gotten... what a sucker.
Disagree with that Alen, he is entitled to make the best deal for himself, his services have been conscripted and his professional rights owned for the next 7 years effectively, he should have the ability to use whatever means he deems neccessary to cut the best deal for himself. In the NFL, a player will be cut at the whiff of injury, imho the player's only chip is cutting the best contract they can for themselves.
Making the best deal for yourself is one thing, asking for an outrageous amount of money is another thing.
Yea but Crabtree was top 3 talent according to who? Not the teams ahead of the 49ers apparently. They all had guys they thought were better than Crabtree at that point. While the slotting isn't official, it is kind of understood between the teams. The whole thing about Crabtree having top ten talent and that he should be paid as such is bull to me. You were picked where you were picked. Rey Mauluaga was considered to have top ten talent but yet fell to the 2nd round. Does that mean he should of asked for top ten money as well?
Someone might have said this already but I'll get in here... The 49ers made one mistake...they drafted him. dude was playing prima-donna all through the draft process. Just another reason why I'd never take a receiver in the first round.
