I agree. Absolutely the deepest comic book character I ever came across. After Warlock it was the Silver Surfer and Ghost Rider
I'm shocked that I haven't seen more Spawn or Hellboy favorites. That's the era that I stopped reading comics for a while, but I know a lot of people came in reading Spawn.
I grew up reading Spawn, but IMO the movies didn't do them justice and probably put off alot of potential fans that weren't already familiar with them and their comics before the films.
Groo *Slaughters entire village, including the princess he was supposed to rescue* "Did I err?" Judge Dredd No superpowers, just an iron will to uphold the law. The sort of man who'll rescue you from a serial killer and then put you in the iso-cubes for failing to return your library books on time. The Phantom No superpowers. Fights piracy and injustice from a secret jungle lair. The original adventures from the '30s and '40s are amongst the best comic book superhero stories ever told. Whilst every other superhero (Ghost Tank, Captain America, Captain Canada, Iron Sergeant) was lining up to fight the Nazis he was fighting the Japs. PS Special mention for The Tick
