I've heard it a a couple of different ways D1, Macchio played more then one would think, Cooder played a bunch, maybe Stevie Ray had some backup work..

All I know is this:

Most Guitar players can know two things:

1. They can play Rawhide
2. They've seen Crossroads.

You can tell Ralph had been trained or had some experience playing, he didn't look lost that's for sure. The only one I know of other than Vai being involved was Cooder. The slide work would indicate Cooder, that is his thing. The fret work towards the end could have been Cooder, Stevie Ray or any number of proficient guitarists.

The way soundtracks are chopped up, keeping in mind this was 1986, Stevie Ray could have played fill in/back up stuff pretty easily.

Fun though, the sound was different from vSR, Macchio's sound was more Satriani then SRV

 

I know that Cooder did the remainder of the soundtrack. I bought it wanting the duel at the end. The ST is considered a Ry Cooder album but, sadly, no duel with Vai is on it... the rest of the album is good however, but it would have been great if the duel was included...
