Yes and no. On first down, anything is possible. If its second and two for example, you're likely to see the offense run the ball than pass it. If its second and ten, then you're likely to see a pass than a run.

Can you elaborate on both sentences here? I'm not understanding you clearly and I don't want to misconstrue.

Actually, I recall seeing a statistic that says NFL offenses are overwhelmingly likely to run on second down, especially in 2nd and long situations. The goal is to create a manageable distance on 3rd down.

That's true, you're correct. My point was mostly about teams favoring a specific type of play and I was trying to compare/contrast but your post is right.

what im saying is the D should be scared of play action deep pass on 2 and short or a draw on 2nd and long

the wildcat takes any guess out of the equation. i agree with DJ that it should only be used in early down, favorable distance to give you room for error...not 3 and 6 on the 38 lol

i also think our offense in general tips off our plays too much. we at least ran the ball on the pats with the split backs, which i dont remember seeing yet. i hate the offset single back. it screams pass

But they're really not because its unlikely. They account for it but don't expect it to happen. Also, team tendencies are included in this.

That wasn't the right time lol.

I dunno, I don't see tip offs. The offset single back set doesn't scream pass to me. I think it all depends on what's going on in the tackle box as well as down and distance.

I think a lot of what we do on offense is based on constraint theory .

A: Its brighter than it was before Sparano got here

B: I think we will evolve on offense, I truly believe Henning retires in the off season, Lee most likely will take over.

C: The defense will get better, but we need LBer depth and more speed.

D: Special teams needs to be coached up.

I think we will be good for a bunch of years.

Disclaimer: If Sparano is fired like people want or think, we will be taking steps backwards

    So...

    1. Henne is a young QB with limitations in his mental game.
    2. Call plays to minimize the impact of this (runs, playaction with busted coverage, rollouts to reduce reads, simplify route combination reads for easier progression, play him from under center so he can read safeties better, etc.)
    3. Other desirable plays or offensive tactics are lower priority than implementing 2.
    4. Obtain Brandon Marshall (still need QB friendly TE to further elevate this constraint)
    5. We don't know yet whether the constraint will be moved enough, i.e. Henne can perform well enough given the conditions created.
