What if, Penny is injured, and White ran the WC well?

Discussion in 'Miami Dolphins Forum' started by padre31, May 17, 2009.

Pennington goes down, White is successful as a WC Qb, who replaces Pennignton?

  1. Chad H. he knows the offense and is the future

Vince Young won two Rose Bowl games at Texas, also two games in which he threw the ball very well. He also had a good completion percentage and didn't have a lot of turnovers. The issue with him was coming from a spread offense and how he would adapt to a pro offense IMO. He didn't have the best mechanics either but as far as college, which you point out above, he played pretty well in those two years.

What happen to stats don't matter? And, where'd you get 44 and 37? I have 44 and 28.

As for the Wonderlic, I'm not a big believer in those scores. Poor numbers have given us QB's like Dan Marino and Steve McNair while some of the higher scores have given us the likes of Matt Leinart, Kyle Boller and Rex Grossman. Also, I believe that Akili Smith scored a 27.

Throwing a nice ball with poor mechanics? Either way, his 11 on the wonderlic as well as a lack of basic maturity pretty much sank him to the third string.

My mistake, it is 44-28, but he rushed for 38 td's.

It was very predictive in this case, Young did wander away last year...

Same question as my last comment.

You view that as a negative?

Are you suggesting he's a crappy passer on the field because of his wonderlic score? As far as I know, he knows the playbook, he just fails to execute and then he got injured, which lead to Kerry Collins playing well in his place.

Had to vote Henne, White would likely stay in his role as WC QB and Henne would take over as #1, he knows the playbook a lot better than White and it would give Sparano a chance to learn what he's got with Henne, while White continued to get reps in the WC.

    ???

Merely correcting my mistake error, as for positive or negative, for Young it was a negative apparently.

    1. Yep, Norm Chao had to install a High School offense for him
    2. That was to tough and Chao was fired
    3. He sort of cracked up last yr, he broke team rules and was eventually benched.

White ran a 4.57, slighlty faster then Young's time, and he was more of a passer then Young, and even with Young, the Titans did make the playoffs one year.

    Sorry, my misunderstanding.

Your correct on the playbook. However, his lack of execution of passes was because he wasn't a good QB, not because of his smarts IMO.

Don't know why you brought in forty times?

More of a passer than Young in which way? Pat White didn't throw many NFL run routes from the spread from what I've seen. I mostly see post routes and screens from Pat White.

They did make the playoffs behind Vince Young but moreso because of their defense, which was fifth in the league overall.

I see them going hand in hand in VY's case.

General information for other people who may read this thread.

Chart every throw, then a more accurate picture can be developed...j/k..

I've watched both, VY seemed to me to have a cannon arm, White's arm was "okay" he did appear to me to have more touch and got the ball out more quickly.

Close ones, blowouts, trick plays, it's hard to win in this league.

Not sure I understand this, to be honest. How does the playbook affect how he throws a ball to his target?

To each his own; I feel that White has an underrated arm. I think he can stretch the field pretty well.

Because in the NFL, the Qb has to read the defense and throw to a spot, some defenses are to good to throw to only the "wide open" receiver, because VY's brain and arm were not working as a unit, he never quite grapsed that anticipation and feel for the passing game.

VY never made it past the "thrower' stage, he had no change up.

    Indeed, to each their own.

Completely agree with you; I somehow forgot about reading defenses, my fault.

I don't think I was clear alen, he has to make the read, then throw the ball with the right touch/speed/anticipation and it could be a function of his athleticism and ability to use his arm, and it could be a function of purely intellectual capacity...

I'm soo not a Qb Coach, Adamprez would know.

What in your mind would make White a lesser Qb prospect?

    No worries, I understood.

Agreed on Adam knowing a lot, I enjoy his posts.

I think that he hasn't attempted all the throws that he will see in the NFL is a knock on him and I think he's pretty bad at looking off the defender. I looked at Mark Sanchez on tape and it was the same thing; he was the worst of the bunch actually.

The best quarterback will play PERIOD.

I'm not sold on Henne as a QB, nor am I sold on White. It will depend who looks better in practice, preseason, and how the team is going overall.

LOL about Ronnie taking over as a QB. You can't be serious. it's a wonder that Ronnie made that TD pass to Fasano b/c after that Ronnie sucked on every wildcat pass attempt. you're comparing apples to oranges. I'm trying to compare a tangelo to an orange. LOL
