Matt Moore finished the season with 8 TDs, 3 picks and a 105.6 quarterback rating, which is third best in the league. I realize that it was only over a span of four games and one playoff loss, which was about the same length of time we saw Osweiler and Flynn play well as backups before becoming the hottest commodity in the offseason. So you'd think that there would definitely be some interest out there. Now, we know for a fact that Matt loves South Florida and his wife does not want to go anywhere, which may be the two biggest factors in this whole equation. But does he go back to riding the bench for 2 million per year? I'm not so sure. Anyway, I'm looking forward to everyone's opinions.
He's under contract for 2017. Considering his age I would try trading him, and drafting a QB. But I'm not sure how many teams would give up a valuable pick for a 32 year old. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I don't think there's a team in the league that goes after Moore for a starting position, especially after the playoff game.
I don't think Matt Moore actually wants to be anywhere other than Miami, and while I think it would be unfair to say he's happy being a backup, I do think he's content in that role. He's had opportunity in the past to leave the team in search of greener pastures and a chance to really compete for the starting job elsewhere, but he's chosen to stay here in those instances when it was 100% clear Tannehill would be the starter no matter what. So for what it's worth I think he stays here because he wants to be the backup QB for the Miami Dolphins and the team very clearly also feels the same way. I can't say I blame the guy either. Making 2M a year for a job with very little pressure where you are now a bit of a cult hero. I'd take that in a heartbeat.
I don't mean to suggest one specific team was after him, but simply that he has been here for 6 years and during that span he signed multiple 2-3 year deals: in 2011, 2013, and 2016. During that time frame he was basically a FA 3 times and if he wanted to compete for a starting job he certainly could have moved on to a different club with a legit chance of competing. There have been dozens of such situations over the last 6 years.
I am worried about option 5. Retirement. Just had a new baby, older, been knocked around a lot in his career, took a devastating blow in playoffs....worried he hangs em up.
I don't think he comes back for whatever is on his contract. He either renegotiates or retires. I don't see him playing elsewhere based on the South Florida/wife combo.
Perhaps I'm wrong but I was always under the impression that he turned down several potential opportunities elsewhere to stay here. Just thinking back at the QB situations for teams over the last 6 years, Matt Moore being what his is, I can't imagine many of those teams not being interested in Moore to see what he's got. He's always been regarded as one of the best, if not the best, backup QB in the NFL.
You know, I almost made that an option...I could see that happening since he's a huge family man and his wife was probably screaming bloody murder after the game because of that massive hit.
I was told directly from a member of the team that he was in serious talks with two different clubs this last round of free agency, but decided to stay in Miami. There were no formal offers though because Moore said no thanks. Both teams were offering him a "chance to compete for the starting job", which meant he was probably going to be a backup. He also considered leaving in 2012 for the chance to start with another club but his wife talked him out of it, mainly due to his history with concussions. I've heard that from dozens of sources.
I don't remember anything in the news about Moore turning down a chance to start, but like I said, I could be wrong. I remember Logan Thomas last season saying that he turned down at least one offer because he thought he could earn the back-up role.
Moore was in Dallas to be the backup for Romo, before signing a contract he had a conversation with Gase and they both decided it was a good idea for him to sign in Miami for very small contract.
From the sheer upside alone - hell ya they lucked out. EDIT: I read they were going to draft a guy anyway, so the signing wouldn't have affect that. I still would have found it interesting to see what MM8 could do behind that O-line and those weapons.
Keep Moore, Keep Daughty, Keep Tannehill (restructure deal). BUT, draft a qb every draft. It's the Patriots way
Wasn't there some sort of feature a year or so ago about Matt and his wife buying a mansion in Cali to retire to? Matt's a nice guy, but he really should go at this point. While he is an experienced vet backup option, he's one of the two longest tenured offensive players, along with Pouncey. I'm hoping he either retires or we release him. I'd like to see Doughty as the backup and draft or sign a younger guy to develop. As I posted in the other thread, follow Belichick's lead there. Draft and turn over those backup QB spots as often as possible until you hit a lottery winner.
With the hits he's taken over the years I hope he leaves the game healthy and able to enjoy his kids. If I were him, I'd retire.
Yeah, here is his 1.5M mansion/retirement home... or maybe just a real estate investment... http://www.latimes.com/business/rea...-hotprop-matt-moore-house-20140729-story.html
He bought it for twice what the previous owner paid and will likely sell it for 2-3 times what he paid...
I thought the same thing. Must be near the eastern Cali border or something. That would cost more than $1.5 here in WI...lol
See... I improved your knowledge and user experience with that link... Cuchulainn = good poster. lmao...
Dont know much about the real estate market, but that sounds like some damn good value right there. Also, the link says it's Zack Morris' old house.
That you did! Who knew Matt Moore would have a real estate article written about him and it would come in handy. Props to you!
Just a thought - but people must consider the possibility that Tanny needs ACL surgery. Then it increases Moore's value to the team even more.
Matt has a nice comfy spot on the bench in S FL making millions. I think he will happily return there.
