Ahh, gotcha. I am extremely grateful that I have broadband now, because so many new games are the same way. Within the last two years, it seems that almost any major release has a big patch before you ever play it.

Still on my retro gaming kick. Last game I played was Alex Kidd in Miracle World on the Sega Master System. Actually surprisingly good.

Working on another called "Cloud Master"

Playing new Star Wars - Fallen Order. Really good graphics. Game play is basically Uncharted meets SW. story has potential. hopefully keeps developing

That's good to hear! And that's the exact analogy that I had read previously, which as a big fan of both, is highly appealing. It'll be the next new game that I get, likely for the Holidays. Or else I'm buying it for myself after New Years!

I had Fallen Order preordered for awhile. really looked forward to this one.

My next three will be Jedi, Biomutant, and the FF7 remake. Then at some point, perhaps Cyberpunk, depending on how it turns out. But not at launch.

I won't be buying Cyberpunk until an inevitable PS5 version is released.

HZD is the only one of those I've played. It is extremely excellent.

Beat Saber and Robo Recall.

God of War is 25 hourish long. I would go with that one to break the open world routine. After that, you can't go wrong with either of HZD or N:A.

Nier is more of an insular experience if I had to describe it. It's a moody, sort of melancholy action game. But it's super unique.

HZD is the opposite. Really cool world-building, much bigger scale, action is much bigger (which isn't always a good thing). You can't go wrong, they're all good.

I got God of War, Ace Combat 7 (the main game I'm playing right now), and Persona 5 for $53.

If you like the action in Nier then I highly recommend Devil May Cry 5 as well.

I played one of the earlier Devil May Cry games. Either 2 or 3. Much too fast paced, gogogo for me, and that was about 15 years ago! :chuckle: My fingers and brain aren't wired for that. HZD and AC Oddessy pretty much stretch me to my limits.

On another note, I decided to finally buy a PS+ membership when they were on sale, so I can game online for the first time since 2005. Back in those days, I was absolute rubbish online with Madden. My record was something like 2-50, so my expectations were pretty low. However, I'm actually doing great now! I'm 5-0, and have had three other losers quit on me when they fell behind. Part of it is that I'm able to use my custom playbook, which is huge, and the other part is that I think people are honestly surprised that I run the ball and don't throw deep all day. Realistic football is such a shock that they don't know how to defend it.

I've been playing a ton of Red Dead Redemption 2 since it released on PC. I'm still on Chapter 2. Just taking my time and enjoying it.

I'm hopping between Ace Combat 7 and Zodiac Age still.

Played a party game with friends over the weekend on Nintendo Switch called Heave Ho. It was $10 and I highly recommend it. Nice couch co-op game. We played it with 4 people but the sweet spot is 3 IMO.

I think I might pop Madden 95 in on Sega Genesis lol

Some months back I took it upon myself to start collecting old games and systems.

I'm really disenchanted with the current generation and the microtransactions, nickel and diming, half finished games.

One day I realized there are literally thousands of great games in the past so I started collecting them. The great thing is most are pretty cheap, unless they are super rare orsomething. .

I'm grateful to have grown up along side the evolution of home gaming the last 40 years. It allows me to appreciate it all on a deeper level than kids today ever could. But I'm very, very happy with today's single player offline games.

I agree. Most of those old games were 1 hour experiences made 20 hours due to just being ridiculously hard.

If you want to stay away from micro transactions go to the indi games. A lot of them are like the old school games, just much better and more fun or rogue-like.

See, I personally prefer the difficulty level of old games. I'm actually insanely good at games, it's one of my few talents. I'm not using that as a bragging point it comes from being a loner where I read and play games a lot LOL

I feel like today's games dont really provide any challenge or skill building (speaking generally, not about all games). It ends up being 40 hours of hand holding sometimes where the real game is multi-player which I've never been incredibly fond of.

I will say Sports games dont age well. I just play Madden 95 to use Marino, Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice and the legends of old lol

That said, it's all preference. I dont necessarily expect people to agree or disagree, it's just taste. I like the idea of being challenged at every moment, the thrill of fighting against getting the game over. Some people hate that though, and I get it. If you dont have time to build the skills up the games can be incredibly frustrating.

I also love old school arcade games like Galaxians, Centipede, Donkey Kong ect so I'm just a fan of that era of gaming where arcade ports were rampant.

Plus I do like some newish RPG because difficulty levels havent changed much in the genre and there are quality of life improvements.

My PS4 has probably been plugged in for a couple hours in the last 6 months, which I never thought would happen.

I do recognize there are some really great games being made these days, I'm just talking generally about the whole industry. When I play a new game though it's usually a RPG or Indie title.

PS: The NES controller does suck. Honestly it's my least favorite of any of the old systems overall. It's a shame the Sega Master System never took off here because IMO it's a much better console and the controller doesnt cut your hands open lol

Despite my long love of gaming, I've never been very good at anything that requires quick action. Back in the 90s and early 2000s when I would play sports and fighting games against friends, I was always getting my butt kicked.

My style has always been to play games that are typically more slow paced, and not demanding in that way. The stories, the exploration, the character building and world building and the strategy are what's important to me. I'm not ashamed to say that even in games that I've played through a few times on standard difficulty, I sometimes have to switch to easy mode to get through a tough section. It is what it is.
