After a wait that ended up being much longer than I had even anticipated, I'm finally getting comcast to come hook me up on Tuesday. When that happens, I'll not only be able to game online should I choose, but I'll be able to update my ps4 for the first time since August of 2017, update 8 games for the first time ever, and get dlc for a few others that I've been waiting on. Almost like getting a bunch of new titles.

I'll also update the ps3 for the first time in four years. Hopefully it doesn't melt, lol.

It's worth it. So far, this is the true DQ8 successor I've waited 12 years to play.

Playing Yakuza 0 on PC...very fun game with great story line only 19.99 and plays like a 60 dollar title.. Its an RPG but more than that kind of hard to explain but I am very happy with the purchase.

So, I reloaded FFXV today. At first, there was a 5 GB update, and I thought sure sounds good......but then the 29gb one came next, lol. I haven't gotten into it to check things out and start over yet.

So, apparently I didn't pay attention before and didn't realize that Sony now requires you to buy a PS+ membership to play any game online. Screw that. I'll keep doing things the way I have been.

Some stuff is still free like Fortnite and Warframe, but the majority is locked behind the subscription.

the PS1 Classic doesn't look that good. No analog sticks and they've only announced a quarter of the games.

I agree. Pretty lame. And most of the games they've talked about aren't good. The difference between that and the Nintendo consoles is that Nintendo dominated and controlled the market in those days, and all the best games were theirs. When Sony started, it became a lot more third party stuff.

Sony absolutely dominated the market during the 5th(PS1) and 6th(PS2) console generations. PS1 games that should be on this thing are Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 1-3, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon. Some of these games have recently remakes so they might not be included for that reason.

Edit: forgot Tomb Raider and both Legacy of Kains (Soul Reaver being the better of the two)

Holy cow, you missed out. Symphony of the Night is one of my favorite PS1 games, Konami completely ripped off Super Metroid and the result was magical. PS1 also had Square on board, so in addition to FF7 there was FF8 and FF9, FF Tactics, Xenogears and Vagrant story to name a few.

I've never been into fast paced action games. The FF games have always been a staple of mine, going back to the NES. I moved to the PS1 in part for FF7. I didn't play Xenogears, but I did play Xenosaga 1 & 2. Otherwise, in the PS1 & PS2 days, I was big into sports games, GTA and clones, and Gran Turismo. My wife was big into Kingdom Hearts, Okami, Psychonauts, and Katamari. And that's when we started playing the Lego games, starting with Star Wars.

I picked up Dragon Quest this week, and its fantastic. I've played 10 hours in the last three days, and just got to the point where I have three followers. The choice to go with the anime style graphics was fantastic, and they've done wonders with it. Best I've ever seen with the cell shading, and everything is 3D and has weight.

For me, its a ton of nostalgia, bringing me back to when I first started playing RPG games 30 years ago, but on today's consoles with updated graphics and sound. I've read reviews where people don't like the turn based style and find it foreign, but for me its like putting on a comfortable old jacket that fits the same as it always has. I'm really enjoying it, but I'm trying to figure out how to gain more control over the companions in battle.

EDIT: Figured out while exploring the menu how to take full control of companions. They really burried it!

Caved and bought Black Ops IV. I like their take on battle royale. Popular maps from the series melded together in a pretty cohesive fashion. In the second game I remember stumbling into Kino Der Toten (sp?) and immediately getting assaulted by zombies! Decent gameplay and plenty of nostalgia.

I'm about 45 hours into Dragon Quest XI, and am about to cross what's clearly a big spot in the game's story. I'm not sure if I'm almost to the end, or starting the third act, but I hope there's a lot of game left. I have a lot of spots on my skill trees I'm interested in unlocking still.

I have been disappointed in the game's equipment system though. Almost every time I get the plans and/or materials to build a new piece, the ones I've come across to buy are already better. And given how compact the character's stats are, and how little they progress every level, the tiny bumps from one piece to another aren't worth worrying about all that much anyways. I'm also sad that almost none of the equipment changes the character's appearance. That seems woefully outdated for a game today, even one that harkens back to older titles.

If you're at a very green place with a rainbow bridge, you're at the end of Act 1. There are three acts if you play everything the game has to offer.

I took all six orbs to the World Tree, and went through the events that followed. After playing a while longer, I realize that there was in fact a lot more game to go.

You're in Act 2. Act 3 is optional, you have to seek it out. But it can be as long as Act 2, depending on what you do.

I ordered a NES Classic this morning from Amazon "for my kids" for the Holidays. It'll be fun to introduce them to the games that I enjoyed when I was a bit older than they are. I know that my older daughter will love a lot of them.

And of course I'll spend time with it too :king:

I decided to purchase the first expansion for Civ 6 when it was on sale, and I'm glad that I did. While it does add a few civs to the game along with their leaders, and a handful of wonders and buildings, the best feature is the ability to use governors in your cities and level them up as you go. It adds another level of strategy that I like. And maybe more importantly, it seems to really fix some things under the hood with the game as well, and it runs the way that I had expected it would from the start. Its not perfect, but its a lot better. Really, its basically a really big patch that you have to pay for that makes it a fine game. Should have included all of this from the start. If you own the base game, and want to get the most out of it, I really recommend it.

But even more exciting is the news released today about the next expansion, titled Gathering Storm, which will be released on Feb 14. This one adds a ton of new things that have never been in a Civ game before that sound extremely appealing.

Check into a Raspberry Pi 3 running Retropie. You get pretty much an emulator for pretty much every console from Commodore 64 up to N64. Hooks to through HDMI to your TV. Freaking sweet. I love mine.

Well, I spent a couple months with a crazy work schedule, but things are back to normal now. I picked up a PS4 Pro during the Black Friday sales. Not a huge leap, even combined with our 4K TV, but games do look better and run smoother.

No Man's Sky keeps getting big updates (on version 1.76 now) and it really is a NEW game in about every sense of the word. I'm still putting hours into playing it with each update adding more things to do and/or discover. Since I got Red Dead 2 with the PS4 Pro bundle, I need to find some time to play it too. I may wait to even start it till I buy and complete Spider-Man.

The PSVR is really starting to shine, with games like Astro Bot and Beat Sabre showing how much fun VR gaming can be even for more casual gamers. Those are not my normal type of games, but the fun factor is really high.

Yes, another game I never really played before, but it has pretty much ruined non-VR racing games for me. :)

A Borderlands 2/Beat Saber PSVR bundle is supposed to hit later this month, at $249 if the $100 off normal price pattern holds. I think Beat Saber is the casual gamer game PSVR needed. My brother-in-law was over earlier this week and though he has tried several PSVR games, nothing really held his attention until he played Beat Saber. I told him to try one song, and he played for a 1/2 hour, till he had to leave for an appointment.

Beat Saber has that, 'just ONE more try/song' gameplay. No motion sickness to worry about either, as things come toward you but you don't really need to do more than leaning to one side or another. 'You chop blocks up with light sabers" sounds silly, but once you try it....

I started AC Odyssey yesterday, and I'm really enjoying it. I chose to play as the female character. As expected, it looks and feels a whole lot like Origins. I'm not too far in yet - I've completed the first four or five quests that you're given to start the game, and I'm exploring and leveling up a little bit before I take on what looks to be the first boss battle. So far, so good!

I also bought Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, after it went on sale for $15. Patience pays off! But I'm not going to start it until I'm done with AC.

I've been playing ArmA 3 much less lately. Part of that is due to a lack of time (hello, lack of forum activity), but also because my interest in the game is finally waning down to dangerously low levels. I'm trying to drum up interest in another game, and honestly I just can't. I'm going to take a look through my Steam backlog and start picking out single player games I've never touched. I think Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is up first...
