I’m not trying to compare the qbs, I was a big fan of Murray coming out, and Tua, they’re different of course, I’m just telling you you don’t know the importance of being a game manager at this point in the games evolution. You still have a perception of what it is, need to update your software.

Tua used his legs twice, once to convert a key first down and the other to scramble and throw a td outside the pocket side arm.

the rest of his game was exceptional any way you slice it.

Little tip for you when it comes to you lessening the achievements of Tom Brady, don’t, it makes you look stupid.

I like Waddle fine, but man passing on Sewell was a mistake. That dude kills people. They better be taking jacket measurements. That guy is a tone setter.

I think some of our draft woes are a little overstated, but it hasn't been great. The Lions are a team that has maximized the draft and the extra assets they got. They have drafted legit stars, tone setters and playmakers on both sides of the ball at all positions. We mostly just draft guys.

I don't care how the rest of the season goes, but Grier is not him.

Tua's conversion does not compare to what Murray does with his legs... LMAO come on man...

Every Dolphin fan held their breath and hoped Tua would not die trying to get 3 or 4 yards in the middle of the field.... They are not the same... Not apples to apples.

As for Tom Brady.... I will say what I want, when I want.... I neither want your advice, nor will I listen to it. But thanks anyways...LOL

Back to the game manager... It seems that you want to move around....

First there was anger and resentment when I first dropped the term "Game Manager" on Tua.

You specifically poked the fire and brought up Murray's name and the term Game Manager to churn this all back up on top of the bed of coals (So it can burn hot again.)

Now we are seeing people say that a game manager is a great thing.... LMAO.... I mean you could see it that way.

But if that is the case... Then why was there so much anger when i first used the term to describe Tua just a short time ago?

    Why move the goal posts?

And for the record... I do not see the term "Game manager" as a kiss of death...(But it does limit the Dolphins.) There are QB's that can buy time in the pocket... Take hits... scramble... use their legs to win games... QB's that make up plays and improvise based on what is in front of them... Mahomes, Jackson, Murray, Burrow, Allen, Hurts, Rodgers in his prime.... Then there are good QB's that play at a high level. (But they are clearly a step below these top Qb's Note I did not include Mayfield or Love in that first group because they have shown flashes... they still have more to prove... Ditto for Qbs like Williams, Daniels, Stroud.

Tua is not tough, and he cannot win games with his legs... He is a smart and accurate Qb that gets the ball out quickly... He has a limited arm...but he gets the most out of the talent he has. I think with a better team he could be a winner... Sadly we are not the 49ers or the Lions...

Tua is a lot like Ryan Tannehill when he got to the Titans... Tannehill was crazy accutate, making smart plays... And he almost got to the superbowl... But in the playoffs against an elite QB he was not capable of playing at that higher level in the moment and taking over a football game. Despite his cannon arm, and decent mobility. Tannehill was playing for a few years in Tennessee at an extremely high level... Leading the NFL in several passing categories... Top 10 QB yes... Elite, no... Tannehill was the game manager in that offence passing the ball just enough to keep defences honest so Henry could run wild. Tannehill was not the guy that was going to outplay Jackson or Mahomes consistently. He gave those Titans teams a chance to win... but the Titans would never be the favourites against teams like the Ravens or Chiefs.... Beating them would be something of an upset.

And I say this as the former president of the: "I love Ryan Tannehill Fan Club."

It is okay for half of this board to Love Tua... and accept his limitations. You can do both things at once. Nobody will explode.... It is going to be okay.

Ugh, I’m not comparing Tuas legs with Murray’s lol

    jeez, why do I this

Being a game manager is a compliment for Tua as imo he didn’t show that trait the last couple years , its one game but it shows some intellect for the game situation and ability to convert in critical situations.

He did so a couple of times which is also something he hasn’t mastered yet, but last week was encouraging, that’s all.

and being the self anointed president of the Ryan tannehill fan club tells me all I need to know about your ability to evaluate the position.

You still miss the point.... As much as I liked tannehill I could say he was not elite.. and had limitations... This this the opposite of how many here talk about tua... They are in No way willing to listen to any form of criticism. They are unwilling to say he is limited. I liked tannehill especially when he got to the titans... He was the team leader... Played tough as nails for them.. put up fantastic numbers and they came within a couple of plays from a Superbowl appearance... Even with his great numbers and the play of the titans on the field I can criticize him and accept that he was a step below mahomes, Jackson, Allen etc ..

The term game manager means you are smart.. it does not mean you are elite.... Mahomes is not a game manager...neither is Jackson they can make plays up on the fly... There is no defence that can contain them or stop them with any success. They can take over a football game and make plays all by themselves...

As good as tannehill was for the Titans he was not taking over many football games.... Ditto for Tua here in Miami.

Game manager is not the compliment you think it is.

Is there a difference between a game manager and…a field general?

And what I’m saying is the term has changed.

You saying tannehill isn’t elite is like me saying the sun is hot.

I can’t trust your judgement on evaluation of the position as you’ve already indicted yourself

For the board I’m not comparing Tua to Mahomes or Jackson legs playmaking ability.

I have my issues with the player as he wasn’t managing the game like I thought he should over the years and he wasn’t using his legs like I thought he at least could relative to his projected body weight and skill set, not on Mahomes or Jackson’s level obviously, but to use them is smart situations.

I’m gonna let the season play out, we’ll evaluate Tua with the rest.

at this point though his game last week was not just some game manager game, and if you believe that then I digress on the topic

Here is my answer... Mahomes, Allen, Jackson are not "just" game managers... Because they can take over almost any game atvany time. Game manager is not me saying he sucks... You have to be smart and patient to just take what the opposing defenses give you. Tua has grown since drafted and you could look at that as a positive in terms of being a game manager .... Some here took it as an offense. If you are only a game manager it is a criticism...but not the end of the world

Look up the first couple of seasons tannehill put up in Tennessee and compare them to tua's best year... Tannehills numbers are better.... So when you make dead pan comments about tannehill... Remember Tua as of yet has reached the same level of performance as tannehill did in a restrictive offence in Tennessee.

    4000+ combined yards
    40+ touchdowns
    Close to 70% completion
QB rating well over a 100
At the top of the league for yards per pass
#1 Red zone offence in football

Tannehill is not perfect.... Once was surrounded by a little talent not with a decent coach he was very good...

To hear you make sarcastic comments. Like that about tannehill and blindly defend tua tells me all I need to know about you.

Tua is better on some things absolutely.

But Tannehill was a freaking piece of granite here, he took so much physical abuse on the field. I wish we could morph Tua and Tannehill into one actually elite player.

As the board can see I’m “ blindly” defending Tua, sure man

and not defending tannehill, lol that’s true

Anyone who compares years by the Qb without context doesn’t have a clue.

You’re out of your league and you will soon figure that out, but continue to lead your fanboys or vice versa

    Context?

They brought in a coach special just for Tua.
Traded for the best wideout in the game and paid him 30+ million a year for Tua..
Drafted a #1 receiver in Waddle for Tua
Brought over Mostert... who broke rushing records as a Dolphin to help Tua and the offence.

Achane and wright were brought in to help Tua and the offence.
Signed Smith so Tua would have a pass catching tight end

Changed the running game scheme so it could be effective without signing a whole new offencive line.

Yeah dude, let's talk about context.

Tua has a dream come true here in Miami in terms of coaches and talent around him on the field.

It is different if we are talking about Fran Tarkenton (Who is a lifelong friend of my wife... Their families used to summer vacation together.) and Comparing his stats against Mahomes in 2020 where he was throwing to Hill and Kelce in their prime...

But I think my argument of Tannehill vs Tua where the difference is only 3-4 years apart holds up pretty damn well.

Maybe that should be your nickname here, Context.

    I will play along... LOL

    When did the term change?

    a couple of weeks ago?

Because the timeline of Tannehill going to Tennessee and Tua starting to play at a high level under McD 2 years apart...

So you are saying in that limited time frame the term conveniently changed to benefit Tua? LMAO

Please expand on this for us.

Well since I didn’t really get a response, I’ll give my two cents worth, but to put things into context, we have to play Mr Peabody & Sherman and hop into the Wayback Machine.

The year is 1984 and a kid named Dan Marino was starting his 2nd season in the league, his first full year as a starter. He had already electrified the league the previous season once he was named the starter and the league was curious to see what Marino would do his sophomore year, and boy did he not disappoint! He broke the single season record for touchdown passes and yards thrown. In fact, he didn’t break those records, he shattered them. There was NO DOUBT who the BEST quarterback in the league was.

Travel 3000 miles west to the city by the bay and the San Francisco 49ers. Joe Montana was entering his 6th season with the 49ers at the helm of the revolutionary new offensive system dubbed the “West Coast Offense”, a system designed on short passes designed to get the ball out quickly to playmakers in order to keep the ball moving. Montana’s actual quarterback stats weren’t anything really showstopping, unlike his soon to be opponent on the east coast in Dan Marino. “Cool Joe” taking what defenses gave him was also dubbed as a field general.

Taking this into consideration, let’s hop back into the Wayback Machine and fast forward to today.

There is no doubt when it comes to athletic talent, Mahomes, Allen and Jackson are on an entirely different level, much like Marino was to Montana and every other quarterback in his day. No other quarterback then, and now can physically compare to the aforementioned quarterbacks.

    However…

As Montana commanded the Weat Coast Offense, Tua commands McDaniel’s offense. Other teams in Montana’s day attempted to duplicate Bill Walsh’s offense with mediocre results. In regards to McDaniel’s offense, no other quarterback has been able to produce the results that Tua has. He commands this offense and does so at a level no other quarterback has been able to do.

Would that not categorize Tua as a field general? I have my opinion, which I base on factual results. I’m curious if others opinions mirror my own and whether or not those are based on facts or emotions.

As much as I like the way back machine and talk of Marino...

Montana was something of a system QB... it was the best system in the league and it was so good that it was copied by almost all teams in football and it is still being copied 40+ years later.

Best coach in the league... Offencive scheme that would change the game. Hall of fame wideout...

The closest you can compare those 49 er teams to the league today would be the Chiefs....

Montana was a good QB... But he did not compare in any way to Marino... I am not saying that to tick off Montana or 49er fans either... It is not a homer statement.... Marino did things on the field no other QB had ever done before. He was changing the game all by himself.

I am not a huge fan of William Tecumseh Sherman... But Like I said... Montana was talented....He was good enough to master the west coast offence... The roster was stacked... The coach was cutting edge and that was enough for them to roll to multiple superbowls.

I am sitting here thinking about Today's game and trying to pick a QB that is really good but a clear step below elite... Montana is Stafford... (maybe I picked him because there was another discussion about Stafford on here this evening...) Stafford when he has good coaching and good weapons wins football games. When he got the hell out of Detroit he got his ring. We all knew he was ring worthy for a lot of years.

Sorry I did not do the whole civil war thing with you... I have read books on it... But being from Canada... LOL it is not my wheelhouse.

Excellent take TDK. Time will tell but I believe Tua is a unique type of talent. Whether we call him a game manager or a field general one thing is clear. This offense needs Tua on the field. We've seen Tua run the offense well without Tyreek or Waddle in the lineup but we've yet to see any success in any game without Tua running the offense. Hopefully they can at least salvage this season with a decent record, reload, and get back on track next year. 2-6 is just too much of a hole to climb out of IMO.

I mean I like your statement.... But... I would amend it slightly... The change that needs to be made is playoff WINS

The purpose is to win... Win in the post season... Anything less is a waste of time.

    And I agree....

If this was a team that won consistently in the playoffs... I would kiss the ring also

Bill Walsh McDaniel is not. It's inappropriate to even be having this specific convo... Tua is nowhere near Montana.

Montana was dominant, whether or not there were a couple down seasons. And I have no idea why those records were what they were, might have nothing at all to do with Montana and the offense

Res, I think you’re missing what I’m trying to say. As Montana mastered Walsh’s offense, so has Tua mastered McDaniel’s. Both are what I would categorize field generals.

Now, you can question some of McDaniel’s play calls. Hell I yell at McDaniel at least once a game to “rip that play out of the playbook”, but no one can really question Tua’s generalship of that offense.

We’ve had 4 other quarterbacks try to run it and they’ve all looked like novices.

Tua showed signs of mastering McD's offence 2 years ago. IMHO

There has been a huge frustration in that many other defences in the league figured it out also... and often McD has been unable to adapt and make changes when opposing teams effectively defend against us.

People who know little about football, and only watch the Dolphins, will come to @Etrius24 conclusion.

Take an objective look around the league and you’ll see defenses have been stifling most high powered offenses all season. The NFL has always been cyclical like this… at least in the last 30 years or so. Offense explodes, defenses learn to stop them, offenses explode, defenses learn… etc etc…
