Well it wasn’t pretty but a win is a win. We’re riding a 3 game winning streak and have 4 winnable games coming up. Reasons for optimism: -Defense is finally playing like how we expected. Only given up 36 points in our last 3 games -Finally saw some life in our running game -Our rookies are playing better every week Reasons for pessimism: -our OL is a mess -still giving up big plays on defense -making too many mistakes to beat good teams What say you?
Man.. I'd bet a good deal of REAL money we end up with a better than 4-13 record! I agree our offense is pretty bad, but a lot of other teams are pretty bad too. You don't think we'll win at least one against the Panthers, Giants, Jets and Saints? Jets we just beat and Giants are 3-6. Nah, absolute minimum realistically IMO is 6-11. I'm not choosing in the poll though because I could see anything from 6-11 to 9-8 being realistic.
We might win four more games, but I would bet that we don't look good on offense in any of them. I cannot be confident in the team when the offense is as bad as they are. Over the past year, the Dolphins are 7-0 when the other team scores 17 points or fewer, and 1-10 when the other team scores 18 or more. (and the one win was the bizarre ending to the game at Vegas last season). The average NFL team scores about 25 points a game, so expecting the Dolphins to win any given week is a bad bet.
Yeah I definitely share the concern about the offense. But even with this offense we should win a few more games this season. So many teams in the NFL are playing like they're willing to let the other team win lol.
Stop crying they're on a three game win streak with a favorable schedule for a possible seven game win streak. Tua completed 81% of his passes for 275 yards. He completed a 65 yard touchdown pass. They put together some sort of running game today. They have looked more competent than they've looked in a while. They're not perfect but obviously as some of today's results. No team is. Stop crying.
Until the offense is at least subjectively mediocre/middle of the pack, I cannot feel good or expect good things. This team has had only two good games on offense in the past calendar year, and both came in losses. That is absurd. You can turn on 90% of the NFL games other teams play and see both teams with a better offense than the Fins. I'm done with every coach and every front office person on this franchise. I cannot expect good things until we make major changes.
Feels like Miami can stumble to another couple wins, but not much more. There is no fixing the OL this year, and the lack of a big RB shows when they face those third/fourth and shorts. Top ten draft pick for the Eagles, but probably #9 or 10. The Bills imploding is fun, but then again watching the Pats rule the division yet again is not.
I think the biggest priority this off-season is fixing this OL. I don’t care if we have to pay an OL coach $5mm a year. I think if we can find a solid LT, move Liam to RT, Davis to LG, then it will get better. Would love to see us draft Tyler Linderbaum too.
I picked 7-10. I just don't see more than 3 wins on this team with how horrendous this offense is. And really I just mean how horrendous this offensive line is. It seems to set a hard limit on what we can do - running game, deep game, complex routes, slow developing plays ... even standard passing plays are a roll of the dice. And they are not getting better. We are going to need 3-4 new starters next year imo.
I don't care about the end result this season. It's utterly pointless IMO. This team is clearly flawed in a major way and until that's fixed we'll never be a strong team and that is the only result I care about. I want the Dolphins to be contenders. Outside of that number are meaningless. If a good result this season means that no changes are made, and it happens again next year, or we continue to be mediocre, then I would rather see us fail this year. If by some miracle this team has what it needs and just needs time then I hope they earn it. I know that might sound non-committal but I'm just not interested in individual wins when this team is failing in general. I would rather see the truth clearly and deal with it rather than meander along clueless why we're perennially bad.
I hear you man. At the same time, for me this season is about seeing our young roster improve and figure out how to win games. If they can start playing good enough to win games throughout the rest of the season, then at least you feel better heading into next season. It sucks that Grier didn’t set us up for success and Flores hasn’t been able to fix our OL. These are the 2 most important pieces heading into next year. I think we need to bring in a true and serviceable LT so we can get people where they belong and Grier better not gut our veterans again.
I honestly feel the OL problems are more down to scheme and coaching. I'm a firm believer in synergy on the OL being the most important thing, and that a line with 5 average players with excellent synergy will, overtime, generally outperform a line with more talent but less synergy. In our case, some more talent would be good, though, because at the worst we need depth, so if we can add better guys and move other guys to depth, that can't hurt.
I voted 9-8...which equates to winning the next 4, losing to the Titans, then spanking the Pats at home in week 17. The Saints in primetime could be another loss though, so I was torn between 9-8 or 8-9.
