Why are most of us discussing other teams Wide Receiver retreads? There are plenty of Undrafted receivers out there that have got to be better then this sad bunch of guys we got. Why are we not working these guys out and upgrading this position? Instead the thought process seems to be we have to always get retreads. With a little effort we could again get our selves a Wes Welker!!! Does anyone have any ideas from College? I am not a college guy, so I wouldn't know where to start. Even if we developed these guys outside of the NFL, and brought them in next year or the year after?!
They said they were working out Stallworth and others, so what makes you think they are not looking at undrafted receivers. Also, what makes you think the other 31 teams are not looking at the same undrafted Wr's? We need help now.
Wes Welker was a retread from another team before we signed him. Also, team rosters are expanded by 10 from when Welker came into the league, which mean teams have likely 1-2 more WRs (on average) so that means 32-48 less guys to bring in after camp starts.
What I am suggesting is this seems like a no brainer, but is being over looked. Who have they worked out. It's not like it is a secret we are weak at receiver. We have been weak at receiver for years. Why do we not have a farm team like baseball or receivers we develop outside of the organization. Receivers that only we know about....ssshhhhh. Instead I am hearing about Gaffney and Stallworth. WTF. These guys didn't make the cut elsewhere but somehow magically will be better for us. The philosophy seems all wrong. You get better by playing/practicing. Of course there are rules about PS and the such. I personally don't know what they are, but it just seems crazy. Whats the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Continuing to workout other teams cuts and expecting to somehow magically pull out a #1 receiver year after year is depressing.
You mean guys like Bess, Pruitt, Wallace, Moore, Fuller, and Hogan who were undrafted that we have tried to develop?
Bro, what are you talking about? We just had 90 guys on our roster, including many UDFA's, 31 other teams did as well....if there was a UDFA WR worth a damn, they were/are on someone roster right now. We are at the point as a very bad team, where a WR on a very good team that didnt have enough cap or positions might fit our needs because we are so bad and have so many needs. We have guys like Hogan, Fuller, and Thigpen.....all undrafted rookies on our roster. Infact, besides Brian Hartline and Nanaee, arent all of our WRs on the roster right now UDFA signees? Moore, Wallace, Bess, Hogan, Fuller? (from this year or previous years)
Bess is a good example. 7/11 I am still on the fence. But hey, he's always open What I am also suggesting is this be a full time thing.....Kind of like a Farm Team.
It's called the practice squad. And I can't recall a time in the past 5 years where we haven't had at least 1 WR on it.
They practice from OTAs until the end of the regular season typically. It's no less development (time wise) than anyone on the regular roster gets.
Sorry man I am still not understanding what you're talking about? How do we develop guys year round, when we are working all season to coach our current roster? Would be cool if there was a minor leagues with a set of coaches to develop guys, but that doesnt exist in the NFL....
Danny Amendola, St. Louis. Doubt they will release him but Fisher is known to like big receivers, Amendola is almost a clone of Welker.
