...as the good, not great WR that he is. Without Moss stretching the field his stats will become pedestrian. I couldn't be happier. This piss ant has been living fat off the hog for years and let it go to his head. **** off Welker. You are average and now everyone will realize it.
It depends on what you mean by fine. I know he's a good WR. But without Moss I expect we'll see the Welker we saw as a Miami Dolphin. Good but not great. I could be wrong, but I don't see him having anywhere near the type of production he had without Moss drawing the bulk of coverage from opposing defenses.
Still is a great trade for the Pats and theres nothing to say they can't draft another deep threat with the 400 picks they have over the next few years. I'd love to have a guy that puts up 80% of the numbers Welker does on our team. This is the only place where I read about how he is just a pedestrian player and wouldn't be anything without Moss, everyone else gives him his due, the guy is a player, theres not too many better on 3rd down than him.
dude has definitely arrived and considering it doesnt look like welker quite has his burst back, for this season at least i think bess has surpassed welker. we'll see next year if welker regains his burst
Welker's still in the top 10 in receptions....coming off a major injury. You can tell he has lost a step and he's still moving the chains. Guys good. I love Bess and the way he moves the chains does remind me a lot of Welker's role in New England, hopefully he can give us what Welker gives them.
It's gonna depend a little how much Tate will stretch the field and/or draw brackets. That said, how do you even double-team a slot receiver let alone White Bess?
He'll be fine. He got almost 700 yards on our team with a crappy team and not starting. He has tom brady now which is good for an extra few hundred yards. Ask Reche Caldwell.
He was rehabbing that knee at the Playboy mansion in the offseason. I think he was in the celeb party pics 3 months in a row.
You're right, he was good with the fins, and he'll still be good with the Pats. He just won't be the reception and yardage machine that he has been with Moss on the field with him. At least, I don't expect he will. I never said he would be awful, or ever was. I expect him to go back to being the type of receiver he was for Miami, which was a pretty good player but not a stud at the position which he has looked like the past 2 or 3 years because of the attention Moss gets from opposing defenses.
He will not produce as much without Moss next to him, he is an excellent slot WR but he has never been and he never will be in that upper ecehelon of WRs.
what welker were you seeing for the fins? he only caught just about everything thrown his way here.he only played "good" enough for the phins that a inner division team gave us a second and 7th for him.it's not welkers fault his coaching staff while a phin was as sharp as a piece of driftwood.welker could have easily caught 100+ balls as a phin had we thrown it to him 100-times.
IMO Welker's stats will still be good. He won't have as much space, so he may not escape as much for YAC, but he also may be targeted more overall. The big impact is that NE's offense as a whole won't be as effective. The offense will still click for drives or even a game, but over the course of the season they will be down.
Disagree. He will still produce. Like raf said, NE's offense won't be as effective but he'll still kill the middle of the field.
7 catches 53 yards. Not bad. But not great. Not getting all that YAC without Moss. Admittedly, tough Baltimore defense. Jury is still out.
No the Jury is not out as he produced on this team with no one on the side of him. Against a Ravens defense without Moss Welker once again is a factor. Wess would of also had the most receptions in a season if not for injuries. The best slot receiver in this game and we gave him away to a division rival......
If you call 53 yards with no score a factor. Sure it helped. My original statement in this thread was that Welker will be exposed as the GOOD not GREAT WR that he was for us. 53 yards against Baltimore is a GOOD performance. Not Great. Those of you arguing vehemently against my statement need to take a careful look at what my "theory" is. For you to matter of factly state the jury is not still out and they he will continue to perform as a GREAT WR is just as foolish as you might think me saying he's not a GREAT WR is. IMHO, the jury is still out. I fully admit, Welker could prove me wrong, but that performance proves nothing.
Welker was better than good for our dolphins team, to the point where Belichek had to snatch him away for his own safety. Welker killed the Patriots when we played them. Their coverage was dictated towards Welker the whole game and it opened up passes for Branch. When did Welker ever score touchdowns? With those tight ends why even go to him in the end zone? He is a chain moving receiver who happens to be great at his role. Time those numbers by two when you factor in that defense, and their focus on him. Game should of been over when Wess made a great punt return.
Are you really Wess? Seriously, you're hyping the guy way too much and all of your points in this post and your last are 100% wrong.
There is no hype in that post. Welker caught 70 balls with half the qb of Brady and even less weapons around him while being a good punt returner. Name the points I am wrong on.... If he continues at a pace of 7 catches and 53 yards a game that averages to 112 receptions and 848 yards for a season. Those numbers would be better than good.
I wasn't questioning whether or not he's good. He is good. However, in your first post you said that he's the best slot receiver in the game and we gave him away. You are wrong on both accounts. I bet he does not get 100 receptions this season now that Moss is gone. He has 11 more games and would need to average 7 receptions every game here on out. I doubt he does that.
I'm with you that Welker is very good, but wouldn't this logic suggest that Welker put up those type of numbers because he was in that same role when Moss was on the team? I mean, if Branch can step in and flourish after being a ghost in Seattle for 3 years, surely a guy like Welker clearly benefited from being that guy moreso than were he to play for another team. He's still a good receiver though, even though at this point I think Bess has surpassed him. Scary to think what Bess would do in New England's offense (shudders)
That's the beauty of the Pats system. Nearly any player can excel there. Look at Edelman, Cassel, Branch, Welker and yes, even Brady. The Pats passing game without Moss is nothing more than a run via short pass system. Short, controlled, high percentage throws. No one has to be great, just disciplined and good enough.
Agreed. That's why for years I was hesitant to label Tom Brady one of the leagues elite. Kinda hard to say that when he's won 3 Super Bowls and an MVP, but I do think the system helped. Then again, Dan Marino was probably the only QB in the history of the game who didn't need a system to be successful.
For those of you keeping score at home, in week 7 against the Chargers Wes Welker had 25 yards on 4 receptions.
Yeah, but Super Bowl wins don't make a great QB, they make great teams. Looks like Welker has reverted back to his good but no where near best slot WR in the game numbers without Moss. So has Brady. This season, w/Moss in 4 games he had 9TD's, 2INT's, w/ a 110 QBR, 253 ypg, and 71% completion rating. After Moss in 3 games he has 3TD's, 2 INT's, w/ an 83 QBR, 225 ypg and 59% completion rate. What sucks is that the Pats defense is playing like they did 7-10 years ago.
which is quite weird because Moss didnt' do squat all year. To be fair he did play SD which has what, #1 defense, and Baltimore.
Moss just has to run his route and he's more productive than most WR's in the NFL. His presence demands double teams which will in turn make the other WR's and the QB better. Hence Welker's and Brady's numbers before and after Moss.
Brady before Moss == 3 Superbowls Brady with Moss == 0 Superbowls. Those are the numbers that matter.
Brady with top 5 defense== 3 Super Bowl wins Brady without top 5 defense== 0 Super Bowl wins Those are the real numbers that matter.
