EPA and win probability were invented in 1970-1971 by Virgil Carter and Robert Machol!!! And no one has "solved" the 4th down problem because we don't know how teams perform when they start adjusting to new play calling strategies. Also, I remember very distinctly from long ago this guy was calculating correlations of passer rating and other stats with win% by combining data across many seasons, not taking into account the year-by-year increase in passer rating. That approach inaccurately decreases the calculated correlations. Guy has no idea how to take "context" into account even in the simplest cases with statistics, and he's trying to sell this idea that he knows how to take scheme (which is MUCH more difficult to analyze) into account with Hill? Again, he thinks way too highly of himself. Not credible at all, especially given the clearly false and misleading claims he makes about what he's accomplished in sports statistics.

He has to throw the ball on the ground or on the sidelines.. or just take a dive.. i rarely see him throw it away, he wants to make a play on every possession and i like that but sometimes no play is better..
