Okay, so I'm a faithful Safari user, but recently it has been hanging up and running extremely slow for me. I'm lazy, and rather than reinstall it (which I need to do), I instead have been trying other web browsers. I've used Firefox in combination with some extensions, it's not bad. I'm currently using Google Chrome, which I've only used for literally about 10 minutes, but so far I like it. Does anyone have any feedback on Chrome (positive or negative)? Is there another browser (say, Opera) that I should be considering?
K-meleon is a quick browser but has no add ons or anything. I wouldn't use chrome because I don't like google. Opera is good. .... what OS are you on?
I'm been testing Chrome for about a few months right now. It feels a bit faster than Firefox though that could be because of all the extensions on FF. It's simple and quick-loading I gotta admit that and other than one or two little programming quirks and lack of a feature or two, it's enough for me to use it 50-50 with Firefox. Safari is ludicrously slow on non-Macs. In fact, I use solely Firefox on my Macbook, which is even more than my gaming PC. Chrome may come out for Macs so I may keep an eye on that.
I'm beta testing the new version of Safari today (Safari 4) ... it's a pretty significant difference, but one thing I have immediately noticed is how similar it looks to Chrome ... so I have to ask, who's ripping off who?
k-meleon is a no nonsense fast, lightweight browser intended for... browsing. it doesn't have any of the add-ons that make firefox "firefox". You can get it here: http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/ Opera is similar to Firefox.. it was the first browser to come out with the "speed dial" feature; which is basically a screen that gives you the sites you visited the most. It also has "mouse gestures". I don't use those but basically you can use your mouse in an "L" shape movement and you can go backwards or forwards on a page.. I'm sure there's more. With firefox you need to add these. With Opera they are standard. http://www.opera.com/ Of course they all claim to be "the fastest browser". In my experience it has to be either K-Meleon or Firefox that are the fastest. I've never used Chrome. But if you're looking to switch just to switch I'd say keep the one you're using now and just download another one and take it for a test drive. After all they all get you online well enough which is the point of a browser in the first place. I've never used safari.
There's a button now in the bookmarks toolbar that will display the top 16 sites that you visit, based on your browsing history, so you can click to them at a glance. It's actually really handly, at least for me. And Private Browsing, as I mentioned in another thread, is great to have. Though I do like how Google Chrome's "Incognito" window looks and functions.
Thanks. Downloading K-Meleon now. I downloaded the English version 1.5.2 en-US. I assume thats the right one? lol.
Whatever is the most recent. It's not developed anymore which means that there will be no upgrades/updates/new releases. K-meleon is probably best for your system based upon the ram you told me you had, btw.
If you are looking for the functionality and add-on support of Firefox in Chrome, then you are going to be disappointed. If you are looking for a speedy browser that is just for surfing, then Chrome is great. I like using Opera, Chrome and Firefox. Who says you have to use one browser? All have pros and cons. Opera is worth a try.
I love chrome, i been using it since it came out. It is fast and works great. My biggest problem was when you saved images it never remembered the last spot you saved it, so if you were saving a lot of pics and wanted to put it in the same folder, you would have to keep manually put it in the folder your self, but they fixed that problem. Other Browsers may have add ons but if you dont need add ons, like me then Chrome is the best browser. It is so fast and loads fast too. If your pages crash, it gives you the option to restore it. It has the home page function where it has the top 9 pages you used...
I've ran into an issue with Chrome and I was wondering if you guys could help me. It runs great and I love it but my PMs are never updated. Like I read one and then I go back and its gone. It only shows yesterday's PM's. Anybody know how to fix that?
I know! I saw it and then accidently closed it out. Went back to see it and was thinking WTF. Refreshing didn't work.
I use Avant Browser, which is IE based but much improved. In my experience (on my computer anyway) its MUCH faster than FireFox.
I just updated to Google Chrome Beta, and now they have a full screen mode! its awesome! i know Opera has the same thing, where its full screen and no bar, fire fox has it but you still have the address bar, and ie i believe the same way...i love it like this, with just full screen
I've never used Google Chrome. From what I've heard GC isn't as customizable as other browsers. Thats one thing about Avant that you have to take time to arrange it the way you want it to look but it takes like 15 seconds.
You mean like when you press the F11 key? Pretty much every browser does that. In Firefox and IE, it waits 2 seconds before it then removes the top bar completely. Push your mouse up there and it comes back.
Question about Opera: I'm running it right now to test it out and everything is great except the badges under the user names are presented horizontally instead of vertically so the posts are like stretched out wayyyy to the right. Is there anyway I can change that? If not, I'm going to Google Chrome, lol.
there's a firefox 3.5 now. not sure how old it is. just downloaded it today and it feels faster than 3.1. edit: ok, it came out on tuesday.
