We Will Contend in 2010! Reality check: would need a windfall of extraordinary events to occur to duplicate last years results. We are in year two of a four year project. It will take a full three seasons to basically rebuild. The odds are totally against us duplicating our 2008 season, let alone improving on it in 2009. Its not just filling in holes, its about coaching up new players & putting the finishing touches on systems of play. We're an easy draft & free agency & another years' experience away from the big enchilada. Another moot point: we go no where until establishing a Franchise QB. How long will that take? Can Pennington nail it definitively in 2009? Or will Henne emerge as the starter midway through the season? What about WildCatPat? Only the playing field holds the answers to these questions & the experience required to consistently play at the next level. Having said that: my personal expectations are for an exciting season with 8 or 9 wins & all close games played hard to the last minute of every game. There is still much to do before we can compete consistently at the highest levels. Of course, I would love to be proven wrong. Would be thrilled with our second perfect season in 2009, but I honestly think we will contend in 2010. Competition is the Elixir of Success! Let them compete and enjoy the process.
Not sure where year 3 of a 4 year process comes in. I agree it will be a tough battle this year, but it is every year. I will say this; teams will worry about playing us much more this year than they have in several.
I don't think they are all gonna be very close games. I really expect us to surprise a couple of opponents like we did the Pats last year.
from your lips to God's Ears it's exciting to contemplate the many positive possibilities anything can happen! what I posted about is probabilities I'm in agreement with the Orca-5 & our ground game. We're solid. however, once past that you've got to start calculating optimistically i.e. strong dose of wishful thinking Nothing is impossible if everything falls perfectly in place & we're lucky happened in 2008 & can happen in 2009, but it probably won't
We'll also compete in 2009. we had a great draft and if our Rookies taken with our top 3 picks pan out plus 1 surprise (Maybe the OL stud) then we are well on our way to beating ANYONE. REALITY CHECK: We are the AFC Champs. Why so eager to hand that to someone else? You don't have faith in the players? The Coaches? The Front Office? Many teams have had several coaching changes. Many teams lost significant players. Many teams are aging. We didn't lose much at all and won it last year. Why not us?
Friend MiamiRon: stand corrected 2nd draft not third & Friend DOLPHINMIKE is absolutely right in his preposition on reality glad to see the optimism generated by the thread I try to curb my unbridled enthusiasm however, I must admit we've got at least a punchers' chance in this fight & I wouldn't have it any other way. I like the new smash in the mouth swagger the NewRegime has instilled in the Franchise. nobody can predict an NFL season, too much parity in the league
