I get what you're saying. Delmas is injury prone. That's a concern. However, Delmas played in this system and he played well. There are no available FA's worthwhile at this position. The low cost is an added bonus, given our cap situation. Given all of the above, what was the better option Miami neglected? Re-signing Delmas was the best case scenario at the FS position.

I get what you're saying. Now I don't know too much about college ball but I hear there are two solid NFL ready safeties and a bunch of good LBs. If the safeties are that good why not to snag one of them. Safeties usually last for years in the NFL....usually. I keep reading there will LBs left going deep into the 2nd round. Like I said, I'm not well versed on the talent pool coming in the draft, maybe someone can step in and give me the lowdown. Me personally, I want a top flight Bona fide money receiver in the first. Im so tired of doing patchwork at that position.

I never said that, wishing we had three picks in the first. But I have read that the two safeties are first round material. If they are, why not. It's a postion where we never had a superstar except maybe back in the 70s. Would be nice to have that position locked up for the next 10 years for once

So, you admit that you don't know anything about college ball but you heard somewhere that there are college safeties ready to start....and that's why its stupid to sign Delmas?

Boy, you are really trying here. I'm sorry I didn't mean to cut you down that bad before and now you're reaching for a flame war. YES! I don't know much about the college talent, BUT, if you would have read my post just before this one, instead of trying to conjure up a wise crack trying to impress your cronies, that if those safeties are first round material, why not? Meaning why not draft one. Again, let me know when Delmas plays a full season. Hell, I'd be happy to get 12 games out of him.

It was a prove it deal. Everyone knew it. ATL fans were not happy with that $ amount. We got him on the cheap.

I'm happy to have Delmas back, his play on the field speaks for itself, and we were without a doubt a better team with him, than without him.
However.....this is a major risk. I still say we need to draft a safety in the early rounds. Maybe Aikens or Thomas can take the next step, or maybe we luck out and Delmas just doesn't get hurt.

Umm yeah, I think I get that, and I applauded the move when we made it. He had an injury, a serious one but one that showed he completely recovered from when he was worked out. Delmas has MANY INJURIES over many games that he misses because of said injuries. He's NEVER healthy. Yes, sometimes you have to take a chance on someone like Grimes and Delmas. We took our chance on Delmas and lost, why make it over and over again. He's a part time player who has talent at best

According to PFF Delmas ranked 51st in the league last year among safeties who played more than 300 snaps.

He was once an intimitadator, with laser tackling and plus ball skills. He isn't that anymore.

Dolphins are paying 3.5 mil for veteran mentor and cheerleader. I really don't have a problem with that. The human aspect to the players is important. These guys aren't robots,or characters in a video game.

Fans should try to more realistic. All this hype and hoopla over a player whose best years are behind him are just a little too much.

FO better damnwell take the safety position seriously come draft day.

Signing Delmas doesn't mean they are done with the position, but I agree. Either way It's VERY good we brought him back.

Thomas was ballin' pretty well last year before the injury. Also killer on STs. Just a matter of time before he breaks out (then again I may be a little biased here...he's my favorite Dolphin).

I thought he had a good hold on the system last year and was growing in it before that weird *** injury. Love the kid.

Yeah, I doubt they will be done with the position unless they feel Aikens has something to show. I personally like both Aikens and Thomas, but not as starters. With Delmas, you kind of need his backup to be a starter as well for when the inevitable injury hits. Like I said earlier, Delmas is a solid contributor when he plays. It'll literally be a week to week watch with him. "Is this the week, he gets hurt"? Type stuff.

    I did read your post.

I'm pointing out, in vain it seems, how ignorant you are about what you're talking about. Let's recount.

Your first post on this site is saying its dumb to sign Delmas because injuries. You basically implied that anyone that agrees with that move is also dumb.

Now, let's discuss why your point is the one that is dumb.

#1. Delmas is actually a good player that dramatically improved our defense while playing.
#2. You have no idea what his deal was. So you don't how much cap we're wasting on such a "dumb move".
#3. You have no idea if this precludes us from drafting another S and letting the rook learn the ropes under Delmas.
#4. You have no idea what other FA safeties are out there that we could have signed instead.
#5. You have no idea who there is to draft or if they project to be any good, but yet, your solution is to just draft one.

There....5 simple reasons your posts have been mocked.

Supposedly the healing process is going quite a bit better than expected, which is awesome. All we can do is hope. He can be an animal but he needs to stay on the field.

I don't know, we brought back Delmas, both Aikens and Thomas have shown flashes of untapped potential. The safety position should not be what we go for in the first round.
    I believe....that yet again.....we will be drafting......

I care more about actual results than PFF results. While PFF is a good source, it shouldn't be used as the end all.

With Delmas Miami had a top 10 defense. Without Delmas it went down to the bottom 10. Delmas is better to the Dolphins than a 51st ranked safety.

PFF is useful, but it isn't an end all. Watching the game with my own two eyes, I have a really hard time believing that Delmas was the 51st best safety in the NFL last season. With two per team, that would rank him among the worst 10 starters in the league. I call BS.

No, I didn't imply anything of the sort. It was my opinion and that's all it was. That's why forums exist, to post opinions, and my opinion was to disagree with the organization. Do you work for the Fins? You must because my post struck a nerve with you.

But you, thinking..ok it's his first post decided to attack my post. You just didn't expect my reaction. Ok, you seem to think because you have 60k posts it's ok to attack a first time post and it didn't turn out as you expected. Again, it was an opinion, my opinion and that's all it was, but somehow it rustled you to the point where you had to beat your chest.

With that said, you can't play nice so why don't you ignore my future posts and I'll do the same with yours. I'll be man enough to ignore you, so why don't you man up and do the same.

and you do like to make assumptions with your points regarding my post.

I hated the Jimmy Wilson pick, and I never bought into the hype surrounding him. Wilson was absolute horrible player imo; nevertheless , PFF was somewhat kind to Jimmy. So ya, the stats are what they are but sometimes you really have to wonder.

Anyway, I would say the stats you are quoting are more about how bad Jimmy Wilson was than how good Delmas was.

    or my personal favorite

    "threw away much needed cash"

only 3.5 mil for a safety that made a night/day difference in our defense as a whole and is now 1 year more familiar with the team. All while not offering any semblance of a 'better idea' or any insight on why it's such a bad move.

    It's dumb JUST CUZ.

Some people must honestly believe that NFL FOs sit in recliners and throw darts at boards with various free agent pictures on them and go from there with their signings. There is an obvious reason this move was made. Not hard to see.

You DO realize he played 16 games in 2013 ..like...RIGHT before we signed him in 2014 .......... right???? or nah?

    Matter of fact:

    2014: 13 games played
    2013: 16 games played
    2012: 8 games played
    2011: 11 games played
    2010: 15 games played
    2009: 15 games played

Yeah that shows an injury prone player, not someone who never plays. It's NO WHERE NEAR the extent of the narrative you are pushing.

    Again:

    "It's dumb, just cause"

I think I remember reading that Detroit had a much better record when Delmas played. During his missed games due to injuries their record was much worse.
That's as good of way to measure a players effectiveness as any IMO.

Like I posted before, I support the move to bring back a veteran mentor who is an inspiration to the team. I think 3.5 mil is about 1 mil too much but that is beside the point.

The point is: Delmas will probably be injured again and maybe play half a year and he will probably be ranked even lower than 51st next year, but we won't here a peep from all those who hyped this move up as some great thing.

You venomous posters with all your personal attacks are poisoning the forum. How about dealing with the subject matter.

People are allowed to disagree with signings without resorting to personal attacks. We should be welcoming to all Dolphin fans that join this forum and not start immediate flame wars to scare them away.

I for one am happy Delmas is back, but to Harley's point, we can ill afford to lack depth at the safety position, especially when you have a lack of depth at the corner position as well. This move may backfire if the team doesn't have a contingency plan in place.

My wish list? I have been banging the drum for Eric Rowe to be drafted as a FS prospect all off season. I would also like to see the Dolphins acquire a tweener LB/S like Shaq Thompson but I wouldn't spend a high pick on a guy who would only be playing limited downs. Maybe a guy like Junior Sylvestre: http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=92990&draftyear=2015&genpos=olb

Junior was not used in coverage, but he was thought to be unusually instinctive and extremely effective in stopping the run. If he runs well at his pro day and exhibits the traits that might indicate he has potential in coverage, he may make an effective in the box safety on mostly run downs.

Like I said earlier, the obvious best choice would have been Devin MCourty for a bunch of good reasons. He has been lights out since converting to safety. Always ranked at, or near the top, year after year. If Clay would have walked there would have been cap room to compete for his services but it didn't go down that way.

Yeah, MCourty would have been a solid and nice pickup. This is the first year in a while that no one really has a feel what we pick regarding Defense or Offense. So far, management has made some good moves and decisions, I think they pick the best player available at a position we need

For the record, good signing (Delmas that is...I couldn't care less about LeMichael James). Personally I would've went after Will Hill in Baltimore but that situation would've been a bit more complicated what with having to structure the contract so that Baltimore likely wouldn't match and then potentially having to sit on our hands for 5 days while we wait and see if they matched the offer.
