Have not heard anything about him being activated Jets are #1 team in rushing and he was/is our best run stuffing linebacker Any news if he will be activated in time?
We stopped their run without Roth last time. Held Leon and T. Jones to about 90 yards (stats were inflated due to fake punt yardage as rushing yards). We don't "need" Roth. Posted via Mobile Device
actually we do ... maybe not for 'this' game, but to have a chance at the rest of the season we do. JT and JP are not going to last as full time starters for 16 games ... i just don't think we'll see Roth before next week ... giving him 2 weeks back, with the tweak of the ankle, it may not be until after NE. problem with JT and JP is that they are BOTH WOLBs ... and they both play best from the R (weak) side ... neither adapts well to the L (strong) side ... just watch the film. That's why JT wasn't our primary option in the offseason, and why the FO was counting on an improved Roth this year. i guarantee that if you were to ask the FO is they would rather have had Roth starting at SOLB this year ... the answer would be yes
Hopefully I will be proven wrong when Roth comes back...if he ever comes back. Posted via Mobile Device
I disagree Rio. I think Torbor and Krenshaw will do fine in Chowders absence. Roth coming back to where he was last year would be a HUGE shot in the strong arm for our defense. He almost single-handedly cuts the running plays in 1/2. As mentioned, neither JT or Peezy belong on the strong side. EDIT: What I meant by cutting running plays, is the options the opponent has. Roth just flat shuts down the running options to his side of the field.
I would like to have Matt Roth back for this game and the rest of the season as well. The last time we played NY, they ran off-tackle to the strong side for like six yards a carry on multiple plays. Jason was playing the strong side most of the time and it wasn't pretty. Jason's done well this year and he's in great form at the moment but I'll take Roth and add him to the mix at least. He doesn't need to start, just get him in as part of the rotation and fresh bodies. He's a bull on the strong side.
Exactly, it is not that JT is doing a terrible job on the strongside, but Roth is to run stopping what JT is to passrushing. We have a ton of talent at OLB/nickel rushing De this year and Sparano has to manage it to improve the D.
I disagree with you SO MUCH ON THIS Crowder who should be one of the top tacklers on this team is averaging just about 3.5 tackles a game...SAD...SAD Crowder has 4 missed tackles this season 0 sacks,0 forced fumbles,0 interceptions,0 passes defended ZERO FOR EVERYTHING IS CROWDER When teams pass to Crowders area QBs have a 121.5 QB rating...another quite telling stat He has been thrown at 21 times with 16 receptions...wow profootballfocus.com has Crowder rated #52 out of #53 inside linebackers...which means there are 51 better ILBs and only 1 worse as long as he is one of our ilbs this team will go no where
Taylor was dinged up with a knee for the 4th quarter last week. And Porter has had hamstring issues. You damn right we need Roth to take some snaps, because those guys are old and no longer have the young bones (and muscle) they once had for the grind of an NFL season.
Madd Matt completely SHUT DOWN the running game on his side, teams refused to run against him. JT has done very well but, he does not allow other players to move. Roth did. Although we have stopped the run without him, wait until you see us with him. Add in nailing the TE coming off the line, and the emotion he will bring. Roth was rated top ten among all outside LBs in the 3-4 last year. It was well deserved. I cannot wait to see him back. He, MOST DEFINITELY, does make a difference.
Unlike the last game, Greene for the Jets has found his stride, and we need to make sure he doesn't find it against our beloved Dolphins.
