A $20 million dollar buyout seems highly unlikely or at least I would think so. I would think you guys are stuck with him for at least another year. I have to wonder though, how do they figure $20 million as the buyout number? If he signed a 10 year deal in 2005 worth $40M and they're paying him 4 million a year, wouldn't he be owed $28 million because of seven years remaining on his deal?

I dont know. The contract has been a bit of a mystery since he signed it. I dont think any of the numbers that are floating around are confirmed, just rumors/speculation. It's possible i guess that there was a clause that they could buy out the contract for a flat rate of 20 mill, and that how many years are left dont matter.

ESPN had it confirmed at $40 million over a ten year spread, I think. I didn't think about the clause but I think you may be right on that. Either way, that's a hell of a buyout for Weis and it sucks for Notre Dame.

Funny how so many people were defending Weis after his incredibly inept coaching staff did everything in their power to hand the game to a weak Navy team coached by a young first-year HC...Now, they blow it against a team coached by the dude from Sealab (BIZARRO!)-his 10th win in four years, mind you-and everyone jumps off the bandwagon. Or throws snowballs at it (funny, if you ask me).

This is what you would call Official Rock Bottom, no? How do you watch a team of giant blue-chip recruits on the O-line play Paddy Cake for three seasons and a young QB regress down the stretch two seasons in a row, and Special Olympics teams trot out onto the field in a Clown Car, and NOT see that things are getting WORSE, not BETTER?

I feel like The Cut Off The Left Hand Killer screaming at Cartman, "DO YOU SEE?! DO YOU SEE?!" as this Horror Show unfolds on NBC week after week, Tom Hammond's Giant Dome blocking out the sun so much that Massive Hail Stones rain down upon the Soft, Candy Ass Super Recruits like Frogs and Locusts at the Apocalypse.

How does ANY administration, yet alone one at such a Tradition-Rich School, give a Fat, Arrogant, First-Year HC a 10-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION for going 5-2 in his first 7 games?

Weis is living The American Dream. Shady Business Practices to pad the resume. Sue the doctor who operates on you. Sue the people who built your mansion. Treat Underlings like dirt. Strong Arm your current employer with False Promises of a Bigger Job Offer (I bet the Giants regret sticking with Coughlin now). Collect your Millions and continue to produce a Crap Product.

Weis is The Ford CEO. Maybe ND can get the guts to finally fire his Arrogant Ass now, and he can go run the Detroit Lions further into the ground. And cut his Golden Boy QB a sweet deal on a Hummer while he's at it.

This is Beyond Bad. Nice to see all the Polyanna Apologists wise up and finally start to smell the stench that has been brewing in Ethanol-Rich South Bend. And they thought it was just Charlie's backed-up bowl...oh no. It's much worse.

16 losses in his last 25 games. 0-2 against Big Least teams this year. Losses to Syracuse, Navy, almost SDSU, Michigan State (every year), Valentine's Day Massacres against the University of Spoiled Children.

CHICAGO -- Is Charlie Weis' job as the head football coach at Notre Dame safe because of the size of his contract buyout? The Chicago Tribune cited sources Wednesday who dispute that.

The Tribune, citing multiple sources, reported that earlier reports on the size of Weis' buyout -- previously said to be as much as $10 million -- are inaccurate. The paper also said that the amount isn't enough to affect whether Notre Dame decides to part ways with Weis.

However, a person with knowledge of Weis' contract told ESPN's Joe Schad on Wednesday that the amount Notre Dame would have to pay Weis is much greater than $4 million to $5 million. The source told Schad that the buyout, which is specified in the contract, is "stupifying."

One source familiar with the contracts of Division I football coaches said the typical buyout would be Weis' base salary times the number of years remaining on his deal.

Weis' base salary from July 2006-June 2007 was $598,000, according to the Ft. Wayne (Ind.) Journal Gazette. The newspaper cited figures from Notre Dame's federal 990 tax form, which requires the school to list its five highest-paid employees.

Weis' contract likely calls for annual increases to his base salary. If that average rises to $650,000, the seven-year buyout would be about $4.5 million.

It has been reported Weis' annual compensation package is worth between $3 million-$4 million, which includes money from speaking appearances, media contracts and apparel deals. Some industry sources dispute that figure, saying Weis' total package is closer to $2 million-$2.5 million.

Whatever the case, a consensus is building among sources with ties to Notre Dame that Weis is in danger of being fired after four seasons.

"He has built zero relationships at the school," one source said. "It has been all about him and his ego."

We have no problems with what is going on at Miami, we are ahead of schedule in fact. Next year, and the year after Miami will be in the hunt for the National Championship. Can't say that about the sorry azz Notre Lamers.

Alen if he loses by more than 28 this week to U$C he is a goner. No question about it. And expect them to hire........Bill Cower, not Meyer. Meyer has it too good at Florida to leave anytime soon. Notre Dame offers nothing close to Florida, as Notre Dame is living off its past, and the future looks to be bleak.

I think he will be gone after the USC loss as well. However, I don't see Bill Cowher being there nor do I see a bleak future. While they haven't been the best team under Weis, they have been an extremely talented one in my opinion. They got top notch talent, just bad coaching and I think if they can find a guy who can actually coach them up, they'll be a good team.
