http://gov.ca.gov/proclamation/11557/ WHEREAS the lack of water has forced California farmers to abandon or leave unplanted more than 100,000 acres of agricultural land; and WHEREAS California farmers provide nearly half of the fresh fruits, nuts and vegetables consumed by Americans, and the crop losses caused by the drought will increase food prices, which will further adversely impact families and economies throughout California and beyond our borders; and WHEREAS agricultural revenue losses exceed $300 million to date and could exceed $2 billion in the coming season, with a total economic loss of nearly $3 billion in 2009; and
Pile it to the stack of more bad news. UC Regents are already scrambling to save their fatty hides which include unbelieveable perks ($30,000 for a dog pen given to UCSC's former chancellor) and salary hikes while trying to pass on the costs to students.
http://www.sandiego.gov/water/conservation/drought/droughtlevels2.shtml One of the restrictions is you can only shower once every 3 days. They say it's one of the steps to fully transform us into the social democracy employed by the French. Ok I'm kidding.
I have read many of your posts and I am sorry to say that maybe it is time to leave California for another state that has it's act together a little better then Cali. I know it is hard because 14 years ago I migrated south from Buffalo New York to Atlanta. Best move I ever made!!!!! I am concerned for you and your family and I hope you can get through. It just pisses me off when i hear about crap like this because the elected officials of both Cali and Nevada are well aware there are water issues. They have had them on going for the last 20 years and continue to do nothing about them. No reservoir's or any additional piping for water has been built for a long time. Hey here's an idea ......lets wait till it cost's trillions to build and then go damn if we just built it 2o years ago it would have only cost 20 billion. Government at it's finest
If I left it would have to be with my in laws, because the will need someone to help with my father in law. I would have moved to North Carolina where my dad lives about four years ago, but had family ties here.
Only problem right know is North Carolina is among the hardest hit by the economy because of the furniture industry being there. I'll see if I can find the chart i was looking at for you. Take care Bud!!!! I wish you the best!! Here you go Bud.....notice your area in particular http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/files/...ress_index/index.html?SITE=YAHOO&SECTION=HOME
As much as I hate some things california does (it's hard out here for a pimp ... I mean republican; not as bad in Orange County and San Diego but still!) I don't believe I can ever leave. I love San Diego. Only other places I can see myself living is maybe NYC and maybe SF, but SF only in very small doses.
You like the Big city....nothing wrong with that. Cali is a beautiful place......and is probably a great place to live....it just has it's issues with taxes and the prices and wages being driven up over the years......
