How could anyone know that? That's like saying no event happened UNTIL it was reported on. More than that, it implies NAs just decided to pick something out of the blue to be upset about, which ignores the fact the "redskins" has been a derogatory name since at least the early 1900's. Again, we're left with people being offended that some would want to do the worst thing ever....change a name of a football team.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/local...737bb8-f6ee-11e3-8aa9-dad2ec039789_story.html The US Patent office has cancelled the Redskins trademark registration, meaning that unless the ruling is overturned then Snyder and the NFL will almost certainly be forced to change the name or have no actual control over the use of their logo and brand.
They don't need a trademark! Who is going to steal the name? Long live the Redskins!! Sent from my LG-LS995 using Tapatalk
yeah, but who is going to sell it, I mean they wouldn't want to be racists! Sent from my LG-LS995 using Tapatalk
If I was Snyder and was forced to change the name, I would move the team to los Angeles! Might as well, there would be no more history with the team! Sent from my LG-LS995 using Tapatalk
Should change the name to the Washington "Don't Tread Me's" or Angels something Patriotic or Christian to make up the money with the people who love to support bigotry with money.
Why is it his responsibility to pay for something that was patented and now revoked througfh no inappropiate action by him. He did not name the team. He purchased it and now the patent office has deemed it inappropiate and revoked it. Should'nt either those who complained, the patent office, or both be forced to compensate him for his losses? Seems a little unfair to stick Synder with the bill, NO?
Oh well. Rules change all the time. Not sure what fantasy country you live in where all the rules that were made centuries ago are the only rules there are and nothing has changed, but its not here.
I never said he was being treated unfairly. Just because something changes, doesn't mean its automatically unfair. Since you're a conservative you don't understand that concept.
That sounds like an excellent idea, let's amend the legal system to make it so that people who assume liabilities can duck out of responsibility for them so long as they can claim they totally had no idea it would be an issue. Hell, even better, we can foist responsibility on to the plaintiff, if they care so much! I knew you were a sycophant for the rich, but this is really the living end my dear boy.
I'm really curious, who are you? I didn't think even Redskin fans were willing to stick up for Daniel Snyder, even outside of the naming issue. The guy is an absolute dickwad in all respects.
why bothering paying the patent office to protect your property if they are not going to protect you. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
What exactly is your argument here? Do you not understand the benefits of a trademark? Do you disagree with the idea that there should be rules regulating trademarks? I feel like your problem can be solved by a combination of googling or writing sincere letters to local Congressional representatives because this is largely impertinent.
Nobody is forcing them to change the team name. Do you really think that is happening? All thats happening is they are being prevented from trademarking a racial slur.
This is like saying a crack dealer should be compensated when his inventory is confiscated. Or a restaurant should be compensated for being shut down for health code violations. The Redskins willfully were in violation of this nation's laws. This isn't a new law. This has been on the books for decades. This is a pretty fundamental aspect of business. You do your due diligence. Dan Snyder was well aware that the team he was buying had this trademark.
I agree, plus with this age of social media activism, it was only a matter of time before Snyder had to do something about it.
Not that it has much in the way of legal importance, but Snyder bought the team in 1999. Controversy over the name of the team, and similar names had existed for decades prior to that point. Teams started dropping Native American themes from sporting teams 30+ years prior to that. If Snyder and his people were ignorant of this being a possibility before he bought the team, it is only out of negligence and reflects poorly on his skills as a business person.
That works if the team name was actually "Native Americans." "Honkies" would be more appropriate... Not to mention, much funnier!
Washington Natives. That solves it. They can keep the head dress as a picture on their helmets as well.
I still say they change the name to The Washington Komrades. Piss off a lot more people. Just go for broke. Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk
