If you don't mind me asking, can you elaborate on that? I'm not of the religion but I'm interested in this for educational purposes.
Not sure, but what I think he means is the point of Ramadan is to actually feel how the hungry feel. I am a Muslim, so I've been fasting for a while now. If I misunderstood your point, I apologize.
It would be silly if he were required to dress up in a chicken suit during daylight hours. Fasting is fine. The trouble is that he's a football player in the middle of training camp at the same time as he's required to fast. He's not the first devoutly religious person to play in the NFL, and won't be the last. Ken Hutcherson became a preacher after retiring, for example. Of course, Christianity doesn't require one to abstain from food and drink during daylight hours in the same month that coincides with NFL training camp, so hey.
yea i dont know much about this topic at all so dont credit me but it seems kind of crazy that he is going to jam pack meals in the morning and at night AND wake up in the middle of the night to have protein. Im not religious AT ALL so to me it seems silly but like the other person stated, i think there is more then just the part where he isnt supposed to be eating or drinking while the sun is up and I believe he is missing a deeper meaning. (Once again I have know idea what im talking about, its just an opinion)
They're actually allowed to break the Ramadan fast if their work is something that's physically demanding. A few muslims have told me that. If it puts your health in danger you can break the fast. So I have no idea what this guy thinks he's trying to do here.
I respect the fella for his beliefs but I also hope he doesn't hurt himself b/c of them. He's lucky he plays in Minnesota too. Imagine him in Miami, Tampa or Arizona in TC.
He did it once already last year, so he will be used to it I believe.....I give the man credit, he is true to his religion, something we don't see alot of these days unfortunately.
The point of fasting and prayer is to cleanse the body and still the mind so you can focus your mind on God. Mechanical acts of fasting while playing football seems to fly in the face of it's true intent. Much like the word "jihad" is misconstrued by the Islamic fundamentalists to mean a literal holy war, but in my opinion it means to wage a holy war against one's own lower nature.
I really don't want to turn this into a religious debate or, worse, a PoFo-type thread, but interpreting jihad to mean "go out and kill the infidels" isn't really a misinterpretation, as the Islamic expansion via conquest under Muhammed (and after his death) was jihad, a literal series of holy wars. Anyway, back to the topic. Nothing wrong with what Abdullah is doing. But for his and the Vikings' sake, he needs to be careful.
