I've been reading this over the past week and realized that nobody has shared it here yet. A Yahoo reporter followed Grier and our scouts through the entire draft for the past year and I'm enjoying it a lot for the ton of unique insights.

Here's the link to part one (all 11 parts are available at the top of the landing page)- https://yhoo.it/2FHTyX6

Edit- the link is good but some people are getting redirected to a random Yahoo landing page. If that happens to you, right click and copy the link below and then paste it in your browser.

I am working my way through the article. Here is a quote that I find interesting.

“As a younger scout, you’re more concerned with finding the next superstar,” Engroff says. “But you learn if a guy doesn’t have the makeup, the work ethic or the intelligence, it doesn’t matter how talented he is.”

So...with that in mind, how do we draft a guy like Parker? Isn't Parker's lack of work ethic ( and some would say intelligence) holding him back?

That said, I think we are learning from our mistakes. I understand we can't hold everyone to that standard throughout the entire draft, but in round 1 we should be able too. This year we have a guy in Fitzpatrick who some might call an overachiever because he has such a strong work ethic and football IQ.

On the yahoo page you're looking at article one....and the other 10 are linked right below the video. Oh, and pause the video since it doesn't relate to the articles.

Yeah, I linked the series because there are so many insights in there that we have no idea about- like the part about Fitzpatrick watching film on game day really sealing the deal on how we viewed him. Or that our 8th round kicker was on our radar for over a year by multiple scouts/coaches....who would have expected that? I found it fascinating.

As far as your question goes, it does sort of make you scratch your head on Parker. Did we not see the lack of effort because of the foot surgery maybe? Did coaches lie to us? It's tough to tell what happened there, but it really won't matter if Parker plays like a stud this season. Every year I say to myself, "this is going to be his year where everything comes together..." Let's just hope it finally does.

I updated the link up top just in case it was in the structure getting cut off. If it's not working for you, manually copy and paste the link into your browser. I think it's goofing up because of the length of the hyperlink. Dupree's link is failing for me as well.

Here it is again in a different form- https://yhoo.it/2FHTyX6
