http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/05/29/position-switch-could-save-vernon-gholston/ Ahh, spring time, plants bloom, weather turns warmer, and Vern Gholston's saga in NJ rolls along, this time though VG has been transformed into a DE in the 3-4 at 270 pds..max. Granted Bruce Smith played DE in a 3-4, however he was Bruce Smith, sooner or later the Jest will have to bite the bullet and release this guy. Err..scratch that, what a great move by Rex Ryan, Gholston is a everydown starter at DE, just play him there Rexxy, we play you week 2 and nothing frightens me more than the thought of Vern Gholston manning one of the DE slots..
They must be talking 3rd down/nickel DE for when they go to the 4-3 alignment. No way they put him at the 5 tech, my luck has NEVER been that good.
Ryan was also publicly rubbing his hands at the prospect of coaching up Gholston this time last year. He later admitted he was lying out of his second lunch about seeing huge potential in Gholston. Personally, I think they're just keeping him around to help justify not shelling out the big bucks for the "Core Four."
I would think so as well. That's where he had success in college. Then again, it would be difficult to take Jason Taylor or Calvin Pace off the field in 4-DL packages.
