USC LB Rey Maualuga scheduled to visit on Tuesday http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...b-rey-maualuga-scheduled-to-visit-on-tuesday/ http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...iami-dolphins-ted-ginn-040609,0,6064870.story
Reported 4 weeks ago: "Two USC Trojans are also coming to town; there has already been an interest in Clay Matthews, but he will be flying to Davie later this month for more interviews and tests. And he will be joined by his ILB team-mate Rey Maualuga, who says that the Dolphins, along with the Washington Redskins, have been showing the most interest in him. I believe that they will both be at the Dolphins facility on April 7th and 8th" http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/spo...log/2009/03/london_calling_draft_winds_9.html
I'm 3/4 of my way through a mock draft and personally, no. But who knows mate. Stranger things have happened and there are some on and off field issues that may see Rey fall. Plus, essentially he's a 2 down linebacker. That will hurt him also.
eh, im not sure hes a 2 down backer. i think he could easily play in passing situations, hes not great in coverage, but i also dont think hes channing crowder in coverage either.
plus I think sending him up the middle in blitz packages on third down / nickel situations is where he is at his best.
I don't think you want him anywhere near coverages on 3rd down. What you want is a safety in for him and if he DOES stay on the field, then you want him attacking downhill off the edge.
i wouldn't get all worked up over this. He can join the list of about 25 people that have visited us. Can't draft all of them! lol
He gets lost in coverage quite a bit. Doesn't always get the proper depth and loses his man in zone. He's not a guy who should be covering, rather attacking as noted earlier.
Man, that is just exactly what I was thinking, just before I read your post. He could help our pass rush maybe more than a new OLB. Inside pressure is something we need more of.
How would Jasper Brinkley have looked wearing #58 at USC last year with all that talent around him compared to Rey Rey? LOL. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bipvpIfNgJo"]YouTube - Jasper Brinkley lays wood on Tim Tebow[/ame]
If that's the case, I think I'd rather have Sintim and his instincts in the middle... with his ability to shed tackles and apply the pressure.
I think in terms of turning Rey into an OLB it is easier to teach a DE minimal coverage skills than it is a true OLB the pass rushing moves to beat a tackle. Rey is a good blitzer, but overloading blocking schemes and delayed blitzes are not the same as being an edge rusheq.
He does have a ton of range though, Rey can go sideline to sideline...he has no idea where he is going, but he can get there fast...
I think I saw him up by the peanuts/popcorn guy one time!! He reminds me of the old TV show "Greatest American Hero" ROFLMAO Rey Rey just needs to dye his hair blonde and add a red cape. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBKqwdxUH8U&feature=related"]YouTube - Greatest American Hero[/ame]
I think that was him. Wasn't he the Blue Lagoon kid? That show was horrible... but thinking of Maualuga in the clip made me laugh my butt off!! I think I'm gonna watch it again right now. LOL.
