Per Armando. http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/2008/08/chad-penningt-1.html Still no word on the signing bonus (if there is one). But it looks like the deal is realistically about $4 million per.
That's a lot better than $ 6 million a year it seemed liked it was going to be. That is way too much for Pennington.
i think $6M/year is fair for a QB of his caliber. keep in mind he was making in the neighborhood of $6M/year starting for the Jets. If we land him at a rate of $4M-ish to start AND didn't give up draft picks... we did a good job IMO. Keep in mind the Jets traded picks for Favre, are paying him $12M, and will probably only get one, maybe two years out of him. i think we came out on top, all things considered.
Sounds like a pretty good deal to me but I think we would all be happy if the Fins paid him the 11. 5 million (as he would be MVP and the Fins would win the Super Bowl).
The Jets traded a 4th round pick. If the Jets goto the SB, it turns into a 1st. And there is not a Football fan out there that would not mind giving up a 31st or 32nd pick for that payoff.
But they aren't going to the Super Bowl. Play the games, don't play the games, I don't care. They're not going. I'd be willing to put very good money on that.
