I don't see the big deal? This is the food supplied by the team. They shouldn't encourage their players to eat ****ing tacos and pizza.

Smart move Kelly, Reid's fat *** doesn't understand the concept of a prof athletes body is related to his craft..

These athletes get paid by their employer, anytime their in the building their nutrition should be completely monitored.

If I'm a coach, and you don't have good work ethic, or the intelligence to educate your self on nutrition, or the intelligence to know your body and craft are connected, you ain't comin to my team chump.

    Sorry I think it's a little ridiculous.

How about Organic taco's made by team staff (im sure they have or can afford a decent cook) or some sort of compromise.

Also these are pro athletes with their own money, they will eat what they want to eat on their own time and Kelly will NEVER know.

In three years when Kelly bombs out as an NFL coach (And I'm sorry, he will.) this will be one of those Saban like things we look back and laugh at him for.

Since most big name college head coaches do not make it when they try to make the jump, that isn't exactly some bold prediction. He may be one of the exceptions though. If he is, then we can all look back and laugh at your statement here. :)

  9. Thread title seems a bit hyperbolic considering it is discussing a menu change

Eh, what will happen is riffs will be created, Kelly is right NFLers eat a shocking amount of crappy fast food, but if that is what you do, that is what you do.

Racist humor, when not funny, is just racist. That was not shocking, controversial, clever, a witty observation, or even a stereotype being validated. I read the redskins thread so I know why you wedged it in, but come on. Don't be that guy. Unless, you are that guy. If you are that guy then, whatever. Carry on I guess.

On topic, this is what oregon does for its athletes:

I wonder how prevalent the scientific approach to the body is in the NFL, or is it more old school Neanderthal thinking?

Fair enough, he's a slob himself, so I'm not to sure he's up to par with the scientific approach to the body.

    This.

I wish I had an unalienable right to be fed junk food by my employer. Damn, it'd be even better if my employer fed me healthy food.

He's doing them a favor. The leaner, healthful food options are more expensive to the team than the junk food anyway.

It's not new, so I'd imagine it'd be fairly prevalent. I'm a mma fan, and diet is so huge in that sport that I just assume that it's ubiquitous to professional athletics. I remember Ricky back when he was great saying that he paid like a $100k for a dietician to test his blood and come up with a diet plan for him. If Oregon has individually tailored meal and supplement plans for all of it's athletes I cannot imagine that the Dolphins don't.

Then again, there has never been a booster like Phil Knight. His dollars get spent effectively. He made his billions on athletics. He keeps the Nikes, sorry I mean the Ducks, at the cutting edge of science.

Uhm, no, football players have very different nutritional needs varying on several factors.

For example, there are good reasons why OL and interior DLinemen don't look like chiseled statutes.

Fat is also padding, you are being hit by 300 pd guys then have crashes with world class sprinters you have to tackle.

One size fits all does not work in nutrition in that field.

So smart those Phil knight ducks, right down to the uniform, I'd like to hear Andy Reid's philosophies on the body and nutrition.

Dude got great athletes to come to his school by energy in a stadium and colored uniforms

He is doing much more than that. They just started building a $68 million dollar football "operations" center designed and funded by Phil Knight, and that’s just the most recent donation. I think i remember reading that it's goint to have indvidually climate controlled lockers for every player. Of course he has also given 100s of millions of dollars to cancer and heart disease research facilities at Oregon, so it's not all sports.

Yeah, the same ducks that are going to face NCAA sanction for recruiting violations for hiring a HS prospect "agent"?

Kelly pulled a Carroll and left before the sanctions are imposed.

This is relevant how? Knight hasn't done anything wrong, he and nike are the biggest recruiters for oregon, and they do things legally.

That would be "...sanctions have no relevance to any other post imo"

Kelly just another college coach dbag who ran to the NFL when it looked like he'd get into hot water at Oregon, ala Pete Carroll, who has had 6 players suspended for PED usage so far.

Before we start talking about a smart approach, the basis of that approach should be examined.

I don't have to qualify my opinion as my opinion on a message board. I asked you for relevance and all you can come up with is that kelly might have players that used peds, because carroll did and they both left college with investigations pending? That "link" changes the science behind diet? Pizza might be great for you because well, you know, sanctions...

“Yeah he did [keep an eye on what players eat],” Dion jordan told FOXSports.com at a rookie premier event in Los Angeles. “Coach Kelly is a very smart guy and he understands what it takes to get his team going. Your nutrition is a very important aspect of staying healthy. He understands that. He’s just trying to do an overall change for everybody.”

He can be my Tyrant any day...change the game by thinking for the ones who don't know how to think for themselves.
