Miller was a luxury on a team riddled with holes... on a value for value trade I'd say that Miami did get the upper hand in a great player in Miller... but we filled two needs with two young solid players. NT wont be easy to fill this off-season... Plus there are quite a few more options at TE in FA/Draft than there are at NT.
Thanks... but I actually think it's a fair trade. I mulled over it for a long time, didn't I Oakland? I took longer making my mind up than Al Davis deciding if he needs to **** or take a leak. But seriously, it's an even trade IMO... I feel that Miller, Merling and Soliai each have 2nd round value. Merling and Soliai are still young, very small cap numbers, Oak is looking on going to a 34, we have...er had... some depth along the d line and we needed a tight end who could make all the catches. Miller does need to improve on his blocking and I know Sparano will be on his *** in that department. Very nice to get that 2nd round pick, being as it's so high in the round as well and then I'm happy getting a quality back in Justin Fargas who has rushed for over a 1,000 yards, has decent hands and will fit in well with Ronnie Brown in our backfield and the wildcat. I'm happy, I think Oakland is too. Good times.
this is true, and why I took as long as I did making up my mind. Now, I had to weigh that with Paul Soliai the player as well as nose tackles in general. They are a bit like ILB's... very likely two down players only, they come off the field on third down. It's utlimately trading defense for offense and in the end we'll see what happens.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jW3PFC86UNI"]YouTube- Parents Just Don't Understand[/ame] Just because we don't understand the reason behind the trades doesn't mean the person who made them is miserable with the outcome. Otherwise they wouldn't have made the move.
Agreed... if the players weren't close to begin with, Miami grabs an early 2nd on top of it. That's a pretty bad deal for Oak-town. Oh well, you have to expect whoever the Miami owner is to get ridiculous value for Dolphins players since most players are viewed through rose colored glasses on this site.
I don't know if I agree with the consensus that "Miami won" in the Oakland trade. Sure, Zach Miller's a nice player, but Paul just sacrificed 50% of his defensive line rotation to get him. (Fargas is a throwaway and just to make the deal pretty) Nose Tackle is one of "former" GM's Jeff Ireland's six key positions, and because of that I'm not sure that Oakland didn't come out ahead. You just don't go around trading 3-4 Nose Tackles because they are hard to come by and pretty rare. Regarding Merling, I personally think he's been played out of position these first couple years and could be moved to either OLB or NT. It would be different if there were viable NT options in FA, but with the Franchising of Abrayu Franklin, I'm not sure there are any out there. That really leaves you with going after someone like Cody in the draft, and he'll likely be tough to get due to the number of 3-4 teams in this League looking for that type of player. EDIT: I didn't see the second rounder. Damn. Nevermind, this one's a clear win for Miami. Sorry Oakland.
Are you calling me a liar? Vikings don't take too kindly to folks calling us name, Pilgrim. That's it. I'm going to meet you in Jersey for the draft. Be there or be square.
I strongly disagree with that. There are a number of players that I have that have little to no trade value at all, not even close to what I feel is their objective worth. I won't name names of course.
settle down now... don't get your viking horns all in a tiffy... it doesn't matter... if I were wrong, I would admit it.
BTW, that was a nice trade by San Diego... a real nice trade. No way I would have offered close to that for Jamal Williams... as you know Skeet...
Yeah, I know. Jamal Williams is no Paul Soliai...but he'll do Perhaps the most important part of any 3-4 is a solid cog directly in the center. They dont get any better or more coggish than Jamal Williams...even after missing a season, I would pee myself silly if the Phins were to end up with him.....
Jamal Williams is one of the best NT when healthy but high salary, injuries, and age were the reasons the the Chargers let him go. Both sides got a great deal.
I hated losing Hightower, and he is a very solid back..but, with Beannie, it was a bit easier to let him go. Hightower was the reason Edge exited when he did. Many on here discounted him as being a below average back, but living in Arizona, I saw MOST of his games, and he is a very very solid RB. I hated giving up the fourth (As Skeet will attest to) but, to get an NT the Calibur of Williams, no problem. Of course, after Warner retired, and I traded away Quan and Docket, I have some Salary Wiggle room....which Brian (Whitedolphin54) and I have been working towards, just not with reckless abandon....but with a strategy in mind.
because I clearly beat you on 2/3 trades we made... Hell I may have even won the Tatupu one. Matter as fact, I did. 3/3 >>> You.
so I'm confused... you don't want to negotiate with me (I'm the Phins by the way) yet you "beat me" 3 out of 3 last year... my pm box is always open.
Trying to get any Dolphin player is pointless due to the fact that we would have to over pay by alot. Paul is using the fact that we are all Dolphin fans to his advantage.
redickelous... i traded ricky for a fourth... thought that was very fair. Was it not? and I'm not done trading... you'll see how fair I can be... oh you will see... oh say can you see...
Trading a RB who said he will only play one more year with a salary of 3.4 to a cap strapped team for a 4th pick!!!! Holy ****!!! I thought damn he must really not want whatever pictures you have of him getting out
the man just rushed for over 1,000 yards and he may say he only wants to play for another year but who the hell knows what he is really going to do? Did anyone think he was going to quit on the team back in what 2004? And it was a low four..
so what 4th rd pk would bring in 1 yr what ricky will? in that 1 yr imagine defensiing greene and williams? his 3.4 cap is 1 yr and am not cap strapped any more based on my other horrible moves lol too funny
let me ask some o you this who r so hung up stealing deals. If in real life some moves r made by ireland that you ? end up getting us champ, would u complain about what it cost? i have roethlisberger, greene and williams as my offensive backfield, a top 5 te, a solid wr in Cotchery and have fa and draft to go keep getting hung up on looking so smart, while u foresake the forest for the trees
You're doing fine brother. Don't worry about commentary, just keep on rolling with your plan and it will all work out for ya.
