Alen, I wouldnt argue that....but the fact I just traded for Big John Henderson made it easy to ship the disgruntled DT out of town.

But he is a helluva player.

I realize that Gates is a quality tight end but as long as you have teams using Cover 2 as a base coverage, which many do, you're going to have success with a tight end. Plus, with the freaks that are coming into the league at the position, I think you can replace Gates. Nose tackles don't grow on trees and Shaun Rogers is basically the ideal nose. He can do everything and play in a 1 or 2 gap IMO. Yeah he's had some motivational issues but I strongly believe that if you put him in a winning situation, which I think is present in San Diego, you're going to get him to work his *** off.

Is John going to be your nose in a 3-4? Or you moving to a 4-3? I've been picturing a move to a 4-3 for you since the beginning but I could be off.

Ithink he could be a 3-4 nose...and my LB core is forcing my hand...I think I HAVE to play a 3-4, unless I moved Roth back to DE paired C.Williams and J.Henderson as DT's, Hawk in the middle Wimbley and Scott on the outside?

Williams had quite a bit of success as a DT in GB and John could be your tall, plugging nose that ties up blocks. I would move Wimbley back to WE, find your self a SE. You're LB core would be a bit more difficult to figure out but I think you can do it. You could still run a 3-4 base look but come down as a 4-3 -- that's where Wimbley could be used well IMO. You could do many things, I just won't say it all here. :)

Yea, Bart Scott is one dimensional I think...I guess I could move AJ Hawk to an OLB in a 4-3.

You dont like Roth as a SE?

You decide on the LB's. I don't know if those are the best moves for you but think it out, draw up some diagrams and see what you get. Put your players in the best situations and see what type of defense you come up with. There's no rule that says you can only be a 3-4 or 4-3 defense. :wink2:

I like Roth as a no end. :D

Browns win because they traded for John Henderson so Rogers was expendable.

The Chargers acquired Greg Olsen. Does that make the trade equal? IMO, no.

Well actually it does. Getting the best Tight End in the league and already having one of the best DT in the league. Olson is no where near being near the top of his position. Getting Henderson made Rogers expendable.

I think the value was fair each team got what they wanted.

    Henderson is not a 3-4 nose IMO. That's a significant drop-off if you stick with a 3-4.

I think it depends on the 3-4 scheme...

Example in Pittsburgh the Ends and NT seem to just clog up blockers wich opens up avenues for the LB's...Henderson can clog the middle, maybe not force double teams as often as Rogers but can play the part IMO...

I also have no problems putting Corey Williams at one of the end positions, these guys will push the OL backwards wich is what I want.

You're right, I probably should have stated that in my post. It does depend on it, as you state. You could possibly get away with a 1 gap scheme with the similar 1 and/or 3 techniques by John Henderson. You could basically have a reduced front if you wanted and make it very similar to a 4-3, just with three down lineman.

EDIT: The post before this one was based off the idea you would still be running a 2 gap, like Mangini has been doing. That's why it came out the way it did. You're right though, you could be running something different.

Why don't you post your thoughts? I don't know if it's because of what happened a couple of days ago. If so, its' whatever. You were being a pain at the wrong time and that's about it. Move on and just post your thoughts, if you wish.

Exactly what my plan was...infact I intended on having Henderson, Williams, and Rogers down front, but in the end Rogers was too good of traid bait for me to keep that DL. But there is always the draft.

Mangini? this is the Mike Pettine defense!

Absolutely...with Scott and Hawk being free to attack, thats the style i long for, 4 LB's that can come and get you at anytime and cover the field aswell.

More I think about it maybe I shouldve kept Rogers...I love the thought of those 3 guys on the DL. But in the end I needed to get young Mark Sanchez a security blanket in Gates.

Defense is funner to build though imo...and Im not gonna stop building the front seven even though I like where it is now.

Yea, all someone has to do is look at my roster and it wont be hard to figure out who I will be drafting at 7...my needs are painfully obvious I think.

Actually think the Browns won this trade. I was able to get a first round pick last year in return for the future HOF tight end, Antonio Gates. And that was after he was coming off a sub par, injury filled couple of seasons, although he never missed a game. His numbers were definitely off... but in 2009 he had one of his best seasons ever, he's "only" 30 years old, and he is a true professional in every sense of the word. Shaun Rogers complains ALOT, is roughly the same age as Gates, and while there is no debating his ability as a nose tackle, was injured last year and the Browns rush defense actually improved once he was out for the year. It improved under his replacement, Ahtyba Rubin, whom I traded a fourth round pick for ... :hi5:

This one is a lot closer. A case could be made for either side. Evans could be solid. Greg Olson would be interesting in that offense, split out wide. Perhaps Dielman's better days are behind him, but the Rams need Oline help... badly. And last but certainly not least, Eric Weddle, one of my favorite players who isn't a Dolphin, is one of the most underrated players in the NFL. No probowls yet, but his time is coming.

Hey, all I know is that sixth round pick, 184th overall, has been traded A LOT!

I traded Gates cause he does not fit in the offense like he did in the old Chargers Offense. My Scheme is different. I wanted to get younger and Cheaper at some spots. Rogers fills a huge need and I am happy to have him.

Olsen is not a Gates but will more than get the job done. I also unloaded salary while still making my team better. Lee Evans with VJack and Rivers? WoW. I think we all came out even

Tampa Bay has filed a tampering claim against one Boik of the Indianapolis Colts. It has come to their attention that this was simply a ploy to attempt to divide their front office.

We do not want Lucky to burn in hell. We like him. Now please drop the lawsuit.
